    I just don't think it's fair to price models based on made-up stats that they casually change whenever they want, the prices should be for the amount of plastic used and nothing else

      ya that would be great, but selling a squad of 5 for 55, and a character for 45 makes them way more money, so dont expect it to change any time soon

      It's more of a formula of rules design time, model design time, cost of making moulds, etc. vs. how many they can sell per player of the faction.
      A unit box of 5 for $55 will sell 3+ boxes to every player of that faction. A character for $45 will sell 0-1 model per player of the faction.

      @Gutterling you forgot taxes and shipping cost at least. Even then the prices are beyond bloated and the molds pay for themselves on launch and it's pure profit afterwards.

    1:26 You're off base as to why it's not dual purpose. Forgeworld is a separate entity than Games Workshop when it comes to profit/loss that share MFG and Dist. When people are buying Heresy products to use in 40k, which business deserves the sale? As of a year and a bit ago, they wanted a bigger separation between the two sides to make results and as such dividends more clear. That is why they don't allow relics from Heresy to be used in 40k anymore.

    • @WarHammerMan
      @WarHammerMan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      forgeworld doesnt make plastic kits, they make resin, this is plastic. also i know they are trying to keep track of the sales related to the game, but they made an exception for much of the adeptus custodes line, daemons, imperial knights... so if they wanted, i'm sure they could do the same for ad mech. so i'm def not off base, suggesting that they could kill 2 birds with 1 stone, by fixing 40k ad mech, getting a ton more sales, and just counting them for HH, its called thinking outside the box. when they put stuff into Legends, which is what you mean, not relics, the HH sales plummeted. its never too late, to realize you made a mistake, and change going forward. thats all i'm suggesting .cheers

    • @julianmhu
      @julianmhu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WarHammerMan I'll open by saying that I agree with you, cross-sales is better for the company as a whole and should logically make the games workshop collective more money.
      What you're overlooking is that the company isn't structured to just maximize overall profits, it's structured for shareholder dividends. Part of that is the way Forgeworld, Specialist Games and Games Workshop are all separate entities. FW actually buys its plastic line, in totality, from games workshop MFG, and then sells it via consignment in GW retail and web stores. That is a very silly way to do things if you're one company -- but they're legally not one company.
      There's a lot of really strange things bureaucratically going on that don't make sense unless you see how it's been iterated on over the years.
      I'm not trying to argue with you, or disagree that GW aren't fumbling the ball with this whole situation, I'm just letting you know that in its current structure all the sub-companies benefit in no way from sharing with each other and are effectively in competition with one another for the same customer dollars.

      @WarHammerMan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      not sure how you missed it, but i'll remind you... the issue is that ad mech suck. GW has been lowering the points, and they still suck, and an army costs twice the price of any other faction, because the rules are the problem not the points. so my solution was to make good datasheets for 40k, and let people use these models, to help fix the army with good rules. that is literally the problem i described throughout the video. i agree you could easily proxy or convert some of these cool things into dune crawlers or something, but again... that was never the problem. i hope that helped you understand cheers

While I agree that GW fumbled the rules (and feel) for the codex to such an extend that point changes cannot solve it, I disagree that throwing more datasheets to the problem would be the solution. They have such a hard time balancing everything that I think GW would only create more problems. So, IMO they should fix the rules for the codex and datasheets we already have first. a few reasons:
    1. lore
    The cult mechanicum and the adeptus mechanicus are 2 very different faction, just as the space marines of the horus heresy are very different than the space marines in 40k. Yes on a surface level a space marine is still a space marine, but the unit composition and overall presentation of the units have changed as well as how they are used.
    2. balance
    This is kinda one of the big reasons why they removed all the horus heresy kits from 40k, its a pain to try to support these models in 2 different games, and usually horus heresy stuff isnt part of the main codex, but rather a completely separate book entirely that only gets released at the start of the edition and is never updated.
    3. MONEY
    because the ability to buy one army for 2 games will never be profitable. its why chaos demons have always sucked in 40k, and why in AoS they made it so demons arent even their own faction, they are part of each of the dedicated factions to chaos within AoS. you could have a chaos demon army in 40k, but you cant 1 to 1 bring that army into AoS as most of those units cannot be fielded together. so better fork up money for other kits to play AoS.

