*Comment of the Episode:* What is one big thing you like about your local zoo, and what is one thing you dislike about it? For Cincinnati, if I had to compliment one thing it would be their constant research and conservation work with small cats, apes, and hoofstock. If I had to give one major criticism... please expand that hippo exhibit... it's barely bigger than the penguin habitat. *Get Caught Up! Zoo Miami Episodes:* 1. One thing I like about Oakland Zoo is how it constantly rehabilitates condors and mountain lions and releases bison to Blackfeet tribal lands. One thing I dislike about it is how some of the exhibits lack any immersion.
If I had to say what I like about my local zoo which is probably the San Diego Zoo Safari Park one thing I love is the massive savanna’s they have which offers so much space plus the breeding programs are excellent. If I had a criticism it would be the gorilla exhibit while not terrible is way to dry and needs to be more lush for a rainforest creature. Overall another fantastic episode can’t wait for part 3!
One thing that I love about Zoo Atlanta is the Scaly Slimy reptile center. I think it’s genuinely one of the best Herpetariums in the U.S. I also love our gorilla habitat. One thing I dislike is that we are built in the middle of a city park and that makes it hard to expand the zoo. Great tour as always, Zach. Can’t wait for part 3.
San Diego Zoo- I like that it’s not too far away from where I live, and I love the diverse species there! I don’t dislike anything about it, TBH! It’s just too amazing!
What I love about my local zoo (the Memphis Zoo) is the OVER THE TOP theming of most of our exhibits, as well as at our entrance, as well as the Teton Trek exhibit, the Zambezi River exhibit, and the Herpetarium. What I don’t like about the zoo, and that the zoo could work on, is giving some more space to some of our cats in our Cat Canyon exhibit
Honestly, I feel the herpetarium needs the update more than cat country. The Crocodillians are on fake lawn grass which can lead to nasty infections that can kill or blind them and in relatively cramped spaces with a lack of proper rail guards for guest safety[Especially for little kids], and the cobra is on kitchen tile for substrate.
Zoo Atlanta. Let’s see, where do I start? I like that the exhibits are kept up to date and there is a sense of serenity on certain days. The only thing I don’t like is that we’re landlocked in a park and don’t have much room. Other than that, that’s all I can think of. Great tour of Amazon And Beyond, Zach! I can’t wait for Part 3
What I like about potter park zoo: Rare species (king vultures, pallas cats, blue tree monitors, binturongs) and mostly high quality exhibits. What I dislike: The feline and primate building
Part 2 at Amazonia of Zoo Miami! Visit the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle soon, Zak! And here are 3 zoo trivia questions for you & your girlfriend... 1) What date did Nayla the female jaguar passed away at the Woodland Park Zoo this year? 2) What year did the San Francisco Zoo welcomed Judy & Berani the 2 new Sumatran Orangutans? 3) Would you recommend the Lincoln Park Zoo to house white-cheeked gibbons in the future? One thing I liked at my local zoo is the Leaping Lemur Cafe! But the other thing that I disliked is empty exhibits!
One thing I like about my local zoo (Disney's Animal Kingdom) is that it's very immersive and it genuinely feels like you're out in the wild. On the other hand, some things I dislike about Disney's Animal Kingdom are that it's very expensive and you can't stand at the elephant, giraffe and lion habitats for as long as you like and you can only view them via safari truck, and you'll likely be waiting in line for it for several hours. It's also a "been there, done that" for me, and I'd rather explore zoos I either haven't been to in a long time, or haven't been to at all.
I have a question for you StarGiraffinum and the question is what’s your opinion on the new tropical America section that is coming to animal kingdom in 2027.
For the LA Zoo, I really love *their* newish rainforest exhibit which I think is about as good as a temperate region can do for one, and the LAIR for its great diversity. The “criticism” I have is that I miss the old aquatic exhibits. There used to be polar bears (obviously infeasible in LA’s climate without an insane investment, so probably not worth it anymore) and gray seals, and those were just awesome to see each time. I’d love to see them do something of an aquarium on the zoo campus - I know they work with Aquarium of the Pacific, but Los Angeles proper doesn’t have an aquarium of its own and the “LA Zoo and Aquarium” would have a great ring to it.
one thing i like about my local zoo (Oakland Zoo) is the California Trail. It has so much space for every animal and is just an incredible area for both guests and animals. My least favorite part would have to be that when comparing the rest of the zoo to California Trail it feels unimpressive but i am excited for all they have planned for the future
One thing I like about my local zoo (Dallas Zoo) is it's Africa area with the elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, gorillas, and other animals, one thing I dislike about is that they haven’t added anything new in a while and rely too much on the dinosaur exhibit and have it almost every year
Absolutely, they have a section with South American animals and Asian animals, but its mostly painfully average zoo exhibits with nothing special. I’d love for them to turn those areas into something like the Africa section but on a much smaller scale: immerse theming with high quality habitats
They do plan on turning some of the ZooNorth area into an Asia-themed area someday and they said that this will be the last year for the dinosaurs, so that’s something
Brookfield Zoo is my local zoo- I love the variety of animals, especially birds! If there’s one thing I dislike, it’s that they don’t have my favorite animal, puffins.
