I still play finished games because in 2024 I am working through the XBox 360 back catalogue. Modern games and their publishers can go to the fiery place below.
There's something to be said for taking an extended hiatus from gaming - you find all these awesome games and at sweet pricing :) I got Darksiders II on a whim tonight, and just finished playing the intro - * cut to hamster with goofy drooling grin*...It reminds me of God of War, Devil May Cry, Prince of Persia and a hint of Diablo III. If you're a big fan of frequent loot drops, this one's for you. Problems? Sure...the #$%! camera for one - and maybe a bit too much empty space. I see ppl complaining about the graphics (damn, you kids are so spoiled these days) but since I still play all my old PS1 and 2 games, that's not an issue for me either. So now I've got to look into the original Darksiders.....
The original Darksiders has a more 'God of War' feel to it than Darksiders2. Its much more combat focus and the way you upgrade is more similar to GoW. So expect less exploration and more QTE, that'ts not to say the game isn't fun, it is immensely fun, just don't expect the same game. You can still expect some Zelda like puzzles though, but no new game plus, which is a minus since the game is a goo amount shorter. All in all, for its price nowadays, it's definitely worth it.
REDAKAFACE Thanks for the input - I'm definitely going to pick the first one up (if GameStop ever has it, lol). Unfortunately for Darksiders2, I've been sidelined by a boss that had me tearing my hair out in bloody chunks...for the safety of my controller, I had to play something else for a while :)
logan hair Yeah, they are a little simple at times but no big deal. Unfortunately I met a boss that I just couldn't beat so I had to put it down and play something else....otherwise I might have been charged with controller abuse ;)
Kevin VanOrd, you've got to be the best damn reviewer ever. Your reviews are very thorough, you touch base on absolutely everything that a person is wanting to know. I've never seen a game reviewer give such great thorough reviews as you do. We always know what to expect when we play these games. And, you are always dead on with your reviews. You need your own show... A show where you review everything, games, movies, shows, music, whatever... We'll be steered in the right direction.
There's actually a lot more depth to the combat system in the Darksiders games than you think. Unfortunately, there is no higher difficulty than "apocalyptic" which is just 133% the difficulty of normal (normal being 100%, easy 66%). If there was a difficulty with 200%, 250 or even 500%, you'd need to explore the combat system. It's not as deep as the old (or even the new) DmC, but it's versatile and unique IMO. Darksiders is just cool. Unfortunately, DrS2 is not as great as DrS1.
Dont let other discurage you from picking this game up saying there are gamebreaker bugs everywhere, there arent, or if its still there, its very rare. Dont miss out on such an amazing experience, so increadbly fluid and fun combat, loved the Crucible to bits! and all the sidequests. Gonna get the DLCs for sure
Nowadays, I feel that my interest in games is waning, and feel that I am growing out of gaming. Then I play this, and realise its the games getting shitter, not me.
Well the THQ studio that was making the Darksiders was sold, and i doubt they will continue making this wonderful game, because they dont see it as a profit sadly enough.
@JOLLYKNOME I agree. I wanted to play it so much because of the story but the gameplay is just so awful and frustrating, after 2 hours I gave up. Genesis was good adventure as well.
This game is a blast. I just bought it on PS Store with a huge discount but I wouldn't regret paying full price 4 it. Epic adventure hooks up from the very beginning, and the music is a smash. I've played first Darksiders and really enjoyed it but this sequel is one of the most suprissing games of 2012
I haven't played either Darksiders or Darksiders 2 but I am looking to broaden my video game library and I am drawn to this franchise. But I only want to try out one right now and then get the other. Which do you all think I should buy now?
David Funderburk I received darksiders 2 as a free monthly game from games with gold. i just recently played it once out of boredom and i never played the first game. it ended up being a really great and addicting game with a great story that really has drawn me into the franchise. they explain enough through darksiders 2 and just a little research on the internet in order to know enough of the story to play darksiders 2. from playing the demo of the first game i can tell darksiders 2 is a much improved version but i always suggest trying out the first game to get a better knowledge of the franchise or wait for darksiders 2 deathinative edition which will be a great next-gen port of the game.
shadowfox2321 thank you. I actually got Darksiders last week at Gamestop because it was a part of the 4 for $20 deal (Darksiders 2 wasn't). I'm having a blast with it but knowing now that the sequel is a lot better I'm definitely sticking with this franchise.
Nono, that's coming soon. I'm guessing this is to get people up to speed before they release no.3 because the ip was bought and they've put a few hints such as Wars sword silhouette
This is a great game! From the puzzles to the action! The soundtrack is great and the puzzles are cleverly designed like in the first game. These games deserve more recognition & praise as they a MUST HAVE for fans of puzzles, combat & exploration!
what I love abou this game is that Vigil did not just carbon copy Darksiders, they introduce new elements and way of playing that feels natural. Only played the first hour or so, but I can tell im going to hooked on this.
To any UK people who are watching this right now: until 21:45 today, this game is only £15 on Amazon UK. Amazing deal. Even if you don't like it, you can sell it on for more than that. No reason not to do it!
@TheKrigeron i recently beat dishonoured and am planning to get darksiders. It really depends on what games you like, if you get dishonoured your in for a treat with its play style and multiple ways to beat one objective as well as a story line that get pretty intense towards the end, so if you like to get this game keep in mind that their is a lot of replay value in this game and you WILL HAVE TO play this game twice to try out everything this game has to offer.
Just finished Darksiders 2, ive had a blast whole way through, what a fantastic game, Ive heard of some people having major bugs but I had absolutly none at all! PC version, they have release 4-5 patches by now thought, added more options tons of minor fixes and tons of bugfixes, might be why I didnt encounter a single one. But this is a very long game, took me over 30 hours to complete on apocolyptic, that difficulty was just perfect, I really recommend it.
i just started playing a few days ago and i love this game! i downloaded the patch before i started playing so i dont have any problems with glitches as of yet. the puzzles really make me think outside of the box and the combat is great. this is a great game and i'm not even thru the first act yet.
Anyone else gets motion sick while playing this game? It's bad to the point where after about an hour I really have to quit playing in orded to recover. Motion sickness rarely happens to me, but there is just something about this game that causes it.. Damn shame.
I was talking about Dynasty Warriors, not Darksiders. I find both DS games to be awesome and creative and never repetitive. Dynasty Warriors on the other hand...
I'm debating between buying Kingdoms of Amalur or Darksiders II. Anyone who's played these games can help me out in recommending which one to get plz??

