Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer... A special two-part mini episode with the Doctor, Amy and Rory in danger aboard the TARDIS.
Rory, helping the Doctor work on the TARDIS, looks up to the floor surrounding the console and becomes distracted by Amy, causing him to drop the thermal couplings he was holding. This causes the three to be stuck in a "space loop" where the TARDIS materialises inside the TARDIS.

So the Doctor came through to tell him it's the wibbly lever, yet he only knew it was the wibbly lever from his future self, so...
Who composed Beethoven's fifth?
We will never know...
He might have died in a lot of timelines to finally know which lever was wibbly. Idk.
The Doctor
Never mind that circle: Where did this bigger circle come from? (Points to a straight line tangential to the aforementioned causal loop.)
PETER CAPALDI
oh this is how it all ends. Pond flirting with herself, true love at last. Sorry Rory
Absolutely no problem at all.
Holmes killing Holmes reference?
Imagine if jack was there
The Pokemon Master and Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Ha Ha
doctor: "then what would you do"
rory opens mouth
amy "ah" slaps him
that's fucking brilliant
I can't tell what i'm thinking right now-captain Jack
Lewis Murphy I know God more of this in new episodes life would be even more perfect in Doctor who
i agree entirely with this statement
Lewis Murphy I think we all know what Rory was gonna say about having 2 Amys
@@victorpeterson3502 I think every living breathing male that had started or ever went through puberty that was watching knew too.
And that is the story of how all of time and space was nearly destroyed by Amy's skirt.
What a way to go.
worth it
That's the Universe's Ass. *Salute*
more accurately, by her lack of trousers
Actually, what is _beneath._ 😉
"Ohhh, this is how it ends. Pond flirting with herself. True love at last." Never fails to crack me up!
Rory being just fine with it 🤣
Somewhere out there, through time and space, this is happening again, and again, and again. The Doctor, Amy and Rory, all together, for all eternity...
Forever ending and forever beginning.
Just think of it as a flat line it happens once
@@KediHrsz123 no cause that amy, that amy and rory and that doctor always go into the tardis and have to end up somewhere and tell the new versions of themseleves to go into the tardis, it never ends
It's infinit in our minds but when you think, it happens just once when amy gets into the tardis it just becomes the new one it doesn't start from the beginning what makes us get complicated is that future and past are happening at the same time
@@KediHrsz123 no, but the Amy from the past was sent into the TARDIS and came out in a different point of time. They already witnessed what Amy said so they know it happened. So that Amy says her thing which makes the other Amy go back to the past to say the thing that makes the other Amy go back on time , etc, etc. They are the same Amy but from a different time. The scenario is playing out endlessly but only in a time loop. They get through it and the scenario ends, but the individual parts of the scenario play out endlessly
They managed to condense so many of the great things there is to love about this show (witty banter, high stakes threatening to unravel space and time, having no idea what anyone is saying, paradox's, Amy Pond in a skirt) in a 5 minutes 2-part short... That's impressive.
Love Arthur Darvil. He can say and express more with a look, a breath, and an eyebrow raise than the best actors out there.
Amy Pond, The Girl with Legs That Can Destroy The Universe.
Actually, in another mini episode, Clara comments on a picture of Amy that she is "Made of legs." How accurate you are.
Wilbrick Studios I noticed. I laughed. It was hysterical.
Wilbrick Studios
Never ignore a coincident! :D
I don't think it was her legs Rory was looking at.
LOL!
"THE WIBBLEY LEVER!!!"
LOL!!!
I don't know WHY I laugh so very hard at that. I just do. I think it may be because for just a split second, he sounds like a GAME SHOW HOST announcing what the contestant has won behind Door #3!! XD
logandarklighter same
Gets me every time.
logandarklighter I think it’s the way he says it so naturally and the fact that it came out of nowhere and the fact that it’s Matt Smith
I laugh a lot at it too sooooo😂😂😂😂😂
The wibbly lever
OH
And also the fact that it closes in on his face all dramatic like
The Doctor has been waiting all of his lives to do that I'm betting.
Imagine if Jack met Amy
haha briliant. This made me laugh! I'd pay money to watch that!
Madness.
giveitsixmoreyears oh boy
if jack met jack he really would flirt with himself
history buff 2345 ever watch Torchwood? He did… in a sense.
I don't know. Sometimes I believe these little mini-episodes are funnier than the hour long show. Totally enjoyable.
Well, that is because these mini-sodes for Comic Relief are ment to be funny. The normal episodes are ment to be dramatic, full of action,.... And yes, sometimes with a tiny hint of comedy. Otherwise it would turn into a comedy show.
When Amy saw herself standing there, she thought to herself..."the mirror doesn't do me justice"
just in case pond put some trousers on lmao I laughed really hard at that part
so did I
but surely some things are worth risking all causality!
I want two t-shirts: "The Wibbly Lever!" and "Lots of planets have a North!" My two favorite lines in the whole show.
So THATS how we make a good episode about Bootstrap Paradox.
Oh don't worry, Moffet really steps up his game
+The Zippy What "game"? Moffet doesn't have game, at best he's a decent FanFic writer.
Uh, does this have electric guitar intro?
calm down its for children in need gees
+The Zippy and im loving each episode he does : ) so intense
1:20 I love how she changes her stance to match the other Amy. :D

