We worked out the gear is in the engine nascelles, so when spitballing it yesterday, came up with the theory that since all those "bumpers" on the front and bottom seem to be on pivoting and extending arms, perhaps they are some kind of grappling or mag-locking system for holding the Legionnaire to the target ship.
Aye, someone else commented the same. I'm thinking that, or the front are actually to protect the weapons, and the bottom are to hold seats that drop down individually
"Advanced Security Infiltration System" If you're gonna dock with a hammerhead, you gotta get the shield out of the way first. I think that may be able to shut down enemy ships, but it's primarily about hijacking specific systems to clear the way for it's primary role. I would have expected a powerful tractor beam facing forward as well as aft, or a tractor 'turret' of sorts, to pull itself into place. Additionally, I'd definitely pair this with something like a cutlass blue, loaded up with distortion. A QED and some way to offensively shut down the target in the event EWAR doesn't work as planned...

Seems like a Redeemer would be a good pairing with the Legionnaire. ‘Deemer brings the dakka to take down shields and defang the target then while the Legionnaire applies EW fuckery in support and then moves in to infiltrate. Is the Legionnaire small enough to fit on a Liberator? The redeemer is officially too big but does actually fit (according to holoviewer model). A Redeemer + Legionnaire based of a Liberator sounds like a lot of fun for a small org.

Its revealed! And it looks like i was in the ball park with most things. E-Warfare, heavy armour, docking... Didn't expect the "utility mount" and "top circle" to be remote turrets though. My fail on that one. Still no idea what the flaps are for though.... Rule of cool after all? or impact absorbers? Oh, and its £115 (usually about the same in USD) Something bought to my attention is that the landing gear is actually on the thrusters! So what i thought was gear, is in fact, not. This ship reminds me of a Pelican, slightly, not entirely, but I like it. Could be a stealth dropship meant for just getting marines into a station or ship, and then getting out. Maybe the E-warfare shuts down enemy targeting, making it practically invisible on approach.

This absolutely screams 'Anvil made a pirate ship' to me. With it looking like it has no weapons, I think CIG might intend for it to be used in a group with other ships, so who knows. When I heard about the 'Security Infiltration systems' it also made me think that it might be used to hack open doors and internal systems for a ship when you dock, rather than to hack the target ship mid-flight. Either way, looking forwards to learning more about this ship as it could be very useful for piracy!

But when they get in game they just dont look as good or what was in the concept art. The piece under the main body appears to fold in flush to the hull. Looking at the design appears to look like drop seats. So you can land drop the seats down people get out en masse and fly out ASAP for hot drop situations.
I agree that if the ship doesn't work the way that you think it does... that it absolutely should! The concept for a fully defensive, ewar/stealth boarding ship is amazing.

@@RobotSpartan tbf yeah on those models they could have had it as a utility slot but imo a boarding craft like that it kinda makes more sense being a remote turret as you'd need to cover yourself while linked up to the ship being boarded. as for the ECM capabilities though im thinking more a stealth ability allowing it to mask itself even at pointblank ranges, and hack into airlocks and security sensors while connected.... as taking control persay could make that ship OP, another thing i believe it may feature is a EMP to allow it to shut the target ship down, so it doesn't move while trying to connect to board.. i could be wrong though, probably just me over thinking or just the way my brain works lol also a damned good video thanks for sharing, I look forward to the next ones :)

I am way more interested in this ship than I initially was when first leaked. I don't know if it's something I'll get during Invictus but definitely in-game.
As with all new ships, i'll try it out for certain. But i'm the same, not yet sure if it's something i'll add to my fleet (which is focused on BH and science/medical vessels)

