- DeFeet has always had a special connection with Belgium. In this song “10 Speed Cannibal” DeFeet’s Chief Sockologist Shane Cooper and his band CröMöly play to footage from the film “La Course en Tête” which examined the racing and private life of professional road and track bicycle racer “The Cannibal” Eddy Merckx. 10 Speed Cannibal invokes the hunger in the riding of Merckx somewhat louder than when the original film was made in 1974.
Such an incredible video. It's weird to see how large the men were back then compared to the men now.

Eddy merckx le plus grand de tout les temps jamai égalé et ne sera jamai . Humble sympathique je l ai vu des quantités de fois en compétition avec le temp il ce rappelai de ces fans inconditionnels . Si il a un que j admire ces bien le grand eddy roi des rois . Eddy est en super forme et voi qu' il est toujours de son vivant le plus grand. Que dieu protège le roi eddy merckx.

Appears to be just clips from La Course En Tete. I already have the complete VHS tape which is pleasant to listen to as opposed to this with its terrible "music."
Hi Greg thanks for your input. Yes you are correct “La Coursa en Tete” was the source for the footage. And yes the film sound track is so much more pleasing and fitting. In the end of the video I provided a small credit. I understand your point of view totally. The music is very harsh, but all homemade. Thanks again for your input.
@@defeet444 Just to provide another viewpoint, I don't normally listen to this style of music, but I enjoyed it and thought it brought out the power of Merckx's riding in the video very well. I like both La Course en Tete as well as this shorter video. Great job!

Ocana really destroyed Merckx in the 1971 Tour. Basically, after the initial wonder years, Merckx kept om winning, but with much less margin. Just rewatched his Stelvio climb in 1974, and it was hard to see him struggle that hard.

10 speed rather derogatory to Merckx as 10 speed refers to recreational bike not a racing bike. ie a cannibal on a 10 speed bike. What rubbish!! Merckx rode a racing bike not on some 10 speed whipping around town etc. Should have researched using the name before choosing it. Like saying Lewis or Schumacher being boss on go carts.
Thanks for the critique. In the USA in the 70s when Merckx was racing, the drop bar racing bikes were called 10 speeds here in the States. Eddy did have a 5 tooth cassette and 2 rings up front, which are 10 speeds. When I wrote this song, I assumed that the words "10 speed" would be a racing bike. My bad on that mistake, as you point out, in your area that was not the case. Anyway fun fact, last week while I was in Belgium Eddy actually heard the song and said with a grin, "I guess I am the 10 Speed Cannibal". So I dont think he minded the words. Actually they were riding 10 or at most 12 speed models at this time through the 60s. Which makes their feats of endurance and strength even more incredible. As they didn't have the low gear ratios we enjoy today. I have a genuine Peugeot PA10 of the era. So I feel their pain just cycling it on the relative flatlands of the Thames Valley. The story of Tom Simpson, who was a Peugeot team mate to Merckx (in Eddie's younger days), is worth knowing about too.
You're wrong. Professional cyclists in the Merkx era rode racing bikes with just 10speeds (2 chainrings and a 5speed cassette), selected with downtube shifters (so no indexing). Should have researched using the name before criticising it.
