Absolutely every single person involved with this is a hero to me. I saw T2 when I was 6, and it remains one of the films that most captivated my imagination as a kid. Even seeing all the specifics here of how it was done still looks _so good_ that it doesn't make the end result any less magical. It really is a testament to the hard work and ingenuity that everyone poured in to this project. Thanks for sharing such neat looks into the specifics here on the channel. It's great to see all these things and get a sense of the work behind the scenes.
Yes I still remember this movie. I was in High School at that time, and I still remember going to the video store getting a copy to watch. Fun memories.
I was young also when I saw the film. It was because I liked SF films (my mother hated them, but she loves me more, so took me to this film) and at that time in our country we didn't knew anything about age ratings (of course some films were not allowed for kids, but mainly adult films).@@sideparting6845
@@sideparting6845It was the 90s, we weren't as soft back then. I watched this, Robocop and Alien and The Thing when I was 5-10, and I turned out just fine... mostly.
Saw the film back in '93 or '94 and was blown away by the effects. I have the behind the scenes book for the film and fascinated me for years. Artwork of the SWS inside has such amazing details. Thank you to everyone who work on it.
interesting to learn effects like the blade finger had practical aspects to them as they manifest with CG. I guess that's why the effects look so good, the CG was used mainly to morph between practical elements rather than replace them.
I turn 40 this year 30 odd years ago this movie change my life never seen anything like it at the time the aesthetics and detail that went into this movie is still unmatched to this day the motorcycle chase scene will always stand out for me.
more than 30 years have passed and this movie still doesn't even look outdated. in fact, i think this movie still looks better than half of modern cgi these days.
Let's be honest, it's more than half, in fact it's closer to "all" than "half". Today, all this work is just thrown into a computer for pure CGI; a modern studio could spend 10x the budget to re-create T2 shot-for-shot with CGI (the T-1000, helicopter chase, etc.) and it would look like shit by comparison to these physical models and actual stunts.
This,.... These were the reasons why Terminator 2: Judgment Day is considered as legendary, epic and entitled for having the best CGI of all-time by most TH-cam commentors and movie viewers especially in 90's...
The sheer dedication not just to the quality of the film itself, but also The T-1000 as a unique and memorable character through the use of hardwork, practical effects, and for its time, considerably groundbreaking CGI, will never cease to be something truly marvelous. You've also got to love the strangely endearing 'designations', so to speak, given to the effects. Hehe, Pretzel Man.
This is how it should always be done. Good practical effects blended with good CGI *only* when necessary. Many films nowadays rely too heavily on CGI and look bad most of the time or just outright unbelievable. So much better when you can tell there is actually something in front of the camera in a movie. 🎥 Amazing how Terminator 2, a film from 1991, still looks far superior to many films nowadays.
Watching this and couple of other videos i realised this movie was a product of passionate individuals coming together to truly bring to life something never before seen on screen. That's why they achieved what they did 30 years ago and it can still give modern cgi in some movies a run for its money.
I can't imagine that the liquid metal effects would be done with practical these days and that's sad because just look at how well these have held up. A testament to the immense care and artistry that went into them.
This movie was AMAZING! I remember it vividly as a kid. Look at the time and effort they put into this! Incredible. 😢👏 Movies these days = All CGI now. I hate em 😡
WOW love this movei and so awesome to see all the practical effects being used. Definitely way ahead of it's time and even so compared to movies nowadays.
Despite all the incredible effects and monstrous imagery in the original two Terminator films, it is the chase sequences with a Mac-truck that really haunted my dreams. The idea of a relentless killing machine willing to go to absolutely any lengths including its own destruction in order to ensure a murder! Terrifying. The juxtaposition of Arnold and Linda and the cast of both films and the excellent score and direction as well as the incredible effects really just brought that idea home for me even more. Stan Winston School stands among the giants of the Industry. Period.
Seen the film 97-98,i was 10-11 yrs. old, since then i watched it for more than 100 times,i believe, know every line, almost every sequence, but still, even today creates something special in my mind and soul
This movie is still ahead of its time and will be relevant for decades. The reason many of us got into robotics, AI, and computer science to name a few.
Woowww ! Comment ne pas être admiratif devant autant d'ingéniosité et de créativité avec tellement d'avance sur le savoir faire 😮👏 ((Ce film m'a fait rêver à l'époque 🙏))
For the "cleave man effect”, what was done with Patrick’s real arm, behind the arm that was the appliance? Did he have to pull his shoulder back to hide his real arm? When I pause the video at 2:08, it almost looks like he might have had his arm hidden down his pant leg, but I’m not sure.
Hi Stephen! Christopher Swift sculpted a foam rubber body appliance that was vacumetalized in the center liquid metal splash area. That appliance was then pressed firmly against Robert Patrick’s body to simulate his right shoulder and side while the actor bent his real shoulder and side backward. Good it had an impact but why would your parents let you watch a 15 or 18 rated film at age 6?!?!

