Whenever there is Eurovision there is only a couple singers from all the countries participating that sounds exactly the same in studio as they do live (or better). This artist is absolutely incredible at her craft because that's what it is, a craft. I have seen some of the biggest artists in the world sing false or bad at stage but the live performance of Gåte was better than the studio which is very hard to do. Well deserved win! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Exactly. This is why many of us in Cymru (Wales) 🏴 want to represent ourselves and not be represented as the UK which basically only represents England. In Cymru we have beautiful traditional music and so many talented artists
Couldn't agree more! It's about culture and people, songs and happiness. It's actually good to see an Israeli flag here, this country is totally harassed in the nordic countries probably due to the media coverage and turning people into more hatred and isolation of whole countries. In turn they let it out on competitions like this, and wants to BAN Israel from the competition. It's complete narrowmindness, and lack of understanding this tragic conflict. Unbelievable, but true. People don't understand that war creates fear and hatred on BOTH sides, so in turn they make it even worse by banning, isolating, boycotting etc. This must stop. And yes, the war and hatred must stop as soon as humanly possible, enough suffering already.
@@todedo Thank you for this lovely comment! I always thought one of the biggest problems of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is how much the entire world is so involved... Everyone thinks they're an expert and they're all choosing one side, where both are right and wrong in a way... Gåte's song is incredible and even if they decide not to compete or just criticize Israel, I'm not ignoring this perfect song :) Someone already told me I shouldn't because Gåte hate Israel... It's just sad to see how we all fall so easily to hatred and assumptions. So again, thank you so much for writing it! It means the world ❤️
@@roy.moreno I agree with everyhing here, and glad I could send some comforting words. I feel sorry for every party involved there, the innocent pepole on BOTH sides. I've seen polls in other countries in Europe and here in the US on this confict. Turns out, it's mostly the nordic countries, Iceland, Sweden and Norway that are by far the worst when it comes to boycotting, demonstrations and so on. Finland and Denmark much more balanced in their approach. The anti-semitism is on the rise in these countries. I just wish people understood it's not about people, it's about geopolitics. One day also these nordic countries will WAKE UP to this. PS, yes the song is really fantastic and unique, and I hope they will win it. Regardless if they hate Israel or not.

The song is a story of a young maiden that undergoes a series of injustices, but by upholding justice and goodness, even in the toughest trials, she triumphs over evil forces and breaks the curse placed upon her. A stepmother is jealous of her stepdaughter who everyone likes and thinks is very beautiful, so the stepmother tries to turn her into different things...a needle, a knife, a sword. She casts a spell on her stepdaughter. Whatever she turns her stepdaughter into, people like it, so in the end she casts a wolf spell on her and banishes her to the forest, and the only way she can get out of the bewitchment is to drink her brother's blood. Later, the evil stepmother meets the wolf out in the forest and the wolf rips out the heart of the stepmother and eats it, and then it turns out that the stepmother was pregnant with her half-brother, so she drinks her brother's blood and becomes free. It is simply about free yourself from someone who has power over you, and you do it on your own terms. The way she sings her "shouting notes" is from traditional Norwegian folk music and can be described as some kind of calling sound «lokking», a sound which is supposed to reach far in nature (forest or mountain) so it needs to be loud. Its kind of a Scandinavian yodling-sound used also to call for a herd (sheep, cows etc) but also a calling sound used in folk tradition or by super natural beings like the «Huldra» to «trick» humans and animals to appear in the forest/mountains.