i forgot how amazing this show really is, used to watch this when i was around ten or eleven and I was OBSESSED . after a while , after matt left I lost intrest, I couldn't really let go of him since his first episode was my first episode and I was always very connected to him. But honestly, I'm going back and just reliving memories. i used to believe the doctor was real. he was just i guess an idol you could say? he was goofy, smart, quirky, crazy. a madman. a madman with a box. i missed this and boy am I glad I'm back
Rory is hilarious, he is the best part of these. "You told us to get into the police box, so we got into the police box so that's why we're here...*sighs* do I have to remember all that?
The actress that plays Amy (Karen Gillan) is so stunning it's unreal. Her eyes, her hair, her everything... is so perfect.
Definitely and if both of her wanted to flirt with ME well, that's every Christmas for the rest of all my regenerations' presents sorted.
Thank you Santa :-)
If I met myself from the past or future I'd get along because it's me!

I'd like to imagine that this is right before Melody Pond / River Song was conceived. ;-)
Maybe right after. 2 Mels and Amys. And the Tardis in herself whew my keyboard is melting.
FiXato After... she was going to mention her pregnancy to the Doctor in the first part.
Though this would be interesting, there was a scene in A Good Man Goes To War where the first time they were on board the TARDIS in the new reality was on their Wedding Night so it’s likely that they had sex and conceived her in the Time Vortex.
Melody was concieved on their wedding night
Well aren't you lot a big bunch of creeps
And that's how the Universe ALMOST got destroyed with a little peek under Amelia Pond's skirt.
hey I'm not complaining
Man I miss Matt Smith's Doctor

I miss him too🙄 he was the best doctor ever!!
The best Doctor in the history ;-;

Doctor, "Pond flirting with herself, true love at last. Oh sorry Rory"
Rory staring, "Absolutely not a problem."
I think it's funny how Rory looking up Amy's skirt caused a major paradox
THE WIBBLY LEVER!
THE BEST KIND OF LEVER!

