This was probably the last time you hear Norwegian in Eurovision. When an acclaimed band like Gåte gets ridiculed like this, we wont send quality anymore, and known artists will stay away from the competition also unfortunately. Its clear the juries doesnt follow the criteria they should vote for. The juries hates everything we send and Norway is one of the most diverse countries in Eurovision. We have sent every genre the last 10-15 years. Its a joke. They reward other countries sending songs in their own language, like Ukraine, France, Italy, Armenia, Slovenia, Portugal, Spain.….but Norwegian isnt exotic enough. I remember we sent a beautiful song in Norwegian in 2006 «Alvedansen» which only came 14th. That was the last time we sent a Norwegian song…

It was probably the best song ever. I say this as someone who worked their ass off in conservatory, studying both jazz and classical, both improvisation and Schenkerian analysis, both tone rows and carnatic shruties. I lack the folk music cred though. I'd prefer a stronger instrumental part and more distinct guitars. But alas, this is Eurovision, the most unhealthy type of musical fast food. No surprise to me this song did horrible with both the jury and the televoting.

I don’t think we will try that again in a while. This was a particular Norwegian singing text and dialect though. Some countries have the advantage that people love when they sing in their native language. (France, italy, spain).
As a Norwegian I am not so sure about that. I guess people will place it on the genre, and not the language. Singing in Norwegian is actually rather popular in Norway nowadays.

I completely agree with you as this is my favourite song in the contest, but I think what happened was a combination of two things: - Norway had to compete with Ireland, because a lot of people seemed to think those two were similar in some way. I don't understand why, but that's what they thought. Ireland's song was also very good imo, so this already is a big obstacle. - The voting system doesn't really accomodate acts that a lot of people "like" but don't "love". If it's not in the top, it gets no points and I think for a lot of people Norway was just outside of that voting range. I still don't get why. The layered vocals near the end are incredible.

I have a real conspiracy theory 😁. I followed the comments on SoMe Friday and saturday, and discovered a lot of comments from people who urged everybody to vote for Croatia or Switzerland to try to prevent Israel to win the contest. And do this despite their original plan. Could this have effected this mysterious result? Or maybe this is just my rich inner life...🤔😊
Dutch guy here, voted for Norway. One of only 3-4 acts that actually displayed amazing musicianship, songwriting, performance, and uniqueness. Norway should have ended up in at least the Top 5. Guess the juries don't care for actual musicianship and skill.

They are an amazing band and this song gave the world a piece of our ancient soul and form of singig mixed wonderfully with modern rock/metal elememts whish is what they have been doing in their unique way since 1999. @tenaar Right? I thought the mix in the National final performance sounded much better than it did here. This comes off way noisier and muffled than it should, and for first time listeners I can imagine it makes it harder to appreciate what's actually going on. Disagree about the vocalist though, she has an amazing voice, and has been solid throughout. Unfortunately I think the nerves got to her a bit in this specific performance.

What showing your culture and singing in own language really means at eurovision: Last place From now on it should be called Popvision song contest as it seems people don't like other genres
To be fair the top two songs were Operatic Pop (kinda pop, but very rare subgenre Switzerland) and a mix of Techno and Metal (Croatia). France got so high because of how well known the singer is. Ireland was basically death metal.
Norway's song/ genre reminds of this French-Britain group we sent some years ago, and that reached before last place... I love both of these gems, but apparently Eurovision has beef with some countries that decide to show an unexpected part of their culture...

We need more genuinely good metal entries and Norway, Finland and Sweden have some amazing bands to put forward. If you want a recommendation from past eurovision then Hungary's AWS, from 2016 I think, are brilliant. Still going too despite tragically losing their singer Örs to cancer. They won't do it however because this contest isn't about the music or culture anymore. I mean for christ sake the winner came out holding a flag that definitely wasn't for his country.

How low do they vote vocal delivery? Her vocal delivery was by far the most difficult and best executed. Such strong, delicate, and clear vocals with such a force. Insane. Goosebumps all over.
I'll tell you how. Most of the juries are probably from the old generation and they can't appreciate the modern and beautiful music. It's alternative and as a genre is a little bit different but definitely they didn't deserve the last place. They are actually very good and wish them very luck in future.

The singer’s voice and vocals are amazing - especially the OOOOOOOOH parts, the instrumental/ background music slaps, the use of a traditional instrument and Norwegian lyrics get extra points, and damn, those beat drops have zero business being that epic! I am sometimes surprised by the Eurovision jury... This is a masterpiece! The song itself, the performance, the background, everything is wonderful here! How, just how could this come in last place...

I completely agree with you as this is my favourite song in the contest, but I think what happened was a combination of two things:
- Norway had to compete with Ireland, because a lot of people seemed to think those two were similar in some way. I don't understand why, but that's what they thought. Ireland's song was also very good imo, so this already is a big obstacle.
- The voting system doesn't really accomodate acts that a lot of people "like" but don't "love". If it's not in the top, it gets no points and I think for a lot of people Norway was just outside of that voting range. I still don't get why. The layered vocals near the end are incredible.

I have a real conspiracy theory 😁. I followed the comments on SoMe Friday and saturday, and discovered a lot of comments from people who urged everybody to vote for Croatia or Switzerland to try to prevent Israel to win the contest. Dutch guy here, voted for Norway. One of only 3-4 acts that actually displayed amazing musicianship, songwriting, performance, and uniqueness. Norway should have ended up in at least the Top 5. Guess the juries don't care for actual musicianship and skill.

They are an amazing band and this song gave the world a piece of our ancient soul and form of singig mixed wonderfully with modern rock/metal elememts whish is what they have been doing in their unique way since 1999. The 1000 year old story and the primal feeeling of the music is universal even if its very Norwegian. Breaking free from an evil oppressor.

@tenaar Right? I thought the mix in the National final performance sounded much better than it did here. This comes off way noisier and muffled than it should, and for first time listeners I can imagine it makes it harder to appreciate what's actually going on. Disagree about the vocalist though, she has an amazing voice, and has been solid throughout. Unfortunately I think the nerves got to her a bit in this specific performance.

To be fair the top two songs were Operatic Pop (kinda pop, but very rare subgenre Switzerland) and a mix of Techno and Metal (Croatia).
France got so high because of how well known the singer is.

Norway's song/ genre reminds of this French-Britain group we sent some years ago, and that reached before last place... I love both of these gems, but apparently Eurovision has beef with some countries that decide to show an unexpected part of their culture...

We need more genuinely good metal entries and Norway, Finland and Sweden have some amazing bands to put forward. If you want a recommendation from past eurovision then Hungary's AWS, from 2016 I think, are brilliant. Still going too despite tragically losing their singer Örs to cancer.
They won't do it however because this contest isn't about the music or culture anymore. I mean for christ sake the winner came out holding a flag that definitely wasn't for his country.

This song is SO cool! The singer’s voice and vocals are amazing - especially the OOOOOOOOH parts, the instrumental/ background music slaps, the use of a traditional instrument and Norwegian lyrics get extra points, and damn, those beat drops have zero business being that epic!