Is the pc version a port? Because it doesnt look like this when im playing, instead i played sleeping dogs and looks awesome like the ps3 version or xbox.
Just because a game doesn't "LOOK" like Zelda doesn't mean it doesn't fundamentally resemble Zelda. Darksiders 2 pretty much stood out on its own as a game, but the first Darksiders was obviously Zelda-inspired.
OH REALY? On March 30, 2012, Ubisoft stated that in the three weeks since the game's pre-order campaign began, numbers had already surpassed the total US pre-order numbers of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and exceeded 10 times more than the pre-orders Assassin's Creed: Revelations attracted in a comparable time frame. But you know if you don't like those kind of games, then I supose I don't blame you for having that opinon.
Honestly this won't be the end to Darksiders. Just from the plot of the first one you can tell from the lack of the other 3 horseman they were gonna make multiple games. Hence the second one. First it was war, now it's death. I wonder who the next one is Life, Piety? I don't know but I'm excited.
darksiders 2 takes place during the same timeline of darksiders 1 so it is not really a sequel but death's story to save war.If you want to know everything then yes I suggest that you play ds1(you can rent it fairly cheap now) or you can read the summary online and proceed with ds2. Don't worry they are both great games.
I know. Elder Trolls, DyNASTY Warriors and more can survive for ages, but God forbid unique and clearly more awesome titles like Prototype and Darksiders survive. People have no taste. Prototype was a free-roam action game that made the player feel epic and powerful, especially 2. Darksiders was a great Zelda-esq level-style game and made a great use of puzzles, exploration and combat. Both these series are unique and deserve a long life. Not 2 games that barely evolved the formula. :/
Yea DSII has a different feel. The first one felt like God of War combined with Zelda combined with Portal and maybe more. The second one felt like an offline MMORPG. Yea, its much bigger but that's because its padded. Frantically padded.
It's not about the games being good or bad. It's the fact that they're pretty much the same thing over and over again, with some minor updates or changes.
Me too... you know, I must be the biggest DrS fan on planet Earth, and I want nothing more in terms of games than a Darksiders 3, or to be more precise, a sequel to Darksiders. DrS2 was not a sequel, but a sidestory (side-quel? :D). I want the story to go beyond the extremely epic "No. Not alone.". If NordicGames handles it well, it could turn out amazing. Picture a campaign that could be played solo or coop (War+Death). Or they could make a two-campaign campaign (like RE6 with multiple heroes)
I miss the days when game developers sold finished games...
I hear you my man, I hear you...
I’m from the future and BOY LET ME TELL YA....

True, but you also use the shoulder buttons and timing of the X button to chain different combos. It's not just mashy mashy.

On sale on Steam now!

Me too... you know, I must be the biggest DrS fan on planet Earth, and I want nothing more in terms of games than a Darksiders 3, or to be more precise, a sequel to Darksiders. DrS2 was not a sequel, but a sidestory (side-quel? :D). I want the story to go beyond the extremely epic "No. Not alone.".
If NordicGames handles it well, it could turn out amazing. Picture a campaign that could be played solo or coop (War+Death). Or they could make a two-campaign campaign (like RE6 with multiple heroes)
this game was okay,
Is this game any good? Like are there side quests and what are some fun things in it, it looks fun but seems it would get boring after a bit
@InaWiseJam no it is the same time frame as the first one meaning what ever happened in the first game is happening at the sane time in the second
In darksiders 2, you leave War behind and move on to deatHPHHPH 0:35