    Their main sin is greed. I thought at first, that they gave people three editions at least, to change Firstborn SM to Primaris SM. But, than I remembered, that in HH players are using SM, which later will become Firstborn SM. They may not be making official FSM, but HH SM are one. And still players cannot be sure, this game will be support long enough to be worthy of considering to buy.

And I have so much fun, even if battle tooks to finish 7 hours. And Classic Battletech is mostly platoon against the platoon level combat.

    A lot of people seem to be asking where the main gun of the Triaros is, which is kind of funny. Despite it's size, it's a troop transport first, not a battle tank. Though admittedly, 40k can be a bit loose with this distinction.
    On the Dual-Purpose issue:
    Even if multiple full ranges can be used in two or more games, that still has a lot of people starting another game and potentially starting a second (third, fourth,...) army in either of the games you play at some point.
    At least I know very few people overall, who didn't at least tip their toes in a few armies besides their main ones ans just playing that second or third game opens up the pool of future armies to start even more.
    Another big example for this is ToW, where they could have easily adjusted the base sizes to make it possible to put most models on their AoS round bases and have these fit into the ToW square and rectangular ones. It would boost the game a lot and provide double the chances of updating some of the older ranges that have a big overlap (and updating outdated ranges is something they should do a lot more for ToW anyway.).
    Make it easy for people to use their Empire and Bretonia armies (Kislev and Cathay too, whenever these may get released) as Cities of Sigmar with their own aesthetic, similar to how Imperial Guard regiments in 40k have their own look. Make that the go-to army for people to kitbash.
    Build up old school Dwarfs as their own faction (or subfaction in a shared Duardin Battletome) in AoS, it makes sense both in the narrative, to properly move them out of Cities of Sigmar and to give the range more appeal (and double the chances to update the older models).
    Add the fitting elements of the different Chaos armies to the ToW Warriors of Chaos or Beastmen, so much of the AoS releases are already based on old WHFB concepts and artwork anyway.
    Get Vampire Counts, Daemons, Lizardmen and especially Skaven out of the Legends dead end, so people with these shiny new AoS armies can get into ToW easily, straight up giving them an incentive to expand the army beyond what would be needed for AoS.
    Get Beastmen back into AoS.

    All this boils down to a mild case of "hobby envy". GW aren't giving you official rules for these guys in the way that you want and your analysis os that GW are failing as a result.
    These battle force boxes will sell out, they'll do so quickly, they just won't be usable in 40k except for as proxies or conversion fodder.
    As for armies being used across systems, Daemons make a lie of that. Militia kinda does too, seeing as so much of it uses Guard, Necromunda and even Genestealer Cult stuff.
    I'm sorry if my evaluation of the video makes it seem childish but... Well, it kinda is.

    GW seems a little schizophrenic with the models when factoring in the rules segregation. Why bother up scaling the MK VI and MK III marines? I would consider trying 30K if there were games being played at my FLGS. Many of my older models for Blood Angels and Space Wolves are technically playable in 30K. My Space Wolves army has two Land Raiders from the old original kit. The new Spartan looks awesome alongside them. I guess I will need to use the legends datasheet if I want to play it. Sigh.

Given how low the production level of these boxes is and how hard it is to get them, I'd rather see them reach Horus Heresy players who waited years to get plastic instead of crazy price resin than joining the latest fad of the 40K circus that will have forgotten the units for better meta and shinier plastic. If GW was churning plastic like there's no tomorrow and kept boxes in stock, sure make the datasheet available and don't garden wall the models. But given its low production investment, high return policy that the current shareholders want, that's a hard no.