Right next to the wobbly button, across the timey wimey switch.
"My skirt, my husband, your glass floor"
That is the best, most succinct explanation EVER on the series as to why has the shit hit the fan this time.
I love this. Lol Amy flirting with herself. Plus if Rory said that to me I would be kinda flattered.
"Baby the only way you can get hotter is if there were 2 of you"
"The Wibbly Lever!"
"THE WIBBLY LEVER!!!"
Its the day after Easter 2016. Did anyone else just scream "It has NOT been 5 years since Impossible Astronaut?!!" You did, didn't you? I know you did.
For those who watch Classic Who: In "The Invisible Enemy", Leela is cloned, and when she sees her clone for the first time she also says, "Do I really look like that?"
I wonder if this is on purpose...
The last five seconds are an extraordinary acting job on Karen's part. The range of attitudes she conveys is really impressive.
Who wouldn't want 2 Amys?!
+Chris stone A person offered 3 Amys and a Rose
+Chris stone I would so not mind :)
Yeah, an extra Amy any day.
Sorry Rory
I'm not greedy, I'll take one.
Nah, the Rose cancels out like two of the Amys
Gotta love how Rory just says "Do I have to remember all of that" after he and Amy go into the box...just another "normal" day when you run with the Doctor!
"The wibbly one!" *scoff of laughter/amusement*
pond flirting with pond true love at last lol
I keep seeing you
sorry rory...
i like to part where Amy slap rory funny moment
This is the ultimate example of why Doctor Who is the best damned show in the universe.
Dont know. First time I see something related with DW. The girl is like super hot and the time stuff is so fun, but.. why is a Time Lord (I searched in Wikipedia) so insecure and numb? I think someone with that kind of power would be far more Heroic. This seems like a new born nerd.
Gerardo Uribe I think that becomes part of his charm - that he isnt overly heroic and amazing and high and mighty. That he's still, ultimately, a nerd that just does what he does and doesn't sensationalise himself. Also the fact that his past is haunted by death - both witnessing and "causing" it - may have something to do with that insecurity,
Ow _Was._ 😞
Rory has turned on his "Perv Mode" in these episodes.
Isn't he in perv mode in every episode?
They are married so its fine...
"Pond, put some trousers on!"
One of Matt Smith's greatest lines!
"ooooeeeaaauuhhhhh this is how it all ends, Pond, flirting with herself, true love at last" that "oooeeauuhhh" ahahahahahah good stuff
"The wibbly lever!" this is the best part I splurted out laughing! xD
0:57. Like anyone *wouldn't* have that thought?
Think, there's just a loop of the doctor shouting "The Wibbly lever"
If Amy's skirt nearly ripped a hole in causality, did Leela's leather bikini cause the destruction of Gallifrey?
oxmys That is accurate. She started the War. Like a primitive Helen of Troy.
+giligara30492 she started the war? for shame
Only in my fan-fiction.
I can see why Rory is totally fine with two Amys...
Two Amy Pond - is more than universe can take it ....
+Gregoriy Savitskiy Two Amy's isn't the problem, the problem would be if they both gave 1 River!
No problem, there is 12 Doctor's you can have 13 of them
I love when he says just in case pond put some trousers on lol
For everyone proclaiming "bootstrap paradox" for the Doctor, a brief explanation on why that's wrong:
The episode demonstrates a Doctor who waits for a bit on the edge of a choice, with the episode assuming a random choice will be made after a while. Assuming the Doctor has the actual capacity to truly randomly throw a lever (or turn a knob or type a key sequence, etc.), the many worlds interpretation means that every Doctor who made the wrong choice wouldn't be able to get through the doors, while the only one who threw correctly would burst threw the door, and pop in to tell the Doctor which one it was. The Doctor has the context of the temporal difference between the external door and the internal door. So starting from the intention to enact this sort of plan, the Doctor has an explicit origin for which the rest of temporal stability to act upon.
A bootstrap paradox, is where in a person, place, thing or idea has no explicit origin within the context of the time loop. Going with the Beethoven example, there's no clear way to discern the first Beethoven or time-traveler equivalent came from without violating what is known about the time-traveler and their explicit context both in their normal life or in their experience of the past. Time (the episode) provides fairly clearly the context for the origin of the Doctor's paradox in a way a proper bootstrap paradox cannot provide without breaking the continuity of information.
Now AMY going through the door the first time, That's an actual Bootstrap Paradox.
Why was Amy mad at Rory? Isn't kind of flattering your husband would like a second you?
