- Darksiders 2 review. www.ClassicGame... Classic Game Room reviews DARKSIDERS II for Xbox 360 (also available for PlayStation 3 PS3 and PC) from Vigil Games and THQ. This massive action adventure game rocks with superb visuals, art direction, acting, music and good, predictable action. Hack, slash, mangle and explore your way through numerous well designed environments as you embark on an epic adventure that seems to be inspired by The Legend of Zelda games and The Lord of the Rings. CGR Darksiders 2 review has gameplay from the Xbox 360 version of Darksiders II where you can see Death exploring the brilliant environments and landscape on his gallant steed, Knight Rider (I renamed him in my head). Death collects tons of weapons, armor and unlocks new abilities, some weapons can even be named like my Sharpsu 3000 which slices enemies like a Vectrex controller through Moon Wolves.
Take one part God of War, mix with 1 part Soul Reaver and 1 part Legend of Zelda and you get Darksiders.
that's exactly my thoughts about it
+Diablo loot
& PoP
Lord Carnage is awesome. His positivity is such a nice break from the typically bitchy reviewers of bigger gaming channels.
I agree. I love his "so I liked halo ODST. Fucking sue me" attitude. He just says if a game is fun or not and doesn't bother with a trivial numerical rating
Darksiders is the mature Zelda game we've always wanted.
Pfft, The Adventure of Link. Master that game, and we'll talk.

There you go... The Zelda FANBOY has spoken!
You are truly the best game reviewer of allllllllllllllll time. Get this man a TV deal.
Bring Back CLASSIC GAME ROOM ! Just picked this up yesterday. Good to see a review up here.
You earned my subscribe. Much more energetic than most game reviewers.
Loved this game so much, its one of my favorites. I just wish the earth section and the ending were way better then they were. DLC was amazing too, 8/10
Loving the longer reviews CGR, especially this one!! :)
The art style in this game is so cool, makes me wish I had a bigger tv to watch it on!
It's really a shame Darksiders 2 couldn't save THQ from failing :(
Your excitement for this game has me putting some serious ponder time into picking up a copy.
I just picked the game up and even after 10 mins into it I LOVE IT. great review really fun game
best and most accurate review i've watched, keep it up CGR!
0:45 k u got me to buy it XD but im still going to watch the rest of the review
Dude I watch your video reviews all the Time! I find your game reviews to be the best I everything you say and when I try it I love every bit of it, and it's because of the words you say man. Keep reviewing! You're hilarious and informative!
This game reminds me of God of war (combat) + Devil May Cry...awesome game!!!!!!
I love this fantastic, amazing piece of heaven!
The main character in this game looks like a World of WarCraft character..
The music in this game can be so beautiful. Really stood out to me while playing.
THQ, you will always have a special place in our hearts. R.I.P
Now this is an amazing review.
I will never tire of the Classic Game Room opening jingle, whoever made it i give you 37 high fives.
Literally has the best voice ever
Meets xenoblade chronicles, meets skyrim, meets devil may cry, meets castlevania, and found a record of the best orchestra songs ever and decided to listen to it.
This really was an excellent video review. I prooooobably wasn't going to pick up Darksiders 2.. But now, having seen how absolutely passionate you are about the game - it's definitely on my must-buy list. I just hope I enjoy it as much as you did!
this one felt like the old CGR reviews.... about time.... GJ Mark.
"Darksiders 2 is not a good game" awww :( " it's ****ing amazing!" YEAS! :D
You have the best intro song. You rock, buddy!
Love the ESB 2600 nod at the front-end of the video.
Over the years I've been slowly rebuilding my long-lost Star Wars collection from the late '70s via eBay. Books, records, figures, the works. It's all stuff from the original '77 release, as that had the most impact on me as a kid.
The ONLY thing that's not from A New Hope is Atari 2600 Empire Strikes Back.
Why? Because it's the first Star Wars game ever made! Man I loved that thing.
Great review, btw.
Is it worth getting the first one, or is this such an improvement it makes the original obsolete.
