- Gotcha the Moluccan Cockatoo. "I Gotchu" is his favorite thing to say, amongst other phrases and his garble that I can't understand haha. Then he totally checks himself out in the camera lol!!

Our Moluccan, Rosa senses tremors and screams until they stop.She's 100 % acurrate all the time. She knows what earthquakes are and warns everyone to Get Out ! If it's night time, she adds Wake up ! She understand conversation and she will reply with an appropriate response.
Our plumber was leaving for the day and he said that he was going now. Rosa said: WTF ! He came back in and asked if he heard her right ! She asks for "Greeps, Mama !" Which is Grapes. We've done no training, she's treated like one of the family and is very protective of all of us. One son was having a breathing problem, and she kept asking "What's wrong ?" Rosa perched on top of him and it took a bit too get her off him so the EMT's could come in.
serpentarius51 Birds are amazing, I used to work with a lady whose cockatiel would mimmick the sound of a phone ringing, and then, every time, within a second the phone would ring.
verticalsmurf My son is an EMT, and he carries a pager. Rosa learned the tones and she would mimmick them. "Augusta Fire ! ! " Sending my son racing through the house to hear WHERE the call is !

I have always had lots of animals myself and they are my happiness and my life, just as my two human children are. I love them all equally and they all love us and each other equally. Oh boy, I'm feeling sentimental now and wish I had my parrot back...

There are a few cockatoo channels I like that have several boundaries in place: talking one at a time, having patient handling to offset the bird's stress, being careful about physical boundaries. It appears as tho an educated owner who has patience, firm but fair handling and basic respect for any animal one adopts is the key to their and your quality of life; I am sure the better quality the longer the life. It is great to learn from you!

Thanks for providing awareness about owning a parrot. You are absolutely correct, they are a big commitment, but every moment is a blessing. You love the good and the not so good times. I love birds too. I have a 20 years old female cockatiel and her name is Piolin and she is my baby. I lost my male cockatiel few years ago and I still miss him. I look forward every day to play with Piolin, but she is daddy's girl. If we ever live in the same town, you will be my best friend. I am so happy to know that others love birds as much as I do.

do you know why "i gotchu" is his favorite phrase? i mean parrots learn by example right?
Gotcha was the name he was given when he was born. When he was rehomed they changed his name and he was neglected and mistreated because he was very loud and he started to bite and Attack people. It was the humans fault, they didn't know how to properly care for a parrot ( he was locked up in a cage in a room along for a very long time with no love or attention). When he came to me and I rescued him I gave him his original name back be cause it was Attached to good memories from his first family that raised him