"Put some trousers on" That was similar to what I thought throughout season 5-6.
Lol I find the throught that Rory has when he thinks about being stuck with 2 Amy's funny
I was thinking the same thing lol
Getting stuck with ONE would not be all that awful...😉
This is fantastic, but it perfectly exemplifies Steven Moffat's greatest strength (writing people--Pond flirting with herself, etc.) and his greatest weakness (timey wimey/sci-fi stuff--he's a one-trick pony).
"Absolutely no problem at all"
This was really really good practice for understanding season 6!!!!!!
"Ah, I still don't understand..." "You still don't..."
God, I love this show. lol
@Paul Duggan - Actually - he just had to fix a list of all possible levers in his head, then start at the top and flip the first one. If it didn't work, the Doctor would go through the door, but say the next lever in the list - then repeat all the way down until he got to the lever that worked - at which point the loop would close and all would be right with the Ball of Stuff. ^_^ Vm
That doesn't make much sense because the other timelines never played out from his perspective. In actuality what you have there is a Bootstrap Paradox.
In a similar vain if you were to hand a book to your Grandmother in the past and then she were to hand it to your younger self who would then grow up and repeat the process; where did the book come from? Who wrote it? It would have no origin.
In a similar case, the knowledge for which lever was the correct one also had no origin. A Bootstrap Paradox.
Bootstraps are littered all through Doctor Who. The Master's second to last hurrah was based on torturing the Tardis into keeping such a paradox open. The information that kept Sally Sparrow alive in Blink was one, as well. I've just come to accept that when the Doctor needs a paradox to get through an episode, he has the ability to make it happen.
But in this case: the origin of the list is in his head. He pulls lever 1. He hears that it's not working, so he jumps through the door and tells himself "Not Lever 1!". So he pulls Lever 2. He hears it's not working, so he jumps through the door and says "Not Lever 2!". He pulls Lever 3, etc until he hears that the Wibbly Lever is working, so he jumps through the door and says "The Wibbly Lever!".
Now, for a human, generating that list and keeping it identical "every time" he comes to the crisis would be difficult at best and impossible at worst; but the Doctor is a Time Lord, with the whole of Time & Space running through his head at all times - I can easily imagine that he has plenty of mental processing power to keep it straight. =)
It's easier than that because the only Doctor to walk through that door will of course be the one who pulled the wibbly lever. All the others die in the implosion and can't go through that door.
Apologies for dredging this up, by the way.
And all because Amy wore that skirt...
Every now and then, I'm having a bad day and I just come right back to this.
"THE WIBBLY LEVER" I laughed so hard!
"The Cubes have over 1000 Facebook and Twitter Accounts"The Doctor: "Ugh. Twitter"
I like how you can HEAR future Amy trying to remember and repeat everything she said in her personal past as she's saying it.
so is this a good example of the bootstrap paradox?
Crazy Piano Genius
Yeah
Exactly. The Doctor only knew to pull the wibbly lever because he was told by his future self to pull the wibbly lever, and the only way said future self knew is that he was told by his future future self, and so forth. The knowledge that the wibbly lever was the lever to pull has no discernible origin, no visible point in time where the knowledge was actually worked out from scratch.
This one is rather interesting however in that the only result that can come through the door is the Doctor who pulled the wibbly lever. Any other results would have been killed in the ensuing implosion. In that regard you could technically argue that the point of origin was a stab in the dark and getting it right, then going back to tell the Doctor.
G o o g l e i t .
Too good.
Lol Amy flirts with herself!!!!!
Can I say that this might be the best episode I've ever seen? XD
I have done this using two mods for minecraft. I used a tardis from the dalek mod and the tardis from the tardis mod. I landed both of them inside the other and I managed to land the dalek mod tardis inside itself. So basically I created a triple paradox in minecraft.you can do anything in minecraft and I do mean anything. I mean if landing three tardises inside each other doesn't destroy the whole world nothing will.
So, wait. You're telling me that this major fiasco happened just cause Rory saw Amy's underwear?
Who says she wore underwear?
More like the genius was looking up her skirt while holding the important object and got distracted
i.....dont think she was wearing underwear
Well, she is a scot.

