When she performed The Joke at the music awards, she caught the attention of millions. If you havent reacted to that yet, that is the next one to do for sure!
Yes. That performance was unbelievably great.
At the Grammys
I think that's the first time I saw her perform (on tv), before that I'd only heard her do a cover of "Big River" (Johnny Cash, and it's an awesome cover of course). I still remember that moment, she totally blew me away. Instant fan. ❤️
Her music was also featured fairly regularly on Grey’s Anatomy in the earlier seasons (still maybe-don’t watch anymore). This was where I first fell in love with her.
Probably one of the best female songwriters and singers of our generation. A true artist. Glad you guys found her!

I just saw her live and she does NOT disappoint!!!!!! Her voice is just as good live. Her talent is undeniable!!!!!
What makes Brandi so amazing also is that nearly all of her and her band's songs, including this one, are recorded live to tape unlike today's usual practice of having the musicians record their parts separately and then combining them together in a master recording. It's the reason she and her band sound so incredible at their live shows.
I predict that Brad, after hearing more from this talented artist, will add her to his list of favorite singers. Other songs to check out are 'The Joke', 'Right on Time' and 'Highwomen' (with her other group).

Brandi Carlile has an awesome voice and she's a great songwriter. I love how her voice cracks when she goes up an octave at the beginning of the last chorus because it adds to the emotional impact of the song and the "realness" of her vocals. Also, I believe she doesn't use Autotune on any of her vocals, unlike the overwhelming majority of other "pop" singers.

Love Brandi. One of the best artists around and one of the best people around as well from all accounts. She was a huge part in Joni Mitchell returning to the stage this year for this first time in years & years.
In a similar Americana genre you should give Jason Isbell a listen as well. Cover Me Up or If We Were Vampires would be a good place to start.

Omg finally! I was starting to wonder if you were ever going to react to Brandi and The Twins. You should definitely check out more of her music “Raise Hell” “The Joke” (official video version) “The Eye” “Right On Time” “Wherever Is Your Heart” “Pride and Joy” “My Song” and she also does a beautiful cover of “Hallelujah” with the Seattle Symphony that you should listen to.

The first time I heard this song, I was hooked. It was the background song that was playing when the promo for the series finale of Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" aired back in 2012 and Brandi Carlile's voice spoke to my soul much like the first time I ever heard Sarah McLachlan. Great reaction as always!

This song of devotion is Carlile's biggest hit, but it's one of the few in her canon she had no part in writing. It was written by Phil Hanseroth, who along with his twin brother Tim, have been Brandi's collaborators since her first album was released in 2005. The three are from the rural Maple Valley area outside of Seattle. The twins were in a duo called The Fighting Machinists when they joined Carlile, becoming her songwriting partners and band members.
Brandi wrings a lot of emotion out of the song, as she does with many of the ones she writes. So how does she relate to the song? The same way fans relate to her compositions. "They're malleable," she told us in a 2013 interview. "They can be made to be about one's life. If it's a love song, it can very easily be interpreted as a song about someone's parents. If it's about addiction, it could very easily be interpreted as being about a divorce or death. It's relative. And that's what I love about the art of songwriting."
There is also a family connection here: Phil Hanseroth married Carlile's sister.

This song is beautiful and so is her voice. This has been on my playlist for years.
If you get the chance to see her live, do it! I got to see her in the same theater this video was filmed at (the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee). At one point in the show, she shutdown all the amps and mics and did a true, unamplified acapella set. It was incredible!

Brandi is definitely a once-in-a-decade talent! I got addicted to her performances on TH-cam after first hearing her. So many covers, too, which is unusual after making your own so popular. As many people have noted in other comments, her performance of The Joke ot the Grammys is stellar! Even if gou don't react, treat yourself. Goosebump moments are the norm with her!

Brandie Carlile along with Jason Isbell are the two most important songwriters of our time. If you liked this you'll probably like "The Mother". It's a song of the sacrifice of motherhood.
