been learning some guitar over the last year, and wanting to play songs that are unique, this song is an obvious standout. Quite haunting. cant do it justice with an acoustic =D
I was 13 years old when this record was released. There was a lot of music in my house as a kid, my father had a killer stereo and played all sorts of shit (most of it not to my taste, looking back.) When I had some spare cash I would walk to a local store and flip through their stuff. Have to admit, maybe it was the art on the cover that made me grab this, I honestly can't recall. Listening to it, though, was a monumental experience. It was almost scary to hear this loud enough (the way it should be listened to) to block out all other thoughts. It's a brilliant straight up punch in the mouth in some parts and in others a dreamy floating head trip. A musical masterpiece that sounds just as tasty over forty years later.
This was the first original album I ever had. I was 8 years old. My folks bought it for me on tape after all the guys on the street gave me copied albums; Queen, 'The Works' and 'Number of the Beast' on the b-side. Since then I was sold. My folks also got me a Philips ghettoblaster and my mates still talk about me sitting on my doorstep blasting it and randomly wearing my Number of the Beast t-shirt under my school uniform. First ever gig I went to was Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
My first album was around '81, aged 10. It was a metal compilation album called Axe Attack and featured Running Free. Released just after Metal For Muthas. If you've not heard these albums you should check them out. Classic early 80s metal sounds!

I always liked his solos on this album. Most people don't pay close attention to who plays what on any given bands record so great players like Dennis get over looked.
Everything about their first two albums, Iron Maiden - 1980 and Killers - 1981, is like way beyond awesome and better than intense. I mean like even their artwork is colorful and provocative. Rage and desperation, punk and metal coalesced into dazzling angst and radiant arrogance. Even Eddie has punk hair for this debut cover art. Iron Maiden, with Paul Dianno, Clive Burr, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray, Steve Harris, second album Killers only, beyond easily and most definitely my favorite rock band ever and how much do i actually like them? more than Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath put together, thats how much! In all seriousness, just like think about that for a minute. Such explosive elegance sonically launched and furiously unleashed, sublime rabid force, best metal album 1980s.
I'm not a huge fan of Maiden at all but I really dig those first two albums... "The number of the beast" definitely had its moments but the band had much more grit and personality with Di'anno on board and the sacking of Clive Burr was a huge mistake, to say the least. "Killers" is their masterpiece imho but this one is a close contender. Up the irons !

This album is the true spirit of Iron Maiden, all the songs are great, Strange World is the perfect ballad, Paul Dianno was the perfect vocalist, he can sing clean vocals, he can sing high notes and he can be really agressive, when i hear songs from the debut album and Killers done live by Bruce Dickinson i feel bad because the versions are really bad, this is also one of the best debut albums in heavy metal history, i saw Paul Dianno live a few times with his ever changing bands and his versions of the songs from the debut album and Killers are always close to the original ones, i also met Paul Dianno in person, he's the coolest man on earth, very far from the image of the beast, God bless Paul Dianno!!!!!!!!!!!!
the second time I saw Maiden was on the "Piece Of Mind" tour...it was weird hearing Bruce singing Paul's songs...I still can't get used to it, even to this day...
Hadnt listened to Iron Maiden in years but watching a documentary about Judas Priest and Saxon and how they influenced the likes of Maiden made me arrive here. Appreciate you uploading this great album. Very much enjoyed.
When I saw this record cover for the first time, I thought it was a punk band. I always found this Eddie with a punk face. But the punk influence is clear on this album.
❤❤❤ Cuando comenzó la historia brillante escucharlo después de 44 años y que suene así de bien, brutal los cambios de ritmos en el fantasma de la ópera, disco maestro.
I brought this album when I was at school always loved maiden Drawed the album cover for an Art project at school and won a prize thanks Eddie even the dead Are useful long live maiden 😎🤘🤘🤘🤘
I used to rip the plastic coverings off the folders we used in school and always drew Eddies on the bare cardboard underneath. I'm pretty average to poor at drawing, but I could draw these Eddies with an amazing accuracy and likeness.
I think that most people ignore the importance of this album in all this Paul vs Bruce debate and their personal opinions. This debut floats above our collective personal taste. It is not about us anymore, it is about history in the making, and we get to listen to it for free and talk about our precious feelings in the comment section. This album predicts NWOBHM, Speed/Thrash Metal, Epic/Power Metal, Prog Metal and all the sub genres that derived off the aforementioned, which is all Metal after 1980 basically, go on, do the math. Bluesy riffs and solos, prog like arrangements, harmonising guitars, dive bombing solos, weird time signatures, change of tempo, speed as punk energy, raw vocals with a high note altitude ability, and the bass, that fucking bass. It is one of these rare moments where a debut shapes the sound of a genre, acknowledging the best of the previous two decades. It could be called "The Shape Of Metal To Come", and since it is untitled let us call it this way, I do not think that Refused would have a problem with that. It is technical ability with a punk attitude, during an acid trip, in a strange world. It is a world where Rory Gallagher met a band called Free who were wearing Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Pink Floyd, and Judas Priest t/shirts, in a Sex Pistols concert. They all had a few beers, shared a few joints and talked about the future of Heavy Metal music, whether they liked it or not, and that is punk/metal as fuck. This is a monumental moment for music in general, it is above genres and styles, but most importantly it is above your personal taste, and how hard Dickinsons voice gets you.
It is so damn difficult for me to pick a favourite album from Maiden. This album is definitively in the running, but how am I supposed to pick it over the gems such as The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Fear of the Dark and so many more? That is what I love about Maiden. Each time it is a new journey for me and a new favourite album, and so it repeats. Same goes for Motorhead and Metallica for me. I am so glad I grew up when they played. If there was another time I wish I lived in it would be during Mozart and Beethoven era. But a true metalhead loves classical music as well since they are so closely connected.
I remember hearing this album when it came out in 1980 it totally blew me away British metal at it's finest I still have this album and still love to play it raw hardcore metal luv it
I just looked into this band when The writing on the wall song trended on apple music recently. I have open the doorway to many gems since then as I have listend to 8 albums in this last month alone. Excited that they are still making music and am around for the release of Senjutsu.
@@sudacagamer Statistically It’s less favored compared to other albums like Number of the Beast and Powerslave, just to name a few, so that’s basically where’s Bryan’s coming from. But yeah, it definitely is a classic, no doubt, and music to this degree is completely unmatched to present metal in my opinion. A tone nearly unrivaled by anyone.