Any hints there's armored doors covering some weapons? It seems like it might have something for disabling ships; perhaps a big EMP or something similar?
Unfortunately theres nothing modelled behind a lot of them, so i couldn't tell. now that i know the front claw thingies aren't landing gear (they're on the VTOL), i suspect maybe behind those
@@RobotSpartan I appreciate the deeper dives on this. I spotted the capital docking connector when looking at the model, but it didn't occur to me until later about it obviously needing two decks. Might be interesting start drawing your own volumes in there on how big a deck is and how much room might be in each. Heck, I could fiddle with it in blender if I had the model.
Those aren't the landing gear. Look at the VTOL engines, they have 2 feet that fold out on each of the 4 VTOL's. The items you think are landing gear will fold out and could be "claws" for grabbing and stabilizing on a target craft. Follow the pivot points on them. Also, there are 3 / side with only one set of "claws" mounted. I don't know why. I was also thinking the top could be a turret mount, instead of a docking port. Or even an EMP point, for shutting down the target ship. I do agree with the boarding port under the cockpit. It was easy to see the telescoping feature upon closer look. You can also see that the "bumpers" will fold up and out, then in towards center slightly to become a "roof" or canopy to protect boarding parties as they exit the Legionnaire. I thought they were just bumpers at first... but now I see them as an armoured roof. And the front shield by the cockpit does the same. Folds out from the bottom, and pushes out with hydraulics to close in the roof.

IMO the circle on top of the ship could house an EMP generator, wouldn't be the first time for Anvil. The Hawk had in a similar spot. EMP + E WAR + docking port breacher= Top boarding ship

Those are not FIXED maneuvering thrusters but rather the "Flex" thrusters on the Hornet for example that allows them to swivel and point in any 4 directions.
Oh, and look at the claws all over the vehicle: just scan the rear VTOL's, you will see on the side are pivot point, tucked in, 2 prong claws. And above the central tail thruster is another small one... it may extend far out for a variety of reasons. They are all nested in storage mode in the model.
Didn't see the engine ones at all. I missed an entire thing! The one above the central thruster is where what i believe to be a utility mount is, so i think thats just for deployment and stowing of the mount
Having a potent and maybe even a targeted EMP strike would completely negate this things need for weapons as you say as it's not wanting to damage the target ship since they'll want to be able to board without being at risk. The 'radar' on top could be the EMP potentially - but keen to see what they say. I'm wondering if those side mechanisms open up to allow for a 'hot drop' delivery or something? Although only being 6 of them is a bit strange... Maybe they're just a cool mechanical mechanism that opens up when the EMP is activated like the back of the Mantis?

That port on the back that you said is likely a utility mount looks suspiciously like the refueling port on the nose of the 890. I could see it go either way though.
The fact that they are working on this ship is encouraging about how close CIG may be towards getting some ship to ship docking and more functionality to targeting and disabling shields and engines (rather than just exploding the target).

I suspect what you thought was landing gear - not the sets on the thrusters - are in fact clamps to attach to other ships. Let's face it if you are about to get boarded perhaps you won't be holding your ship steady if you still have control , so the clamps ensure the Legionnaire attaches tight. Just a guess.

Good work, but I think the circle on the top is just a circle. For starters it's on a separate level to where the drop seats/ docking collar is and it's also been stated by CIG that a circle motif on the top is part of the anvil design language. Edit: Its a turret
I don't think the top circle is a docking port, CIG was very clear that top and bottom docking ports where being removed from the game as they caused to many traversal problems with the physics grid which is why they where removed from the Cutlass, Redeemer and Tali. All Anvil ships have that circle built into them as a design language, my guess is that it may be part of the E-war suite. And as far as no guns we also saw this happen with other ships in the holo viewer where turrets and guns did not show up.

If that indeed is a Capital class docking port, then this ship is significantly larger than an Avenger. It also means it has at least second partial deck, and is drastically low on passenger capacity. What's all of that extra volume going to? It's not engine systems; they're on the outside. It's not weapons systems; there don't appear to be any. Surely it can't all be an EWAR suite, and it wouldn't make sense to give this kind of ship even the most spartan bunks and extended crew amenities.
Probably a lot of room being made to fit a crazy amount of shield generators if there's no weapons to use defensively. I would also imagine some sort of shock absorbing layer around the crew cabin so to not turn the boarding party and ship crew into jelly upon slamming into a ship at high speeds.
I did say it has a second deck :) But aye, i think the true model is wider. Height seems about right, but width wise it's squished the 8 passengers isn't a guess by me btw, thats from the actual in game text. so yeah, i do wonder what the space is for. Pure armour maybe? Like, this thing is slow but tanky AF? or maybe they needed space to fit larger components? Guess we'll find out tonight :)

oh so it's supposed to breach through the front? hmmmmmmm... i'm not sure about that "utility mount" right above the thruster. the temperature emitted by the thruster is probably going to be a problem, going by realistic logic, so the utility mount will need some "plot armor" level of excuse for why it's safe being that close to a thruster.