Bats playing one is as fun as this , considering 1 is more difficult in puzzles and kind of linear ,
if u want to compare 1 has more touch with god of war , 2 has more touch with open world zelda ,
Both Darksiders are equally awesome .
but 1 is my favourite dunno why...
BEST REVIEW SITE IN THE WORLD love the guy talking, always liked his reviews. Game bought, thank you !
The first Darksiders was great. It had an identity crisis, but that worked in its favor somehow making a name for itself. DSII loos to go above and beyond everything the first has and be one of those rare sequels that isn't just more awesomeness, but builds upon that awesomeness.
I can't wait to give this a go. Especially love how well realized one of my favorite comic book artist's art comes to life in this series.
I like it when you review retro games but you give the best input into the new titles as well. This game looks like a must buy!
I think darksider 2 is the best game I ever play, the original darksiders was very good as well .........I whish they would make darksiders 3 and on
good news children darksider 3 will come in 2018 and you'll play as Fury. Death and War's sister.
Is it me or has Classic Game Room gotten funnier with each subsequent review. Mark has such an amazing sense of humor. If you need more proof, watch his AT-AT toy review or his Ridge Racer 7 review.
The art style is definitely influenced by kain. Death looks so much like Kain. probaly those guys grew up with the game, just like us.
One of my favorite games of all time!!! Sooooooo good!! The first one is amazing as well!
luv DS2 but I liked WAR's character a little more than DEATH. He's still awesome though
The original Darksiders was a huge and enthralling game with great combat and exploration. For me, this series is a reboot of the style of gameplay which Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver started in 1999 on the original Playstation. The exploration is so similar one would be mistaken for assuming it was Soul Reaver 3, and since that is virtually guaranteed to never happen the Darksiders series will have to do.
Loved this game from start to finish. Only encountered one glitch in the whole thing and whilst I thought it was a game breaker it actually had a rather simple fix so I'm very happy with this purchase.
In these past 12-15 years I've played video games, I've become addicted solely to playing online games. Mainly to show off my skills in shooters or show off how beef my character is in MMORPG (or D2-D3). I have rarely discovered the point of playing single player games, besides Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, and Darksiders.
This game, though single player, is insanely addictive and just flat out fun. Sometimes the dungeons will drive you mad, but it's worth it.
TIPS: save all the blue and purple items, dont sell it, save money and vargul coins, buy a possessed item form the devil vendor, it's randomly generated, cost 50k and 20 coins, use all the magic items and sacrifice it on the possessed item, it's gonna need A LOT to max our a possessed weapon, after you max out, it's one of the best item, and it makes everything stupidly easy. 2nd tip: see water, jump in and swim down, you'll find all the secret chests, and paths, same things for holes.
Chopsticks he listed the reasons he loved it, the music, the art style, smooth button mashing action, fluid, the character being very likeable and it goes on, next time you should listen but I do agree that he should maybe outline the negatives too
I didn't find Skyrim's dungeons repetitive. In fact, there is a great leap between Oblivion and Skyim in Cave and Dungeon design. I think each and every one of them had very different things the only feature that related one another was that there was no variation of objects whatsoever, but the game world is huge.
I know. I just have a discussion with fans of Darksiders 1. Some may not enjoy it, because it changes from a hack-and-slash to a RPG kinda game. As an RPG person, I liked it.
He looks like a mix between Raziel and Jackie Estacado
I love this guy. Even if it's a crappy game like Damnation, he always finds some positives instead of just mindlessly bashing it. God bless CGR!
Yes, it's great to have reviews from someone who clearly enjoys games, and doesn't feel the need to be a hipster by tearing everything apart - like almost all other reviewers do (including that CGR Undertow lamer).
His show gained popularity for the obvious reasons... 1) He is funny and amusing to listen to. 2) He reviews games from all time periods and all consoles. 3) He rarely criticizes games. Which is the main reason why people like this show, their hopes are not ruined. They're hearing what they want to hear. Because of this, they'll defend him and his show regardless of what (logic) should tell them about what a (review) should be. Yes, some reviewers go too in depth. But, these reviews are vague.