The effects of this movie are imprinted in my mind forever since 1991
This movie had so much love and care put into it; a high level of attention to detail. I think that's why it's such a classic.
This whole movie is a crew of geniuses who made Cinema history!
This movie was way ahead of its time. I'm glad to have lived the 90s entirely.
Way ahead of it's time?! It's time was the 90s!
Movies are crap now. All CGI garbage.
The movie today is ahead of time, because we are in 2024 and we can't do a movie if we don't use PCS CGA and green screen
Yes
Most 90s kids think that way but todays younger generation find this kind of special effects goofy.

Yep, CG was introduced as a tool to augment practical effects not to replace them entirely.
This is one of the best films in the world, we in the USSR knew a lot about artistic films!

Guys I watched Terminator 1-2 first time this week. It was amazing. Im amazed by the VFX. Im proud of you
Definitely want to see more videos like this in the future. We've been lacking since the studioADI channel ended.
These effects are why this movie still holds up 30 years later. Amazing practical effects work.

I love you guys!!! T2 is one of all time best!!!! Miss the 80's and 90's movies!
Tych efektow nic nie przebije. Kawal dobrej roboty. Terminator 2 bedzie dla mnie zawsze najlepszym filmem.
Super cool! Thanks for the share!
Genius at work. Never since or before T2 I have been so much impressed by special effects. Magnum opus of SWS!
Those guys need to be in a hall of fame! Amazing work even by todays standards no doubt. 👌

That must have been an incredible experience, very cool
Old times when Hollywood knew how to make awesome movies.
Мегафильм , достойный Нобелевской премии .
Beautiful stuff
I always thought this was done by CGI not practical effects. This make it look even more impressive.

Thanks for the great work, guys.
Le travail effectué par cette Équipe est Incroyable !! De vrais Artistes ! Merci.
Fantastic !!!
Bravo ! Bravo ! 👏

No wonder T2 it's the franchise's high Peak. 👍
Nice ! Goes to show how the movie has not aged at all, the effects are tangible and not virtual.

Amazing how much work goes on behind the scenes
I heard of someone having a splitting headache but this takes the cake
I liked how the collapsing T-1000 kept the face intact so that it didn't fall apart on its way down. A simple cinematic thing we all take for granted.
First watched on VCR.
Nothing but respect
best movie ever made

The era which doesn't have any sensational CGI. A good movie is all just base on a good story.
My respect!
I remember I went to the movies to see this when it first came out. I was shocked at the special effects!
Awesome! 🔥👍🏻🔥
I worked at Stan Winston Studios and leaving there late at night I had to walk through the area where all the monsters are ... it was scary!
This movie is still a masterpiece or should I say a timeless classic
You guys are the Goat 🐐 🙌

Funny how the word "cyber" has essentially been phased out when referring to anything online or technologically modern since the early 2000's.