Ouch, you punched me right in the 2:16
Love Amy's little smirk at the end. This whole thing was delightfully confusing.
This would've been an amazing full 45 min episode
Yeah tbh a full-blown Bottle Episode would be really cool. Theres plenty of extra concepts you could include in a trapped-in-tardis episode.
No, I dont count "journey to the centre of the tardis" as a successful example of this.
This would be a great bottle episode actually

I love his. This is delightful, but also familiar. It reminds me of when the 4th Doctor's TARDIS and the Master's TARDIS were inside each other.
Wasn't that the 3rd's?
MrAvalerin
It was the 4th Doctor, as played by Tom Baker, near the end of his run. I believe it was the episode that introduced Tegan. By this point, the Master had already taken over the body of Nissa's father.
therealEmpyre and it happened in the 3rd doctors run.
It happen in both runs
Howyaduing
I don't remember it happening to the third Doctor, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Great! Made me LOL when the Doctor tells Amy to put on trousers!
This is too weird! The effect happens before the cause from our point but from the Amy that came through the door, it happened in the past, because her past self heard her future self say all those things, so when her past self went through the door, her past self caught up with her future self. Same with Amy and Rory, and same with the Doctor. The Doctor remembers himself say the wibbly lever, but then the problem comes when you realize that the past version of the Doctor didn't know which version to push, so how would the future Doctor know what the past Doctor knew if he didn't know which to push in the first place? The past Doctor is waiting for the future Doctor to tell him which lever to push so the past Doctor can tell the future Doctor what to tell the past Doctor. I'm getting a headache.
Also, for the record, I've had to edit that paragraph above several times before it actually made sense lol. Reading back over it again, I'm still not sure it makes sense, but hopefully you get my meaning. Cause and effect is heavy at play here.
......Oh gawd I think my brain just went for a looping rollercoaster trying to reading that. I think in the end, it was a lot of whibbly wobbly timey whimey....stuff. xD
AlchemistFire09 Yeah, it was just as hard to write, but I had fun writing it actually:)
OK, kids - this is where it get's complicated/easy. Let me explain, why in this case the causality actually works.
You see, TARDIS is a localized timespace. But timespace is also all the 11+ dimensions (according to standard model theory).
What was played in this mini episode was a sequence of events that ended well, but existentially - an infinite chain of bad endings existed. Because the TARDIS is localized, the end of the universe simply means "end of the bad timeline". And, also because of localization, the elements and causal factors involved were equally few. Thusly, the iterations of probabilities are percievably finite. Only Doctor, Amy, Rory and TARDIS participate and influence their limited universe.
How did Doctor tell himself the correct answer?
1) Doctor prepared the temporal implosion. And the last lever was the risk.
2) He went inside (to past) and told any lever he thinks is right.
- 3.1) The lever is wrong and the timeline collapses. TARDIS rips itself apart. Limited dimesion collapses. Doctor can't get inside TARDIS (to tell himself the wrong lever)
- 3.2) The lever is right and implosion unravels the entanglement.
4) The Doctor remembers himself saying the right answer, gets inside (to past).
5) TARDIS outside shell dematerializes, leaving only one surviving dimension continued.
As XXXHolic catchphrase goes: "There's no such thing as coincidence, only inevitability". And TARDIS is quantum locked to exist always, in all time and space. We saw, how bad it was, when TARDIS exploded inside the grand universe. TARDIS has no past, present or future - only always. It either exists or not. Doctor can die, TARDIS - not by current lore setting.
Klusais Eglavs Wow! That is heavy. Are you trying to say that out of all the bad endings, the one good ending played out saving the TARDIS and its occupants from certain destruction? If this is the case, then how does this explain how Amy knew what to tell herself. I know her future self remembers her past self listening to her future self say those things. (cue headache.) It just seems like there would have to be some sort of trigger event to bring that about. Perhaps, this is also where the infinite chain of events come into play as to what her future self tells her past self. I'm probably way off here in my thinking, but you be the judge of that. Love to hear more of your thoughts.
Well, it must be admited that this is a fantasy story and, especially, this particular bit is comic relief short.
It's not real life and without come creative license, there would be no interesting story (cue boring IRL). For example, nothing caused TARDIS to drift forward in time. When it was parked, it was initially in sync. And - let's not forget that the TARDIS sound is actually the brakes that are always on. Transport with locked brakes doesn't drift.
Lastly, your idea about Amy saying stuff to herself isn't wrong in and on itself. Google "infinite monkey" thought experiment.
Thought experiment goes - if you have infinite monkeys that for infinity randomly push keys on a typewriter, eventually one of those monkeys will completely randomly write a compilation of all Shakespeare works.
"No coincidence, only inevitability."
Is it weird that I actually knew what and where the Wibbly lever was before I watched this?

I thought the Tardis couldn't handle a paradox? isn't multiple pairs of the same people in the same place exactly that?..(Uuhhg. I know "Never apply logic to Who")
Logical reason: it was already determined that two same people can be in the same place if the older one already has a fixed memory of meeting itself and stuff
Moffat rules again lol.
Well you see the answer to that is very simple