Excellent. I trust Mark's reviews and now will wait for nearest sale of this game and buy it. Most importantly it looks like it runs very smoothly.
actually, the developers of the game mentioned that they were not trying to get high ratings from critics, they wanted to make a game by gamers for gamers
This guy here is worth all IGN's editors combined... Mark is the main reason why I think professional reviewers are, and always will, biased. You can't trust anything they say, there are too many other factors that influence the game's score. IE, opinions are personal. That's a fact. Something that might look repetitive and lame for someone, is a gem of uniqueness and beauty for someone else. So a single review made by a single individual is, imo, not enough. It should be a collective of scores
1:24 i heard that song at apple bees today and i thought i was going to see mark walking through the door lol, i wouldnt be surprised if that song played by default every time he entered a building
I have seen the first one but i didn't really wanted to buy it it was a stupid decision? this looks (obviously) better but do you recommend getting both?
Loved the review!! . Mark is a top shelf professional. He reviews everything at face value. The enjoyment you'll get out of the game.... Mark is the opposite of pretentious. Which is why I will always value his opinions on games.....
I love Mark's reviews because he asks one simple question: is this game fun to play? If the answers yes, then he asks 'how much fun'. At the end of the day that's all I'm interested in. Most other sites spend all their time criticising the art work of the title screen, and comparing every game to the multi million pound production values of COD, Dirt, Assassins Creed etc, and if the game doesn't match them in glamour and flashing lights then they rate them as mediocre games.
Your Darksiders 3 description sounds like an amazing game, lol.
Hey, Mark! Disney Pittsburgh is developing some sort of crazy technology (Let's call it magic), which they call Botanicus Interacticus, which involves turning living and artificial plants into multitouch interfaces. Seeing as it might be a future option for interacting with games, maybe you should check it out? There's a video up here on youtube about it if you search for Botanicus Interacticus. Please vote this up so Mark can see it!
on my psn store it says 10$ for a full digital download of this game, sth wrong with the price tag or did I miss sth?
What is the themesong CGR uses? I love it!
Random, but I loved Strange Days. Thanks for name dropping it!
OH MY GOD IT JUST CAME TO ME. Michael Wincott was the fucking Prophet of Truth in Halo 2! DOUBLE GODDAMN SOLD!
very reminiscent of KOA: Reckoning in art style (albeit fewer bloom effects) and fluid combat such as mapping primary and secondary weapons to different buttons. The game play in both games is similar and combat is fun! I can't justify buying both though...
Keep in mind that big sites like ign have multiple reviewers that all have different taste.
Its hard to know if a game is good if each game is reviewed by different people all the time.
Which is why I love CGR it's just Mark and his taste in games is close to mine.
I kind of shrugged this game off when I first heard about it, but once again Mark has completely sold me on a game.
Now DAMN IT. This is a video game. Not Skyrim, not Black Ops 2. This is an actual video game that isn't a rehash of what's came before, with hard work and lots of imagination that's went into it so that it's bigger and better than the games that have come before. One of the best games I've played in years, I don't know how it didn't sell well upon release. It's literally everything almost any gamer could want in a game.
Should i buy this game? I sold and stopped playing Darksiders 1 before the bat queen part (it didnt resonate with me)
Ive heard this is much better and has loot. So should i give this a shot even if i didnt like D1?
PS, if i SHOULD get D2, should i get D2 or kingdoms of amular or wait for transformers FoC
PS: the zones were parts of the game. they explored more sections of the zones as the game progressed. there was nothing stagnant about it, especially when the mechanics changed and compounded upon themselves. if you honestly thought time-changing radii wasn't innovative from factory to ancient ocean, i don't know whats going through your mind, especially when you explore entirely different sections of the game.
