Yes it's the runt of the proverbial litter in terms of size but the features and quality, at the price point, you get every bell and whistle imaginable for $10k less than a comparably equipped anything. It might be a little better on gas too. But yes, it's a bit smaller but maybe the Bose audio system and heated steering wheel and ventilated seats will take your mind off that.
Sid the Sloth! LOL! I have a 2021 Touring model and absolutely love it- Mazda's CX 9 series are the best bang for the buck 3 row SUVs on the market Imo.
I have a 2016 Mazda with the touch screen display… I never use the touch screen. I just use the knob. I also never use the volume knob as the driver. I use my steering wheel volume and controls. The knobs seem like they’re more for passengers.
Just for a note on the touchscreen vs toggle, I have a CX5 and it does work with touchscreen in park (I think this was the 2017-2020 models) or under 5 miles an hour. I almost NEVER use it. I find the little dial to be fast and intuitive and easy to use without taking my eyes off the road. Maybe not for everyone and did take some getting used to for sure- but I wouldn’t discount this car for that, you’ll probably end up not even noticing really!
Yes! I have a CX5 too and NEVER use the touchscreen. I like the little knob. It works intuitively and fast and easy. And I do feel like I can use it without looking at the screen as much, so I kind of agree with Mazda that it’s safer. Don’t worry about the knob!
what I like about Mazda is it's engine. As a non-luxury brand, it is very sporty and it responses very well. But it is definitely not for a family with 2+ kids especially if it's a multi-6ft+ family.
The center gauge is digital. The display just looks analog. I have a Grand Touring which has the same features as this signature, minus the upgraded leather and 2nd row center console. I put a Motorola MA-1 wireless Android auto adapter in the center console, and now I just chuck my phone onto the wireless charging pad up front and I have Android auto without having to plug in. An easy upgrade for this vehicle that corrects one of its few flaws. My only downside on this car is the MPG this engine yields. It is not down on power as some say - the torque is over 300 lb ft, which is more than adequate even at this size. However, what this car is begging for is a hybrid power train preferably in the 275 HP / 325 Lb Ft combined range, returning 30+ real world mpg. I routinely get around 19-20 mpg city / 23 mpg hwy from the standard engine, which is pretty anemic. The other slight knock is the long hood. Yes it looks great but it can make maneuvering a little tougher than the otherwise very car like driving dynamics would suggest. It also misrepresents the capacity of this thing. If it had a more standard front it would probably be around 193 inches in length instead of the 199 it actually is, and that 6" difference is lost interior room compared to peers. But at 199" it just barely fits into a lot of standard American home garages. Everything else about the car is premium and a joy to live with. I honestly don't give a crap about the lack of a touchscreen, and I'm a techie guy. Most of the annoyance is with initial setup but once you have that done, and especially if you are using Android auto, it doesn't matter. Why? Because the voice commands are so good. I control all my Google maps and Spotify selections with my voice commands, so who cares about a touchscreen? It is very responsive/ works well. You just press the steering wheel button, pause for a second and ask what you want. "directions to xxx (address or something like "nearest gas station"), or "play liked songs on Spotify". It's great. Highly recommend this vehicle if you can live with the downsides above. The CX-90 will probably fix most / all of them and add more interior room, but I'm worried that the price point is going to jump a good 10-15% and some of the value proposition will go away. Right now you can get a CX-9 for considerably less than a Telluride (like 10k-15k real world with telluride markups), and it's just as if not more premium feeling, albeit smaller on the cargo space.
Just purchased a cx-9 carbon edition and I love it for the most part. A few things I have to get used to are the non digital speedometer and the fact that you can’t scroll preset radio stations from the steering wheel. I wish it had a touch screen but I do understand how it is distracting while driving. It’s just like being on a cell phone and that is illegal. It is a good bang for your buck with all luxury features it does come with.
I have a 22 carbon edition and yes you can go through your preset stations from the steering controls just need to be set up in the infotainment as well as activating the bose system as well because is defaulted to off from factory
I LOVED my 22 CX-9 (just switched to a Pathfinder). My screen was a touch screen when stopped. Biggest complaint… the damn center console opening like it does…. Who wants to open each side separately???
Love my cx9 only complaint is the power its just adequate ,gotta remember thats the only motor mazda uses in all its fleet big or small .The cx9 really needs a v6.
i have a cx9, very nice looking and drive but I want to chance for an vw atlas, better space for the kids in the back, and better cargo space whit the third row up.
Yea sure Mazda, invoke safety and and you are fine. However, what will you claim when the next gen gets the touch screen that this gen doesn;t have. Will that be unsafe then?
As a possible new parent I’m looking into getting rid of my 2013 Hyundai Sonata for a hatchback/wagon as I’m not fond of crossovers or SUVs. Would a review of an Audi A4/A6 Allroad be something you review in future? I enjoy your perspective on actual uses of vehicles from a parent view.
The prior 9 inch system would work as a touch screen while in park. In the new CX-60 the screen works as a touch screen when in CarPlay/android auto. I think the CX-50 as well
Mazda could’ve utilize the space with a much better lay out, the dashboard although nice juts out too much and the seats are wide and bulky! The wheelbase of this car is longer than majority of its competitors, so I don’t get the small trunk and 3rd row space!
Great review. You've spoken about many of the concerns and interests that my wife and I have about this vehicle. I'm sorry to pick on you Car_Mom as almost all car reviewers do it to make cars seem roomier. By car reviewers claims, you guys must be the tallest group of people on the planet! 6 minutes and 19 seconds: "I'm about 6 feet tall." No, I'm sorry, I don't believe that. Roman Mica probably is 6'2" as he claims, but Tommy isn't 6'1", Andre isn't 6'2", Alex Dykes isn't 6' when he stands the same height as his new reviewer who claims to be 5'9". I would just rather that there was a little more honesty as it detracts from the rest of the review.
She always says she’s “about” 6 feet tall. She’s said in many of her videos her exact height which is 5’11”. Within an inch or two is okay to round especially when you say “about,” “approximately,” or “almost.” More than that I feel you should say exactly the number bc 5’9” is not close to 5’ tall but far enough from 6’ that it needs specificity to give better perspective on leg and headroom.
The seats are PERforated, not PREforated. You mentioned the Mazda symbol several times and spent several minutes talking about third row comfort but you ignored the seat softness in the driver’s seat, where you will be sitting 100% of the time.