Can't see a boarding ship without some basic weaponry. Even if its just a couple of pilot size 2 a and a top turrets, ewar or not I feel like some kind of light weaponry will be featured on the ship. Even extremely niche ships like the Mantis, Eclipse, and Hearld all have some extreme basic weapons. Hell even the Tearpin has some guns. Feels weird for this not have some somewhere.

Can you compare this with a Hammerhead model? Specifically the docking ports? It just seems too small to me on the Legionnaire and the lack of scale isn't helping.
I agree with all the points except that it has no weapons. They've more recently been leaving the models of new ships in the code with seemingly no weapons only to later give them weapons, I think the most recent example was the Odyssey. Obviously I could be wrong but let's be real here, the ship sale would absolutely tank if they didn't give it any weapons lol. I think the possible tractor beam at the back looks really interesting because the Legionnaire kinda looks like a Pelican from Halo so maybe it could carry an exposed vehicle behind it? Doubtful but would be cool. My money is on a turret on the top akin to the Valk and that it also gets another pair of dual S2 somewhere again akin to the Valk and the Terrapin. Can't wait though, absolutely love the design of the ship and wish they'd make an exploration version of this or the Valk.

Theres various ways, but probably the easiest now is a program called starfab, made by the modding community. Just google "starfab star citizen" and it will come up with the gitlab for the project :)
Okay this is cool. But I want some WH40K space marine boarding action. Like boarding vessels that are straight up crashed into the enemy vessel, penetrating their hull and opening up inside to let the marines do their job. Like I don't want to just use the enemy's docking collar (if there even is one). I want to attach to any point on the ship and blast a hole through the hull.
I suspect thats beyond the realms of what CIG can do. Doors can be cut, but free form cutting into hulls is probably too complex for the game with its scale

I really hope SC actuates the main trusters during flight to aid rolling, flipping etc, other ships like the freelancer had it in their sale trailer. A boarding ship that conceivably might try s risky boarding action may need this kind of manoeuvrability
I still see the pelican from Halo every time i see it haha. though i never owned any of those ships in ED. I went from sidewinder, to cobra MK3, python, to anaconda (then one other i forget the name of)
I am very dubious about trying to board a player controlled cap ship with that thing. Seems highly likely you wont be able to make a connection since player ship movement will make it difficult. Or more likely they players will just blow your ass up before you get close enough. Seems Valk 2.0 to me. I would have gone a different direction for a new anvil ship. Thats not even getting into the fact that enemy players will stack up on the breach point and just launch a Star citizen version of an rpg directly into your hull through whatever you just breached.
You could argue that boarding happens when you want to steal a ship or its cargo/contents etc., not destroy it. For that to happen you will have to disable/cripple it. And than you board it. I am guessing that this ship will have some kind of automated or animated mechanic that helps it do that, something like hooks (which those missile circle looking things could be) or a tractor beam aimed at an airlock type of thing. It could be easily done imo.
So you're supposed to board a hostile capital ship with a single squad of up to 8 guys eh? Pretty risky although I could see it when the day comes that pilots are relying on blades and AI crew. Otherwise, you and your squad plus the ship may well become the prey.
8 is a standard squad IRL, so makes sense they'd go in 8 man groups. Although most cap vessels have multiple docking ports, and you can detatch and have another come in i guess?

