- is a no buy right for you? 5 things to consider before going on a no buy in 2024
Hey y'all, in today's video I'm sharing my thoughts on who a no buy would be best for, or who might benefit the most, and who might not. A no buy isn't for everyone and before you jump into one there's some factors to consider. Let's talk about them in today's video!

For me… I do the challenge on a daily basis, keeping it in “real-time”. That way I can look back and say… wow! It’s been a whole week, or month since I spent out of my budget! That way I don’t disappoint myself and get all flustered. I’m middle aged, child has left the nest, and I have no debt, this is merely to build money up. I also give myself only $40 cash a week for groceries, etc… It’s trained my grocery shopping habits in a great way, bc that was my trouble area. I love no/low buy challenge videos! Great job on your videos!
That's a great idea. I'm planning a no spend month of January but now I need to think about changing my focus. ❤
thank you and good luck on your project!
I am just about to finish a low buy year, at the beginning I was a little hard on myself for "copping out" and not doing a full on no buy. I can look back now and know I made the right decision for myself. I was trying to consume sustainably and ethically, I was trying to cut back on my digital usage, I was not mentally at my best and and and... I was trying to take on too much at once. About halfway through my low buy I started implementing no buy months and am actually ending the year with a 3 month no buy! I just wasn't in a place to do that at the beginning of the year. Giving myself the grace and wiggle room of a low buy made it possible for me to get some other aspects of my life under control and to make the progress I needed for no buy periods to be possible. Progress is progress and you can be proud of yourself without being "perfect".
THIS. Congratulations on the progress you made this year. I'm so happy to hear you gave yourself the grace and compassion as you made choices throughout your year.
I like to set categories for my no buys and low buys. For 2024 a have no buy goal for clothing for myself. But I have low buy goals for the categories: home decor, household items, kids stuff, gift for husband , skincare and hair care. I also want to be very realistic so I’m planning on focusing on getting thru January first and see how I do. One important thing about doing a no/low buy is knowing “your why”
For me it’s the fact that I have curated a wardrobe that makes me really happy at this point so I don’t need anything else clothing wise right now. So the money I won’t be spending on clothing for myself I will be spending getting things we need for our new apartment, and replacing things we already use that we run out of. Good luck to all of us.
I want to do a no buy and pay off our credit card debt, but I'm going to be having a baby next year and I know that will make things very challenging. So I loved your advice on starting small, I think I'll try a month long no buy and see how I do and learn from it like you said!
that sounds wonderful and congratulation 🎉
Being a mamma to 4 kids and 3 grands...All you need is a carseat, diapers and some clothes. Babies don't like there rooms until they are 11 😅. If I had all the money I spent on all the baby things and toys...I wouldn't have struggled to pay for their college.
@@tremor_n_hawk I agree 😊 thanks for the reminder! This is my third child and I definitely don't want all the stuff that people pile in you with your first.
There are "low buys" too which may fit in, but also sounds like lots of flexibility will be essential given baby on the way!
Or figure what some areas you could stop buying...it is your own rules
That’s a some good points to consider. Probably will do a January No Buy and go from there. Thank you 😊
awesome to hear Maru!
I'm so surprised to just be finding your content now, but glad to have found it! It's more my pace than a lot of other no buy content.
i'm glad to have you here!
A newer follower and started with your Makeup pan projects. I was such a huge makeup person but realized like it simple, bought lots that I really never used. Watched the last few videos about your no buy and now want to consider a low/no buy year. Thanks for sharing with us your journey❤️
thanks for being here!
I'm planning on going on a no buy for a few months to save up for extra spending money on a trip. But as you said, I have also in general slowly worked on my relationship to money and shopping over the last few years.
I really like this approach! Wishing you the best of luck ❤️
#replay gang here. Missed the live yesterday 😅 like you said, this is a community channel and I am so happy I found you guys. Love following your move abroad journey and all that it entails. Money is definitely a huge part of it, especially for us midlife careers folks. We got this 💪🏾 Merry Christmas 🎄
very useful, thank you
Great video. Really interesting points about no buy I had never considered before. Food for thought x
Totally agree. I’ve never actually done a proper “no buy” and don’t think it would be right for me, but have really benefited from the attitudes and tips in your videos and some other no buy type content. Personally I hate having even self imposed restrictions and rail against them and obsess even more, but respond better to rationalising and thinking about the reasons behind behaviours to influence them that way. I used to watch no buy content and vicariously learnt through their suffering 😂 In some stages of life I think that more extreme approach can be really helpful but now much prefer a more balanced approach like in your current content ❤
you seem to know yourself well, which is excellent and so essential! I'm glad you chose a path that's felt right for you!
Thank you for all these videos I have been avoiding😂
This is mental health work because man it messes you up when you cant control your spending and Im talking about me ❤
I'm with you for January. ❤
I‘m doing this no buy challenge since I was a child. I’m living in eastern Europe
I love your lip stick color ❤
I'm trying a 1 year no buy...oh I'm here January 2024...I have so much of everything...
wishing you the best of luck!
I am definitely eligible for no buy😂
I'm with you
Hello just wanna ask. Can I just limit my no buy goal to be, not purchasing anymore clothes, make up and skincare, while limiting no. Of times buying coffee say to once a week?
Yes! You should do what is sustainable to you. The best no buy is the one we can stick to
@@shawnaripari thank u for ur reply! Just discovered your channel and it is very insightful! Subscribed!
Cute hairdo :)
Ideally I'd like to do a no buy but it's not realistic. I'm going to do a no buy January followed by low buy year. clothes it will be replacements /necessities only. Skincare it's only holy grails I stock up during sale. Jewellery, hair stuff & nails as joint category I'm thinking 1 item per month outside my nail base. For make up I'm thinking 1 colour make up & 1 base product per month outside Tarte Maneater mascara, Peripera blushes and PUR skin tint which I'll stock up during sales/combine shipping. I can accumulate points e.g. I likely will buy several nail polishes from my fav indie brand cause they ship from Singapore. I will buy Lunar New Year make up 🤷♀️it's gonna happen. But I do have 2 make up items for Feb so I could use the points. For Halloween & Christmas time I will want to buy some make up releases. This Halloween it was 3 palettes, a lipstick and highlighter incl Melt Nightmare before Christmas which was a personal attack. I resisted everything else including like 25 different indie palettes. Christmas Tarte and Too Faced is gonna get me. I will buy several items each and I'm OK with that. I can aim to save up points in other months especially as I'm usually meh about spring and summer releases... But I might need to give myself maybe an extra point or 2 for the holidays 🤔 If I could reduce my make up buying to 3 times a year and my fave brands I'd save a lot of money! And to me it would be perfectly fine. I don't need nor want to be minimalist or not be into make up anymore
this sounds like a good plan!
Count me in for the 31 day no buy in January🫡