With Cincinnati, I like how they keep improving, but I kind of dislike the repeated major changes to things with the zoo. I miss the older Zoo Entrance that I grew up with
What I love about the San Diego Zoo (amongst many other things I love about it) is the scenery. Feeling like I'm actually in the location, whether it be the Lost Forest, Africa Rocks, or the plethora of aviaries, it's always nice to kind of lose yourself. My biggest criticism, and I've had this for years, is that Urban Jungle and Bear Canyon are both woefully outdated. Thankfully, I've heard that Urban Jungle is next on the list of updates for the zoo, once they finish updating the Elephant Valley in the Safari Park up north.
I like that the local zoo where I am is the St. Louis Zoo, and its absolutely wonderful! Bad part is, it's more than a few miles away from me and I can't visit as often as I wish I could.... 😭😭😭😭
What I love about my local zoo (Nashville) is how everything is big, natural and up to date, though I guess that's to be expected from one of the youngest zoos in the nation sitting on a huge plot of undeveloped land and plenty of room to grow. What I don't love is how we're lacking, at least as i'm typing this, the big, popular, crowd pleasing species like great apes, big cats and elephants. We used to have elephants years ago but they've been replaced by rhinos and I really miss them. We had probably the best elephant exhibit in the nation - spacious, naturalistic, well vegetated, but still visitor friendly to where you could easily see the elephants. But it seems to please the rhinos well. Nashville has struck me as a quality over quantity kind of zoo. But with that said, they are in the middle of a big expansion plan with the first new african exhibit, Leopard Forest, opening in the spring. Who knows, we might see elephants return in the distant future.
One thing I love about my local zoo (Beardsley Zoo) is that they have a black Amur Leopard with a bobtail. One thing I don’t love about is that they don’t have an African exhibit
One thing I like about my local zoo which is Philadelphia is the exploration trails. I love seeing the animals in the trails. One thing I dont like is the indoor spaces for mammals. Like the rare animal conservation center and primate house. I do not like the indoor spaces especially for the gorillas and orangutans.
Regarding the rather large green iguana in what we at Zoo Miami title as the 'Flooded Forest' (Aquarium) Building, he is a permanent resident of the particular habitat alongside one of our many red-footed tortoises.
The Green Iguana is actually one of the zoos animals, I too thought he was a wild individual that somehow got in, but the keeper there informed me that he was surrendered to the zoo.
One thing I like and dislike about Brookfield Zoo is the question, eh? Alright then. One thing I like about Brookfield Zoo is their current project of making outdoor exhibits for the primates of Tropic World, with the outdoor enclosures being called: Tropical Forests. I know it’s they should’ve done awhile back, but to be real as someone who lives near Chicago, the winter weather can be absolutely dreadful to deal with here. One thing I dislike about the Brookfield Zoo is how they replaced Baboon Island with a plaza. I think even before the plaza came to being, there were plenty of things for kids to get entertained with throughout the zoo. It still bugs me a bit to this day that is what we got instead. I know they just added an aviary towards the back and there are some outdoor turtle enclosures to the one side, but I expected the aviary to be a bit bigger and I was like very “eh” with the turtles. Maybe I just have very bad luck finding them there, or they happen to be off exhibit that day.
I’ve recently moved houses so it’s not my local zoo anymore, but Wrocław Zoo in Poland. I like how the historical buildings are preserved , the Afrykarium is a fantastic exhibit, and there’s lots of amazing birds and reptiles. What I don’t like is that some of the enclosures are too small, especially the bears and elephants.
Likes about the LA Zoo The bird show is amazing Dislikes the giraffe exhibit is small and a lot of exhibits need to be updated Supposedly the writers for the movie Madagascar got their inspiration from the LA Zoo because animals have tried escaping from the tiny exhibits
Toronto Zoo… love the indoor habitats, as they are super immersive for the most part. Dislike the fact that the aviaries are no longer walk through/free flight spaces
My local zoo is the Barcelona Zoo (Spain) What I like about it: It's active in lots of conservation programs and is constantly improving its exhibits; even if reforms go slowly, they even make small changes to some of the lesser enclosures to help their inhabitants be happy and healthy. What I dislike... It's in Barcelona. The city is plagued with zealous, ignorant, pig-headed zoo-haters, including politicians who keep holding the zoo back from being as great as it would be otherwise. They even wanted to shut it down and were extremely close to doing so, until the EAZA intervened! The zoo's biggest enemy is the city around it...
My local zoo is the lousivlle zoo one thing I like: the zoo has done a lot of updating in the last 2 decades and continues to do so today one thing I do not like: The africa section has not changed a ton since the zoo opened in 1969 and it needs to desperately be updated. It is in their plans but there is a lot of other things they are doing first so that is going to be a while
I really don’t have a local zoo but I used to go to the Philadelphia zoo a lot even though it’s far from where I live and one thing I liked about it was their small mammal house like I loved seeing the aardvarks Echidna, sloth and meerkat and many other little mammals but the one thing I did not like about it is right across from where the giraffe is they used to have birds like Sadle billed storks and antelope and what I don’t like is they got rid of the birds and the antelope.
One thing i Like about my local zoo is that it has kangaroos (that is one of the only zoos around me that have them) One thing I don’t like about it is that fact it’s about 1 hour away
I love everything about Nashville zoo, though the best part has to be the atmosphere they build up for their exhibits. One thing I dislike is THEY GOT RID OF THE ELEPHANT- Nah, kidding, they did what they had to.
One thing I like about Saarbrücken Zoo ist the effort to save drill`s. One thing i don`t like: ist is 90% outdated.... Hope the masterplan get`s started sonn