Pretty useless when you can only use it to board capital ships, chances are high, and by that I mean 100000% that there are more people waiting on the other side than you can carry with this little coffin, also good look going face forward against a HH, which also has a shield covering the docking port and turret coverage of the front... it is just a useless (so far and most likely for the next X amount of years) SQ42 prop that is used to make a quick buck.
I'd imagine it can board non caps as well, otherwise yeah would be pretty damned useless. On the HH front, that covers the whole e-warfare im thinking; shut it down, break the door shield, then dock That said, totally agree this is a pure S42 ship

Just today ppls are happy that chris robert finally admits that they had problems with server meshing and that I cache was not working so they had to redo everything and plus announced some more delays. All those years to build tools to make the game develop faster and we get less and less progress every year but we are still happy lol.
For them to finally come out and say blankly "yeah, we put work in, it didn't work, we had to scrap it", whilst saddening to hear (even if its something i see myself daily at work), it is a relief for them to finally come out and just admit. On the delay front, that one i'm actually glad. PES is going to be buggy as all crap, and break so much. I'd rather that sit in PTU for a long period of time and not impact those who just want to play the game, instead of bang their heads against the wall (well, more than usual)

My thoughts are some kind of either actuated impact plating or some means to latch onto the ship that's being boarded.

@@RobotSpartan I appreciate the deeper dives on this. I spotted the capital docking connector when looking at the model, but it didn't occur to me until later about it obviously needing two decks. Might be interesting start drawing your own volumes in there on how big a deck is and how much room might be in each. Heck, I could fiddle with it in blender if I had the model.
Those aren't the landing gear. Look at the VTOL engines, they have 2 feet that fold out on each of the 4 VTOL's. The items you think are landing gear will fold out and could be "claws" for grabbing and stabilizing on a target craft. Follow the pivot points on them. Also, there are 3 / side with only one set of "claws" mounted. I don't know why.
I was also thinking the top could be a turret mount, instead of a docking port. Or even an EMP point, for shutting down the target ship.
I do agree with the boarding port under the cockpit. It was easy to see the telescoping feature upon closer look. You can also see that the "bumpers" will fold up and out, then in towards center slightly to become a "roof" or canopy to protect boarding parties as they exit the Legionnaire. I thought they were just bumpers at first... but now I see them as an armoured roof. And the front shield by the cockpit does the same. Folds out from the bottom, and pushes out with hydraulics to close in the roof.

IMO the circle on top of the ship could house an EMP generator, wouldn't be the first time for Anvil. The Hawk had in a similar spot.

Those are not FIXED maneuvering thrusters but rather the "Flex" thrusters on the Hornet for example that allows them to swivel and point in any 4 directions.
Aye i forgot anvil have the rotating ones rather than the usual ball joints. Not a big anvil user; my derp!
Security infiltration system makes me think of ramming/docking and then shutting down internal systems of the defending ship

Oh, and look at the claws all over the vehicle: just scan the rear VTOL's, you will see on the side are pivot point, tucked in, 2 prong claws. And above the central tail thruster is another small one... it may extend far out for a variety of reasons. They are all nested in storage mode in the model.

The one above the central thruster is where what i believe to be a utility mount is, so i think thats just for deployment and stowing of the mount
Having a potent and maybe even a targeted EMP strike would completely negate this things need for weapons as you say as it's not wanting to damage the target ship since they'll want to be able to board without being at risk. The 'radar' on top could be the EMP potentially - but keen to see what they say. I'm wondering if those side mechanisms open up to allow for a 'hot drop' delivery or something? Although only being 6 of them is a bit strange... Maybe they're just a cool mechanical mechanism that opens up when the EMP is activated like the back of the Mantis?
After someone mentioned the landing gear is on the VTOL, i started looking more closely at the side mechanisms, and did think the same thing at first, as it's under where i'd expect the seats to be. Would be interesting to finally get a nail dropper, but i'd be shocked
That port on the back that you said is likely a utility mount looks suspiciously like the refueling port on the nose of the 890. I could see it go either way though.

