I got into Manau when I was about 10 years old whilst on holiday in France (I'm from the UK). Checked them out on a listening booth in a hypermarket and loved the blend of Celtic and hip-hop. I'm 38 now and still listen to them on the regular. Beautiful stuff.

I can't believe you reacted to this, such a french classic!

Check out the slightly longer version as well, it has a nice ending that I was missing in this version! Also glad to see you do this one, even though I didn't expect it.

ah ah so funny to hear Manau here on your channel ! Yep, i'm my country (France) back then it was really a big thing ! First rappers to mix hip-hop and celtic instruments and melodic themes.

Oh wow, I did NOT expect this one, this was a big hit back in the day. Heard it a lot on the radio (and saw it on MTV). It's a touch different from how I remember it though, guess that's what the years do to memories 😅

Really cool track. Despite the structural simplicity I dug the rhythmic verse grooves, the chorus melody, and all the little musical touches like the folk elements. As always with hip-hop I find myself wishing for a bit more variation, but like with the Outkast this has enough sonic and melodic interest to keep my attention despite the ostensible simplicity.

Haha that brings me back to my student years 😅
The mix between hiphop and folk from brittany is a little bit cheesy but the lyrics are actually well written. One of their other big hits is "l'avenir est un long passé" which is about the world wars, resistance, and the coming back of the french far right in the nineties.
btw it's bombard not bagpipes (double reed but blown from the mouth)

Excellent ! This band has almost made a one shot with this one which is inspired by the renewal of celtic music in french britanny in the 70's and above all the work of Alan Stivell. They composed this rap based on their celtic roots and the LP of Alan Stivell owned by their parents. That's not the best of french rap, and not the best of the french songs in the 90's, but this was very popular, and stay pleasant even if it's a little bit cheesy (I agree with this other comment).
You can hear the song by Alan Stivell here : th-cam.com/video/wMQbcGNs9kg/w-d-xo.html

If you liked the Celtic melody, it's actually a pretty ancient one. Eluveitie used the same original song basis in Inis Mona
