I get that everyone is trying to stay positive about the Demko injury. People talk about how great DeSmith was this season & his last start vs EDM was great.
What about the last 4 starts before that??? 0-4, 4.36 GAA, .847 SV%
It's the playoffs. DeSmith NEEDS to step up.
In the one game DeSmith played in playoffs last year he was pretty good. 51 saves against the Rangers
Playoffs is definitely a completely different game to regular season. Preds showed us that in the second game. I don't think they outplayed us in skill but in heart & determination..

Yes I share your concern. DeSmith can pull off great performances, but he doesn't have the consistency of Demmers. In the playoffs, you can't afford one off game. Thank goodness Canucks have one of the best D core in the playoffs, and will have to step it up. Canucks will win tonight 5-3.
I hate it when I'm right. I predicted 3-1 Nashville and it was 4-1 because of the empty net. We need a bounce back in Nashville.

A 3-1 loss definitely means lack of offence. There’s no doubt goaltending matters , and the lack of such from Ilya Samsonov hurt the Leafs badly in their recent weekend game against the Bruins (5-1 loss). Allowing 4 goals, which Stuart Skinner did during an Oilers‘ convincing (7-4) win on Monday Pacific Time over the Kings, is a concern as much as the final 2 goals came after the Oilers had put the game out of reach at 7-2.
DeSmith may very well repeat what, in game 2 of the Leafs-Bruins series, repeat Samsonov’s good performance, with the Leafs’ having beaten the Bs, early Monday evening PT 3-2 in regulation.
All four Canadian teams that qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs have won at least 1 playoff game each. As concerned as I am that DeSmith, having not played against Preds for over four months, I have to ask myself how do Winnipeg Jets, even WITH A rather healthy Connor Hellebuyck, allowed 6 goals during a 7-6 win of game 1 of this month’s Avs-Jets playoff series. Yes Alex Georgiev was for the Avs a sieve but why did those Jets just throw defence under the bus? I have to ask myself why Hellebuyck would so many goals. Surely some of them were ugly.
As I am wrapping up this post it is almost 3.15 p.m. PT on Tuesday 23 April 2024, with the respective Sportsnet:
- broadcast start times for the 2nd games of the Avs-Jets and Preds-Canucks series 6.30 and 7 p.m. PT
- opening faceoffs anywhere from 6.40-6.55 and 7.10-7.25 p.m. PT
I'm very concerned and that news was a big kick in the nutz. The only way silos will get a chance is if desmith totally stinks it up. That's alot of pressure for a young goalie and can ruin his strides of becoming our future. Be careful

I'm hella concerned just like you Trev, this literally ruined my day when I heard of it earlier today. I guess this was a long time coming in a way because we as a team was fairly healthy for the entire season especially comparing to the rest of the league's teams. Now is the time more than ever we need our TOP players ie..Pettersson/Boeser to step up and compensate for losing a game stealing calibre top goalie in Demko.
I guess that's my biggest problem is guys like Petey are not stepping up. Makes us need Demko more.
I think we need to see how DeSmith does. It’s not like we have any choice! Look,he might just step up and crush this! Why not?! I think we have every reason to be optimistic. I say we win tonight. No idea what the score will be,but I think we will win and I expect DeSmith will have his best game ever as a Canuck.
You are right. I think am still very concerned but not as concerned before Game 2. What I'm worried about is Pettersson not producing. It's becoming a massive trend. Yikes!

I think we can still beat Nashville with DeSmith but I don't think we are winning other rounds without Demko. We will find out.

Torn as in ripped last year, i highly doubt it was a knee or something new this time. He will be done for the season, and be in and out next year with the same injury. Career in doubt never mind playoffs. avs got goergiev oilers got skinner etc..DeSmith is great Silovs is far from ready despite his little good luck run. happy bday trev btw

As you heard I changed my Game 2 prediction from 2-1 OT Van win to 3-1 Nashville win. Was 4-1 with the empty netter. I hate being right about losing.