The fact that they are working on this ship is encouraging about how close CIG may be towards getting some ship to ship docking and more functionality to targeting and disabling shields and engines (rather than just exploding the target).
Keep in mind that a concept ship isn't necessarily being worked on. Case in point, the anvil liberator

I suspect what you thought was landing gear - not the sets on the thrusters - are in fact clamps to attach to other ships. Let's face it if you are about to get boarded perhaps you won't be holding your ship steady if you still have control , so the clamps ensure the Legionnaire attaches tight. Just a guess.

Good work, but I think the circle on the top is just a circle. For starters it's on a separate level to where the drop seats/ docking collar is and it's also been stated by CIG that a circle motif on the top is part of the anvil design language.

I don't think the top circle is a docking port, CIG was very clear that top and bottom docking ports where being removed from the game as they caused to many traversal problems with the physics grid which is why they where removed from the Cutlass, Redeemer and Tali. All Anvil ships have that circle built into them as a design language, my guess is that it may be part of the E-war suite. And as far as no guns we also saw this happen with other ships in the holo viewer where turrets and guns did not show up.

As for guns and holos, they almost always do show them (albeit not always scalled), or have very obvious mounting points (at least, the last half a dozen i covered did!). Theres nowhere i can see for them to go, but they may be covered
Its a Docking Port, not a "capital class docking collar". Docking Ports are very much not restricted to capital size ships.
I know, but i figured saying "capital class" was the best way to distinguish between those and the small round ones (even if technically incorrect)
If that indeed is a Capital class docking port, then this ship is significantly larger than an Avenger. It also means it has at least second partial deck, and is drastically low on passenger capacity. What's all of that extra volume going to? It's not engine systems; they're on the outside. It's not weapons systems; there don't appear to be any. Surely it can't all be an EWAR suite, and it wouldn't make sense to give this kind of ship even the most spartan bunks and extended crew amenities.
Probably a lot of room being made to fit a crazy amount of shield generators if there's no weapons to use defensively. I would also imagine some sort of shock absorbing layer around the crew cabin so to not turn the boarding party and ship crew into jelly upon slamming into a ship at high speeds.
I did say it has a second deck :) But aye, i think the true model is wider. Height seems about right, but width wise it's squished
the 8 passengers isn't a guess by me btw, thats from the actual in game text. so yeah, i do wonder what the space is for. Pure armour maybe? Like, this thing is slow but tanky AF? or maybe they needed space to fit larger components? Guess we'll find out tonight :)
Looking at the design it seem more like an armored transport, i.e bring VIPs from capital ships down to a certain location

i'm not sure about that "utility mount" right above the thruster. the temperature emitted by the thruster is probably going to be a problem, going by realistic logic, so the utility mount will need some "plot armor" level of excuse for why it's safe being that close to a thruster.
Looks like its actually a remote turret, not a utility mount. i was close! but you have a good point... That engine cowling must have some seriously good heat shielding
Can't see a boarding ship without some basic weaponry. Even if its just a couple of pilot size 2 a and a top turrets, ewar or not I feel like some kind of light weaponry will be featured on the ship. Even extremely niche ships like the Mantis, Eclipse, and Hearld all have some extreme basic weapons. Hell even the Tearpin has some guns. Feels weird for this not have some somewhere.

My hunch falls inline with 2 sceniros. One this ship is extremely tanky. Or two it has guns but they are pop up guns.

Can you compare this with a Hammerhead model? Specifically the docking ports? It just seems too small to me on the Legionnaire and the lack of scale isn't helping.

I agree with all the points except that it has no weapons. They've more recently been leaving the models of new ships in the code with seemingly no weapons only to later give them weapons, I think the most recent example was the Odyssey. Obviously I could be wrong but let's be real here, the ship sale would absolutely tank if they didn't give it any weapons lol. I think the possible tractor beam at the back looks really interesting because the Legionnaire kinda looks like a Pelican from Halo so maybe it could carry an exposed vehicle behind it? Doubtful but would be cool. My money is on a turret on the top akin to the Valk and that it also gets another pair of dual S2 somewhere again akin to the Valk and the Terrapin. Can't wait though, absolutely love the design of the ship and wish they'd make an exploration version of this or the Valk.