Mark if you don't mind me asking What firmware is your PS3 on to play this game? I only ask cause I got my first PS3 ever yesterday and it broke about 2 hours after I updated the firmware. Coincidence? I'm not so sure...
I got this for $20 on Friday and I must say I love this game, so much so I purchased the dlcs
Looks like a bloody good time, indeed. There have been too little of these sprawling action adventure type games this generation.
All hail Lord Karnage and Mark for this kick-ass review of this kick-ass game.
This is a really good game, picked it up on steam and have been playing non-stop. Btw Great review!
Well the forst one's pretty awesome too. You don't really NEED to play it to have fun with the second one, but, contrary to some other games these years even after playing the second there's a reason to play the first one. While they keep the same formula, they're different enough to warrant giving both a try.
Ive just seen three video reviews of this game (IGN, Machinima and CGR) and since the opinions differ alot with IGN complaining alot about framerate drops i wonder if they have reviewed different versions of the game? If thats the case i would like to know which one to get. PS3, 360 or PC?
I love rpg's
I love hack and slash
I love puzzles
I love cartooney artistic graphics
Its as if this game was made for me
Great review Mark. Will be checking this game out after I finish Darksiders 1.
I wish more games would implement this cartoony, colourful, graphic style instead of forever going after the realistic look.
I agree, all though it was a pleasant experience listening to his opinion, it didn't really tell me much about the game. At least nothing that I didn't all ready know. Anyone who have heard of Darksiders know that it's Zelda on steroids but there is much more to talk about.
The guy who played Top Dollar, that was an awesome characters.
Mark is the best reviewer that we have.
Are the execution moves from the first Darksiders in this game? Those things are f**king satisfying.
Knew Mark would love this game.
Can't believe he got through the review without mentioning Blizzard or Warcraft once
the overworld is mirroring the atmosphere of windwaker while the world below is much like the vast landscapes and quarries of the n64 zeldas. its very homage-filled.
as for limitations, i don't see that at all. have you played wind waker? have you seen a game more artistically and atmospherically beautiful? its simply a visual masterpiece. even skyward surpasses many of today's HD games in creative art direction and particle effects. systems never limit the imagination presented to them imo.
Death looks like the big boss from the Crow movie; fitting that's the voice actor.
Believe me dude, this is something you will very much enjoy, and you will play it for a long long time!
is the second game somehow related to the first one? I didn't play first darksiders much, but I really want to play this one
Mark How could you this to me?! I was already excited enough for this game without you releasing a review on it and making my underwear explode with excitement.
Huge variety of armors? I've been stuck with armor that looks exactly the same as the previous one, but with better stats, am I just unlucky or is there really a big variety of armors, because so far I've only encountered about 5-7 different looking get ups.
Michael f'n Wincott as Death! I'm buying this tomorrow , for sure, now!
Who is going to be in Darksiders 3 Fury or Strife. I would prefer Strife. or are they just gonna stick with War and Death.
I've completed on PS3 and haven't had any issues apart from one glitch but I found a fix for that so yeah its really good. Looks great and seems to have less glitches than the other versions.
This video only shows segments of the first two 2 out of the 5 worlds you'll visit in the game as well, it's huge!
What happened to Sharpsu 1000 and The Origional Sharpsu?
And will there be a Sharpsu Anniversary Edition?
@James Schanz And that's all we can really do sometimes. Rip off=/=bad game. Do it right and it can be original just for quality.
bad ass version of zelda, exactly what I thought about it
I agree totally with Mark...This games "Darskiders 1 & 2" are very addictive and fun...The combo system is fast like God of war...But don't get me wrong, this game is totally original and very cool...Mark you are great...I love your reviews...
This just might be the first hack 'n slash I'll ever like. Played DmC and GoW and could never really come to like em, altho I liked DmCs art style and Dante was a badass.
But Darksiders 2 adds all the things I like in games - RPG elements! I'mma give it a try when it's on steam sale.
awesome review its out in the uk on the 21st already getting it delivered to my door :D and im not coming off my xbox for a week.
It's currently 80% off on Steam
