Ahah you know that is one generation old gaming desktop? This video doesn't make any sense. If one wants to do a comparison with an average PC workstation, then it should be at least with a Ryzen 5900 or 5950, and a RTX 3090. Then, we can do comparison. Or... a Threadripper, and then, RIP Mac ahah.
@@lambdalambda8028 are you on a budget for watts? If you spend 5000$+ for a Mac, I don't think so. Of course a desktop computer will always consume more (and will be able to do more things than the Mac, especially playback, considering the Mac on this point of view is inferior also to old pc laptops, as shown on many videos already), but who is going to render complicated projects just on battery, in real life?
Outstanding information, is a gross understatement of the value of your post. Also, great insight in to the Pro/Max CPU usage being pretty much identical in Prem and AE, really useful info! Great job!

a real life comparison of the benefit of GPU cores for DaVinci Resolve is something I've been scouting TH-cam for for days... so thanks for this! extremely well done, too.
From what I understood, there are now implementing a few other things here and there, but I doubt there will be a big change between the beta and the release. Because the difference is already so huge between rosetta renders and beta (M1) renders and also the fact that the CPU cores are used at 100% on all three M1 chips so it's very optimised, I don't think we have to expect another breakthrough in performance in the short term.
@@zebrazone fair enough, thanks for the response! I use plugins that are not yet M1 compatible so I haven't gotten a chance to try the beta yet, but it's great to hear that it shows good improvements
@@zebrazone "In the short term" that is the key. The fact that the CPUs are used by 100% could also mean it's bogged down by unnecessary work/clock cycles. If AE utilizes the GPU of the M1 Max (which has specific features like TBDR (Tile Based Deferred Rendering) that set it apart from every other GPU which means there's more work to be done to optimize for the M1 Max' GPU since it's not a familiar architecture) more than it does now we will still get huge performance boosts down the line. Edit: And also Adobe is known for having been slow since the transition to Apple silicon has started in adapting to the new platform, especially compared to Blackmagic. Render times in Premiere, for example, are still a lot slower than on Resolve and Final Cut Pro.
Thank you for your time, your time, time is the most expensive element of our life, everyone who devotes their time to others without expecting anything in return deserves attention, thank you thumbs up
M1 actually does pretty good vs the desktop i9! Yes, i9 finished in half the time (for one of the tests), but for an ultrabook that isn't bad at all if you can do that on the road! plus it's cheaper. 5x longer in one of the other tests is still like a 12 min difference. you could get up and stretch, sit back and have some coffee.. while getting the work done on the road. this is talking about base M1 air with 256gb, 8gb, 7core at around $850. If you go with 16gb, 8core, 512gb that becomes around $1500 where as 14" M1 Pro can be had for about $1900 (if you're a student), so $400 difference and you get a much more powerful cpu, same amount of ram and ssd (but faster), pro-motion display, more ports, faster gpu. the only issues with the 14" is thermal throttling and fan noise vs 16". Air throttles too but no fan noise.
@@zebrazone I can't believe that the M1 Max with 32 ram performs the same as the 2080 ti desktop setup with 64 ram in rendering. Could you do more tests to confirm this? I heard that it is even faster with ProRes could you also test please.
