  • Ayd Mill Road was originally built for nearby farmers to use John Ayd's water powered grist mill. (Special thanks to Donald Empson and Ramsey County Historical Society).

In the early 70s before the road was connected to 35E we drag raced on the road and road dirt bikes on the unfinished land we just called it short line

It is too bad Mike did not give credit to my article written for Ramsey County history back in 1974 about the Ayd Mill. He pretty much copied everything in my article, sometimes word for word, as well as using the photographs I found for my article. Months of research and writing on my part were just plagarized for this video! Donald Empson

      Hi Donald --
This is unrelated to the post I'm replying to, but I recognized your name and wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed your book The Street Where You Live. Very informative, so much history! Must have taken you ages to do all the research. Thanks for all the hard work.

Donald, I am a descendant of John Ayd and was wondering if I could get a copy of your research, or possibly a link where I can take a look at it. I learned of Ayd Mill from a co-worker who was from Minnesota and would like to know even more about the mill. If you are interested, I have some historical records from Hamilton County, Illinois where the Aydt's first settled before moving north to Minnesota. Wayne

@@wayneaydt9304 I am also researching the Ayd Families. At this point the two spellings are confusing to me. I am just getting started but we could possible share information? Our Ayd family owned several businesses in the West 7th area including saloons, grocery stores and shoe/boot company. The ended up moving to the Shakopee area where they still own businesses today. I am thinking that the original spelling was Aydt and while John used this spelling his children used "Ayd". Leonard, which might have been John's son I believe was given the house and mill. You can contact me at allboys5@comcast.net. Thank you