I think you're right about it having no weapons, but i have to say what i can see sadly. We've not actually had any holoview ships thus far (barring the ody) with no weapons, so i have to go by precedent. I (seriously) hope im wrong though

Theres various ways, but probably the easiest now is a program called starfab, made by the modding community. Just google "starfab star citizen" and it will come up with the gitlab for the project :)

Okay this is cool. But I want some WH40K space marine boarding action. Like boarding vessels that are straight up crashed into the enemy vessel, penetrating their hull and opening up inside to let the marines do their job.
Like I don't want to just use the enemy's docking collar (if there even is one). I want to attach to any point on the ship and blast a hole through the hull.
I suspect thats beyond the realms of what CIG can do. Doors can be cut, but free form cutting into hulls is probably too complex for the game with its scale

no it has two turrets the circle on top middle and that rear top where you thought it might have a tractor beam both controlled by the copilot. you got everything else pretty clost to correct. watch inforunners video on this ship...
This video came out before the official announcement, so it was pure speculation. I know now that its turrets :)

I see the pelican more (but i am biased what with the name). That said, i see a lot of the cheyenne too
I really hope SC actuates the main trusters during flight to aid rolling, flipping etc, other ships like the freelancer had it in their sale trailer. A boarding ship that conceivably might try s risky boarding action may need this kind of manoeuvrability

I still see the pelican from Halo every time i see it haha. though i never owned any of those ships in ED. I went from sidewinder, to cobra MK3, python, to anaconda (then one other i forget the name of)
I am very dubious about trying to board a player controlled cap ship with that thing. Seems highly likely you wont be able to make a connection since player ship movement will make it difficult. Or more likely they players will just blow your ass up before you get close enough. Seems Valk 2.0 to me. I would have gone a different direction for a new anvil ship. Thats not even getting into the fact that enemy players will stack up on the breach point and just launch a Star citizen version of an rpg directly into your hull through whatever you just breached.
You could argue that boarding happens when you want to steal a ship or its cargo/contents etc., not destroy it. For that to happen you will have to disable/cripple it. And than you board it. I am guessing that this ship will have some kind of automated or animated mechanic that helps it do that, something like hooks (which those missile circle looking things could be)
or a tractor beam aimed at an airlock type of thing. It could be easily done imo.

So you're supposed to board a hostile capital ship with a single squad of up to 8 guys eh? Pretty risky although I could see it when the day comes that pilots are relying on blades and AI crew. Otherwise, you and your squad plus the ship may well become the prey.
8 is a standard squad IRL, so makes sense they'd go in 8 man groups. Although most cap vessels have multiple docking ports, and you can detatch and have another come in i guess?

Pretty useless when you can only use it to board capital ships, chances are high, and by that I mean 100000% that there are more people waiting on the other side than you can carry with this little coffin, also good look going face forward against a HH, which also has a shield covering the docking port and turret coverage of the front...
it is just a useless (so far and most likely for the next X amount of years) SQ42 prop that is used to make a quick buck.
I'd imagine it can board non caps as well, otherwise yeah would be pretty damned useless.
On the HH front, that covers the whole e-warfare im thinking; shut it down, break the door shield, then dock

Just today ppls are happy that chris robert finally admits that they had problems with server meshing and that I cache was not working so they had to redo everything and plus announced some more delays. All those years to build tools to make the game develop faster and we get less and less progress every year but we are still happy lol.
For them to finally come out and say blankly "yeah, we put work in, it didn't work, we had to scrap it", whilst saddening to hear (even if its something i see myself daily at work), it is a relief for them to finally come out and just admit.
On the delay front, that one i'm actually glad. PES is going to be buggy as all crap, and break so much. I'd rather that sit in PTU for a long period of time and not impact those who just want to play the game, instead of bang their heads against the wall (well, more than usual)
Sounds... Useless? We still don't have proper use for Valk itself and it's one of the most useless ships in the game. Now it's space variation of valk, but without weapons or any other proper use?
