Agreed, especially if it has a section talking about some of the new an old instant cameras
Honestly my biggest takeaway is the idea of "Are you $20 beautiful or $2 beautiful", it's a good way to look into both making sure you don't go overboard and spend all your exposures on one subject but ALSO giving yourself that latitude to live a little and not horde your precious shots. Set a budget for the subject so you already know you're going to do multiple shots and you stop being hesitant about taking another shot.

This dude is pretentious in the most gorgeous way possible. And I really mean that as a sincere compliment from the countercultured perspective. So much lovely advice has come from this 7 minute video that I will keep with me for the rest of my life. I came here for Neon sx70 tips, I now leave with the quintessential question for any upcoming photoshoot : is the shot 2 dollars beautiful or is it 20 dollars beautiful?

@@InAnInstant awe man, im humbly embarrassed now. I really could have used a better word than pretentious. What I really mean is that he is a conisseur of his own personal hobbies and profession. And I am also quite jealous of his collection as I finally have gotten back into the polaroid world and could finally afford a model one sx70.

I just started shooting instant film and I have become absolutely obsessed! Seeing your videos just feeds my love for photography even more and I've fallen involve with the beauty of trial and error and never knowing exactly what you're going to get!
What a great guest who so well embodies what make this channel an unmitigated joy. Bret has that same neat mix of information and enthusiasm that’s so uplifting. And we live at a time when anything that lifts you is a priceless gem. Whenever I open TH-cam and see a new video waiting it makes for an instant smile and then watching makes my day that bit brighter.

Okay, this was awesome. Bret is great on camera, and this is an awesome guide. The sunset shot in the thumbnail has an amazing mood, and it's kinda crazy how the best composed shot IMO is the one on the camera he didn't know how to shoot.

Great vid, what a collab! Can we talk more about shooting through filters and what not? Watching this, I get a itch in the back of my brain, probably something from top model of ye old, about shooting from half smudged glass to get more light in frame, filling out the dark parts. Very cool video! How do you set the light compensation dial for neon shots on the SX-70? Do you dial it for more exposure? Mine is not 600 modified so a tripod is a must. thanks! @myeyesmypolaroid
When it comes to the sx70 I tend to only shoot neon at dusk or on tripod. Dialing up the brightness can tend to cause too long of an exposure which can lead to blurry polaroid.

Great video ! Do you recommend a tripod also for low light shots?
Most definitely, for neon it’s not 100% crucial because for the most part you’re exposing for the light of the sign which will be an adequate shutter speed handheld. Slower shutter speeds will come into play without light sources as bright as neon, at which point you’ll definitely need a tripod.
@@InAnInstant will the fact I will be using my MiNT Slr670s change anything? Generally in auto mode it’s infallible 😎
It wouldn’t change anything, no! All about the metering, and in auto all versions of the SLR cameras should treat neon similarly (exposing for the brightness of it, if it takes up a significant area of the frame):

If you were to use a Polaroid gen 2, what would be the best exposure level for it when taking neon photos? like at the highest level mid level or lowest?

I missed the part talking about the lighting dial for non Mint Polaroid cameras 🤔
Try and get as close to the neon as possible, the automatic light meters on the SLRs will tend to meter for the neon which is what you want. Worst case it slightly overexposes and you can dial down exposure compensation -.5.