@@patrickmurphy4297 Bruce could never match Paul’s intensity.
I saw the first UK show with Bruce, at the Rainbow in London in late '81. I was one disappointed 15 year old at the way he mangled such great songs.
Been listening to this for 45 years it never gets old.
excelente album perfeito saudades dos anos 80 e 90 IRON MAIDEN para sempre
This was best album, not only of IM, but simply of heavy metal ever.
Transylvania is my favorite Instrumental Song of alltime!
Greatest rock and roll band ever. I saw them when I was 15 . I'm 56 now,and they're just as good now.
I hear you, dude.
They are a Heavy Metal band.. FFS not a rock and roll band, Just show's that you know nothing about music types
Their best album ... BY FAR ... absolutely stunning !!!🤪
one of the best album of the world for me
I brought this album when I was at school always loved maiden
Drawed the album cover for an
Art project at school and won a prize thanks Eddie even the dead
Are useful long live maiden 😎🤘🤘🤘🤘
I used to rip the plastic coverings off the folders we used in school and always drew Eddies on the bare cardboard underneath. I'm pretty average to poor at drawing, but I could draw these Eddies with an amazing accuracy and likeness.
@@pamplemouse5 same here
I used to try really hard to draw
Eddie and I was ok at it 🤘🤘

I like other IM albums, but this is the one that I always return to. Everything is right on this album.
yeahh ...I saw the first Iron Maiden concert from this album in Zurich when I was 14 years old. Today I'm 59 years old and maiden are still on stage!
this album and sabbath’s are the best metal debut albums EVER! \m/
Perfect.
I agree, this is a Monumental Album
no issues with brucey but this and killers will always be the best 2 albums imo 🤘🤘🤘
In opinion of millions, believe me me mate.
nailed it, the truth.
😂
Just an opinion, nothing else.
@@ricardooliva4034 what was it ?
I love this era of Maiden. It was so raw and powerful, but I won't lie... I love the Dickinson era too. Up the Irons and enjoy the great music!
O melhor álbum da donzela clássico Paul Di anno cantou horrores neste álbum phantom of the opera é a prova disso
Iron Maiden is the worlds best heavy metal band in Europe & the worlds.

De categoria estrema up the iron forever best
Great yes but that is a very bold statement.
Love this album.
The one & only time I saw Kiss perform live, Munich West Germany 1980, this band opened for them. Never heard of them before that.

@JM Coulon its definitely top 3 for me and i love maiden.
I love this album. But my fave albums are the ones i grew up with.... this album. Its all gravy though 🙂👍🏻
Thats simple dude..KILLERS!
This and killers without doubt are maidens best albums.. I'd say killers is better though imo
un capolavoro assoluto nella storia del metal
proprio vero
I remember hearing this album when it came out in 1980 it totally blew me away British metal at it's finest I still have this album and still love to play it raw hardcore metal luv it
This and Killers are the best Maiden albums by far...
I agree. I never got into Dickenson Maiden.
For my tastes it's not top 5 material but both albums hit my top 10 maiden easy
@@bujindork love both dudes but paul is one of a kind and special in our hearts
What I think you mean to say is they are your favourites. Music is subjective, so there is no best.

I just looked into this band when The writing on the wall song trended on apple music recently. I have open the doorway to many gems since then as I have listend to 8 albums in this last month alone. Excited that they are still making music and am around for the release of Senjutsu.
Welcome to the club, my dude. It's always nice to see newcomers discover and enjoy this like I have.

The Classic Metal Iron Maiden!!
This album is so underated yet its timeless pure perfection, And Eddie just completes the package
it`s an absolute classic, wdym underrated, kid? hahaha
I like the whole sound in this .the way bass covers guitar IS Amazing .
The way the songs are instrumentally structured it's like prog metal 🤘
