This is so helpful! I am actually just starting my journey to become a LCSW, and it just came to me that I can have a private practice after I graduate!
Hi good morning... Yay 🎉 I am so, so, so happy for you and you starting your journey to be a LCSW. Yay for impacting the lives of others. Best wishes on and towards a successful future.
I launched my private practice a few weeks ago thanks to you and your checklist! Once I decided I was going to do this, my first google search led me to you and I never looked back. THANK YOU!
Thank you for all your videos! I just started my TH-cam channel, and you have been a huge part of me gaining the courage to just go for it. One year of grad school left, lots of info to share, and even more to learn. Thank you 🙏
I plan to have my private practice up and running within 60 days. I already have clients as I’m working contract at another agency. My issue is the gap between my practice and the former practice. My clients want to stick with me. I’m excited about new beginnings but of course doing this all alone
Wow, your videos are absolutely amazing. I have been scouting out videos to help an acquaintance start her online course. I was overwhelmed in the best of ways by the "free" checklist you offer. Instead of skipping through your videos, I look forward to viewing them to get the information I need. Thank you so much.
Hi Riley, I'm also in a masters program now and have 1.5 years left and trying to start my practice, is there a way to get in touch with you for some advice? Thank you and wishing you all the best wit your journey!
Thank you so much for these tips! They’re very helpful. Thank you for your fun, caring, encouraging and generous energy. I’m sure I speak for a lot of therapists when I say that we appreciate your expertise on how to start up a private practice. One question, where could I find consent forms to create my own without going through an expensive attorney? I’d appreciate your guidance on this. I can’t wait to start my part-time telehealth private practice this year! Wishing you abundance of blessings and prosperity with much success in your private practice! 🙏🏼😊💗🥳🥂✨

Awesome, could you talk about NO surprises act? Everybody is freaking put right now about what it is, how to implement it in the paper work, etc. Thank you!
Filming a video for it today! I'll try to launch it earlier in the week than I usually do. No need to freak out though, no one will come after you and there is an expectation that we will take some time to actually roll it out and implement it in our practices. :)
Hello! I’ve been in private practice for awhile and I have 2 therapists that work for me. I got lucky with them as they could both start and grow slowly as I got them referrals instead of me having a full caseload already for them. My question is, what is the best way to bring on a new therapist when you don’t have a full caseload for them? I don’t put people on waiting lists simply because I believe that when a client calls for counseling, they need counseling fairly soon. I always offer to hold onto their name or give them other names and numbers of practices in the town. So I get into this dilemma where I can’t hire a new therapist because I don’t have a full caseload and then I can’t build a full caseload when I don’t have a therapist to take it on. What’s the best way to grow? I’ve not had anyone explain it to me besides the method of therapists taking on way too many clients and then transitioning them to a new therapist once one is found and hired. To me, that is poor practice as that client has already built a therapeutic relationship with that initial therapist and handing them off to someone else just seems wrong. I’d love some advice on this!! Thanks!
Could you also cover on how to hire the therapists when you start to have your own therapsit business ? My friend just hiring three therapist to his office, but he wasn’t sure if he needs to hire additional two therapists.
This is so validating. I’m in the process of opening my part time PP within the next few weeks. Those roadblocks are a b**** haha! Do you have videos on first consultation, intake forms, first session?
I do! :) First call: th-cam.com/video/HfpcuoNtO8Q/w-d-xo.html Intake form: th-cam.com/video/a3F_idw4aVw/w-d-xo.html First session: th-cam.com/video/pzBMWQH-8wQ/w-d-xo.html I also offer a PDF ebook with all the initial first points of contact streamlined if you're interested: privatepracticeskills.teachable.com/p/from-undecided-to-booked And the Private Practice Startup has a whole paperwork package. Thank you for acknowledging the "take your time" and "lean on your support" tips. I was starting my PP before my 9/21 wedding and now I'm in my second trimester of pregnancy and wonder and I'm feeling anxious and self-doubt that it's too late to launch since I'll be obviously taking time off after having my baby. Any tips or insight into if it's too late?
I just saw this video and downloaded your checklist. I started my private practice a few months ago and I am feeling overwhelmed with marketing/promoting. I have a website and I am working boosting SEO. I don't know if I need business cards and/or flyers. I just don't know where to invest my energy at this point. I appreciate any and all feedback or questions.
This was extremely helpful! The checklist is so thorough!!! I love your tone as well. I am a part of a very small group practice/nonprofit in Louisiana (many barriers/struggles-the past 3 years major hurricanes and severe weather in addition to covid, that caused SO much)and I want to work toward establishing/maintaining my autonomy, even while being contracted with the group practice. I am struggling with some doubt/confidence and my support is very limited (trying to work on it but it seems that I get more support out of my particular area) Any tips?
HI Oshe! I am in SWLA and am beginning my solo private practice journey. I would love to talk about private practice/contracting work etc. if you're interested.
I have a successful private practice but wanted to know if you had any information on pay scales, particularly percentage vs hourly wage. PIP and coaching models, etc.
Thank you very much for the tips..Really gave me a better perspective. ...One of the main challenges which I faced was definitely the lack of a support system.. Now that I have identified it, I will be able to navigate through it better. . Thanks a ton
Ugh! I'm stuck at step 1--finding a buddy (few buddies). Feeling pretty down and frustrated about it to be honest. In your video, you seemed as if you were going to advise how to get buddies but got sidetracked by something. Your checklist is great and I have reviewed it. I'm just waiting to find a little moral support :(
I had a whole segment on it and I cut it because the video ran long! It can be hard to find buddies. I would see if there is a local facebook group of therapists and put a post there looking for other folks in a relatively similar phase as you. Or see if those folks know of other therapists who can be part of your supports. Best wishes to you!
How viable is it to start a private practice right after getting your masters but before you are licensed? I would love to do it, but I am worried it would be hard
