If matey had come over and asked politely for you to include in your video that it was Maintance week so the viewer understood the situation (just as you did) then no problem - but they haven’t done themselves any favours there. I bet no one else if going to give them any exposure and it’s such a quirky course with sheep on the greens, that does it really matter - all a bit unnecessary !!
Well I never, I think the fact you did the courtesy of emailing the club, as a guest, with no reposnse. The manager then coming out to confront you about filming, bleating on about course maintenance which incidently every course in the land has to do, shows the club in a much poorer light than simply the course maintenance. Every youtube golf channel will play golf at a course that is doing maintenance just wow....🤯
Very enjoyable round, to a certain point. Nothing like approaching you mid round to tell not to do what you’ve been doing for a while. They are worried about course maintenance videos while they have farm animals and craters in the fairway. I say dust the sand from your sandals and don’t go back. It’s not like they are on the Open Rota anyway.
TBH I didn’t think the guy was too bad. He spoke calmly and explained his concern. I’d read some of the comments before seeing that part of the video and I was expecting a big argument. Obviously he should have responded to the email and it’s perfectly reasonable to request that you mention it’s maintenance week so the greens won’t be great, but I don’t think his attitude was way off. However, like you James, I never go back to a club where I feel slighted. And it happens too often. Golf is such a mental game and there’s no point playing somewhere if you feel a bad vibe. Last year we were about to tee off and someone started shouting at us from about 100y away. He stormed over and said he was the chairman and we shouldn’t have our trolleys on the tee box and “people like us” were ruining the course (we were 4 men in late 50s - 60s, all regular players and members of another club). We looked at the trolleys and one wheel of one trolley was touching the edge of the tee box. His response was that we “should be more careful" and he would be telling people to keep an eye on us. Needless to say, it ruined our day and we won't be back. sometimes golf courses are their own worst enemies.
I had a manager yell at me for the same thing as my buggy had a wheel on the green. Total weight is prob 2kg I'm 125kg and he concerned about my wheel haha
Since most clubs have internet access it's normal to post when course maintenance will be in operation to inform both members and visitors of any restrictions on the course,in any event it's pure ignorance and bad manners on his part not replying to your email. Never mind James,there's one in every club!

That guy seemed pretty polite compared to what we deal with in Massachusetts. They could've responded to the email in 3 minutes and avoided this all together. Getting back to Thailand this winter?
If he'd have apologised for not getting back to you in the first instance then that would have been ok, I can see why some golf courses wouldn't like a video done of a round, at the end of the day you're there to play golf , if I was playing behind someone who spent time setting up a camera then I have to say that it would annoy me, I'm sure this isn't the case when you play...Your videos are always a really nice watch so don't take it to heart and the next round will be better!

Holywell has for ages been on My "Quirky Courses List" with a definite view to giving it a go (I live near West Lancs so Holywell is fairly handy). Andy (The Average Golfer) has often recorded stuff at this course so again his stuff raised My interest in sampling Holywell. Well, I'm no longer interested and Holywell can thank Mr Angry and his telepathy skills for that. What a pompous oaf ! I thought that you'd been very fair and shown respectful understanding of the conditions due to essential upkeep as any fair minded customer would do.

Nice video, shame about the manager. I’m not sure how you were supposed to know that his failure to respond to your email meant that he didn’t want you to video. Regardless of any ongoing maintenance (which was not particularly intrusive at any point) the course looked nice enough, but given the attitude of the manager towards you, Holywell will not be on my schedule.