That’s true, the 2021 models and newer have a larger display is is non-touchscreen

I just traded in my 2007 Toyota Camry Le for a 2019 Cx-5 GTR and omg talk about a huge upgrade! I love my Mazda 😍😍😍
I was invested in this until i saw the trunk space. My strollers and Costco grocery won’t fit. Glad I watched the video. Onto pathfinder now
Touch screen only when using CarPlay. Also it does have a partial digital dash.
3:12 you said nothing is digital but you are wrong. Center stack is digital. It looks analog but it isn't.
The center of the gauge cluster is digital 🙂 it mimicks an analog gauge
Hello. I have the 2021 signature as well. How are you able to get who’s calling so show up on the heads up display that you mentioned..
what I like about Mazda is it's engine. As a non-luxury brand, it is very sporty and it responses very well. But it is definitely not for a family with 2+ kids especially if it's a multi-6ft+ family.

I definitely feel like this has been one of the best reviews and demonstration for the Mazda CX9. I like it!
😅😅😅, so true for the front end, cannot stop laughing.
Did you do a review on the cx5? Would love to see one!
I luv the volume nob next to where my hand rest.

The new MDX definitely took a lot of the exterior design points from this car
Should be both knob control and touch like BMW. You’ll use knob 90% of time
agreed, I honestly like the knob better than reaching up to the screen. plus no finger prints

So the touchscreen only works in apple car play and android auto when you are in park.
Great informative video that I can apply myself as a 6ft person. Although that venti you had made it feel like the your speaking at fast forward.

I love Mazdas but I hate that they don’t have vents all the way to the back. :( My main reason for changing to a diff brand
Lol the front end "looks like Sid the Sloath"😂
I work for Mazda and I’m going to definitely bring up Sid the sloth at the next meeting

I’d love to see a review I’d the Mazda CX-90!
Thanks for the little size comparison at the end! Very helpful
You have to try and get your hands on a Rivian R1S!!!! Absolute mom car of the future!
There are only 3 R1S registered and driving on the roads that are not test vehicles with manufacture plates. All three are owned by Rivian executives.
@@CMCNestT Yes, and I don’t anticipate RJ and his colleagues from the c suites will be doing a review for us.

Is it wireless apple car play
Nope

Can you do the new highlander!
You should also review a Mazda cx50

Does the HUD show fuel level? That's what my wife really needs... 😂
I love everything about this car but Mazda, just put in a touch screen.
