  • Have you ever wondered what El Niño is? Trace was curious and decided to do some digging to figure out what exactly it is.
    Read More:
    How El Nino will change the world’s weather in 2014
    www.theguardian.com/environmen...
    “The global El Niño weather phenomenon, whose impacts cause global famines, floods - and even wars - now has a 90% chance of striking this year, according to the latest forecast released to the Guardian.”
    What Is El Nino?
    earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Feat...
    “Fishermen who ply the waters of the Pacific off the coast of Peru and Ecuador have known for centuries about the El Niño.”
    El Nino - and What is the Southern Oscillation Anyway?!
    kids.earth.nasa.gov/archive/ni...
    “El Nino, an abnormal warming of surface ocean waters in the eastern tropical Pacific, is one part of what's called the Southern Oscillation.”
    La Nina
    www.bom.gov.au/climate/glossar...
    “La Niña refers to the extensive cooling of the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, often accompanied by warmer than normal sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the western Pacific, and to the north of Australia.”
    What is La Nina?
    www.pmel.noaa.gov/tao/elnino/l...
    “La Niña is characterized by unusually cold ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific, compared to El Niño, which is characterized by unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific.”
    Impacts of El Nino Southern Oscillation on the global yields of major crops
    www.nature.com/ncomms/2014/140...
    “The monitoring and prediction of climate-induced variations in crop yields, production and export prices in major food-producing regions have become important to enable national governments in import-dependent countries to ensure supplies of affordable food for consumers.”
    What is El Nino and how does it relate to the unusual situation in the tropical Pacific?
    faculty.washington.edu/kessler...
    “El Niño is an intermittent disruption of the climate system centered in the equatorial Pacific that has effects on short-term climate around the Pacific basin.”

    My question I want a scientific answer for is: Can too much of the same commercial have an adverse affect?

    • @jeronimotorres1
      @jeronimotorres1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      What commercial? My brain doesn't even recognize advertising anymore, I don't even notice that they're there. Only ads I ever notice are ones that put effort into being funny or creative.

    • @Answers721
      @Answers721 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. I'm not a scientist but in advertising, seeing the same ad over and over again is called ad blindness. It basically means people ignore the ads. So any money that Subaru pays this channel will eventually will be a waste of money because people won't watch the ads. Also, being that Subaru is advertising online, there is no way for them to check if their ads lead to any sales. People are probably not going to buy a car from this ad. Better if they had a ad running on the capabilities of the car. For car ads, they are best being run on TV or radio during the weekend when most people buy a car (Friday/Saturday/Sunday)

    • @WHO9119
      @WHO9119 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Answers721 I see it different even though you called it ad blindness yes most people do not pay attention to the ad but its a subliminal message so we know that we may not pay attention to the commercial but in the back of our mind Subaru is there and some people will go out and buy them even if its 10 people they will tell there friends how much they may or may not like them so in the long run they're getting there monies worth.

    I almost FORGOT El Nino even exists!
    I mean, hell... hardly ANYONE talks about it anymore, for some reason! But in the late 90s, I remember how news channels and weather experts GALORE covered it almost nonstop for a few months straight! Even Time had a cover about it in 98 or 99

    Here in são Paulo we are facing the biggest dryness( is that correct?) in the last 100 years, some dams are below 7%. The problem is so serious that some smaller cities have declared state of emergency, and have their water supplies cutted to near zero.

    • @allysonmarie3823
      @allysonmarie3823 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So is California, but the state crisis was told in the end of July and continues to worsen. And the El Niño won't help much.

    • @rafafr9
      @rafafr9 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Allyson Marie At least in california you guys are kind of ready for it, Brazil is used to having plenty of water, so nobody was prepared for it. And the authorities made the situation ever worst by denying the scale of the problem. And now there are places in the metropolitan area that have random water rationing.If it doesn't star raining soon we will be in serious trouble.

    • @allysonmarie3823
      @allysonmarie3823 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. The worst part is, here in So Cal we got some snobby ass rich people who want to water their grass as if there is an endless supply of water, just to keep their grass green; People who want to fill up their pools, which they never use. It's so stupid my God my neighbors made a freaking waterfall addition to their pool. AND NEVER USE IT! And also people wanting to wash their BMW and Mercedes.
      I wish I could send you a picture of how my lawn looks. I let it die and stopped watering it as soon as the crisis was told. And I shower like I'm in the army freaking in-n-out.

    Also, dry areas in others for wet in certain areas, or reverse... seeing as how I live in the US, Id prefer more rain here. Dry hot weather here sucks as it is, and it gets horribly hot.

    I don't like to hear that we can't do something like control the weather. When approached as a brute force problem it would appear impossible, the energy required is a seemingly unsurmountable obstacle. Rather than brute force, assume we use an intelligent approach? We've all heard chaos theory explained as a butterfly flapping it's wings in Tokyo leading to a hurricane in the Atlantic..... which would seem to imply that a sufficiently advanced understanding of these interrelations would mean dumping a bucket of dry ice in exactly the right place at exactly the right time might be able to completely stabilize a ENSO.

      It's blue because the sun reflects off the nitrogen causing the color to be blue

      David Grossman That's not quite right. Blue light is defracted(bent) more than other colors(google Rayleigh scattering for details). So when looking at a random spot in the Sky you are more likely to see blue photons rather then any other color. This is also why then the Sun is low you red, those photons are scattered less.
