    Van is quite simply one of the greatest artists to ever live. From a singing perspective I think the most amazing aspect about him is that he is "uncopyable" if that's even a word. No one would be able to perfectly duplicate a Van song the way he sings it. It just so so personal and unique - unreal. Oh, and he's also a genius :)

    • @steveullrich7737
      @steveullrich7737 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Agreed, Van's voice is so emotive and expressive; it is like another musical instrument and would be hard to duplicate all his intonations and vocal range.

      Oh, yes!! I have every studio album except one and 10 compilation and live albums. There is no one in music that can compare to him... Ever. Pure Genius and he continues to astound. Check out the two books he has published of his lyrics (poetry). They're just the tip of the iceberg, but you'll never be the same!

    "Into the Mystic" is on Van's "Moondance" (1970) album, the follow-up to his seminal "Astral Weeks" (1968). The final lyric of the song "too late to stop now" was used as the title of his 1974 double live album "It's Too Late to Stop Now" recorded over a series of shows in 1973 and featuring his eleven-piece Caledonia Soul Orchestra. In 2016 an "It's Too Late to Stop Now" box set was released that includes volumes II, III and IV of that tour along with a DVD.

    Nice reaction, Dani! Van the Man has an incredibly deep catalog. The hits are great, of course, but my fave tracks are the ones where he just closes his eyes and goes into a trance like stste and does ad lib stream of consciousness lyrics in that great celtic syle of his... Listen to the Lion, Almost Independence Day, Vanlose Stairway, In the Garden... there are a lot of them and they are spellbinding and hypnotic. I also highly recommed Astral Weeks (the song and the album).

    • @rhondaspringer5102
      @rhondaspringer5102 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am always enthralled...from Them to Where Have All The Rebels Gone. I agree with his trance like state where he becomes the music. They call it "yarragh" - a cry of the heart and soul. Even his performance of Caravan in The Last Waltz is yarragh. You hear it in with Van more than any other singer artist I have ever heard. He speaks to my very soul...

The look on your face made me cry, sent me to that place too - and I've heard this song maybe 500 times. Who knows? Through you I just heard it for the first time, and I'm moved by the experience.

  • @1nelsondj

    The elusive term you're looking for is Celtic Soul. That's Van the Man. Excellent song choice, btw, I was surprised you started with this great classic, most start with the obvious earlier AM radio hits 'Brown Eyed Girl', 'Domino' or 'Moondance' which is more soft jazz in sound. This is a very deep well, you could do a lot worse than starting with his "The Best of Van Morrison" album, you may know some of those songs. There are a couple of tunes from when he was in the group Them, including the garage band classic 'Gloria' which Patti Smith covered. He plays saxophone in addition to other instruments.
    He's released 42 solo albums in the past 54 years and shows no sign of slowing down. Critics have their favorites but mine is the 1986 "No Guru, No Method, No Teacher" which Sinead O'Connor recommend in "Rolling Stone" magazine. I listened to her and never looked back, not a bad song on it.

I won't pretend to have heard all of his albums, but I can't conceive of any that would top his second, Astral Weeks, and his third, Moondance, which includes Into the Mystic. Van Morrison has an amazing amount of great music! Modern music really pales in comparison to the best of a golden age. From the Beatles in the early 60s to the late 70s was a drug fueled race to see who could come up with something very new. Young lady, you have an exploration that will take you years to complete. You look like you would enjoy Joni Mitchell. "Help Me" is in the all time 100 greatest songs. Check her out!!!

    Van's signature growl and simple, yet great lyrics make this not a good song, but a *great* song.
    Yes, that bass line really carries it.
