From Wikipedia:
Oklahoma City (/oʊkləˌhoʊmə -/ (listen)), officially the City of Oklahoma City, and often shortened to OKC, is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The county seat of Oklahoma County, it ranks 20th among United States cities in population, and is the 8th largest city in the Southern United States. The population grew following the 2010 census and reached 681,054 in the 2020 census. The Oklahoma City metropolitan area had a population of 1,396,445, and the Oklahoma City-Shawnee Combined Statistical Area had a population of 1,469,124, making it Oklahoma's largest municipality and metropolitan area by population.
Oklahoma City's city limits extend somewhat into Canadian, Cleveland, and Pottawatomie counties, though much of those areas outside the core Oklahoma County area are suburban tracts or protected rural zones (watershed). The city is the eighth-largest in the United States by area including consolidated city-counties; it is the second-largest, after Houston, not including consolidated cities. The city is also the second-largest by area among state capital cities in the United States, after Juneau, Alaska.
Oklahoma City has one of the world's largest livestock markets. Oil, natural gas, petroleum products, and related industries are its economy's largest sector. The city is in the middle of an active oil field, and oil derricks dot the capitol grounds. The federal government employs a large number of workers at Tinker Air Force Base and the United States Department of Transportation's Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (which house offices of the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transportation Department's Enterprise Service Center, respectively).
Oklahoma City is on the I-35 and I-40 corridors, one of the primary travel corridors south into neighboring Texas and Mexico, north towards Wichita and Kansas City, west to Albuquerque, and east towards Little Rock and Memphis. Located in the state's Frontier Country region, the city's northeast section lies in an ecological region known as the Cross Timbers. The city was founded during the Land Run of 1889 and grew to a population of over 10,000 within hours of its founding. It was the site of the April 19, 1995, bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, in which 168 people died, the deadliest terror attack in U.S. history until the attacks of September 11, 2001, and the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history.
Since weather records have been kept beginning in 1890, Oklahoma City has been struck by 14 violent tornadoes, 11 of which were rated F4 or EF4 on the Fujita and Enhanced Fujita scales, and one each rated F5 and EF5.
Right through the heart of Brick Town. Awesome.
Nice tour of Oklahoma city
i've lived in tulsa all my life and i've never been to okc. thank you for this.
Wow. Im from OKC and Ive been to Tulsa 300+ times and I dislike Tulsa with a passion.
Nice downtown area. Thank you for the tour.
Really nice video of downtown, really captured the area well. 👍
Looks like city in the middle of nowhere but i thnik its quite nice, special. Very clean streets and overall city without homeless tents
There’s a bunch of homeless tents here
There is a lot of homeless. Especially around 23rd and Classon, close to the capital building and the Asian district.
Every big cities have homeless. Even small cities have some as well. OKC looks nice and clean.
It is a city in the middle of nowhere. I did not enjoy my time there on business. But the people are friendly. Downtown is pretty underwhelming for a city that size.
Where is the middle of somewhere?
Man this takes me back. Okc will always have a special place in my heart. Id like to go back soon.
It's time to go back, the city is booming
Oklahoma City is a good city!
Thanks for another great ride along.
Such a captivating upload.
Your excellent driving Mike followed an exceptional well thoughtout tour of downtown OKC. Veiwing your video from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia as an older local resident puts my city to shame. OKC is so well planned...the multilaned streets are open and so clean & tidy. The parks and avenues are very well kept. There were no road works and building constructions spilling onto footpaths & roads. Pedestrians seemed so relaxed and happy...wish I could be with them. If I were residential in the USA, I don't think I could find a better place to live than in OKC. OKC and its folks make for a true standout American city. Thank you for your tour...much appreciated. 🦘
My home from 09-12. I was stationed at Tinker AFB. Kind of boring place but nice to see a different side of America.
Passing by the OKC Thunder Arena used to be called Ford Center after that Chesapeake Energy Arena
Ford Center and a local Ford Dealer right next to it back then
And a U-Haul place was right beside it when it was called the Ford Center I had an interview there end up asking for directions at the Ford Center and And 1 was there I got to hoop with them that day...........
Great trip! Nice city! Like 42. Thank you very much for sharing!
It’s home to many, loved by all. It’s the place we like to call home wherever we are. ❤️
I cant wait for the future of OKC its a nice city I've been there, I also hope the new legends tower will be completed.
Wow, pretty decent downtown.
OKC is building a really nice city.
Hey I was down there a month ago and the city has improved so much since I first visited in 2009
I live in Oklahoma City. Until c. 2006, what's now the overpass over I-40 was an underground tunnel that dipped under the railroad.
Oklahoma City Boulevard at 2:00 was where I-40 used to run through until 2012 when it was re-routed south.
At 2:40 on the right is the Cox Convention Center (formerly the Myriad).
Compared the 1990's, 2010's, & Now it's a huge difference
Nice, clean city, but the downtown looks tiny. It only seems to go a few blocks in each direction. Anyone else notice how quickly he leaves the downtown core. Also the density is low. Theres so many empty parking lots that need to be turned into offices, housing or shopping.
THUNDER n RUMBLE: NBAs youngest team at the top of the Western Conference,2024.
From NYC but im a introvert so i dont like to be around big crowds of ppl like its is constantly in my city i been checking okc and me heading to my 40s next year rhis might be a more ideal city for me nice and quiet with still that city feel of NY i dont care about action and hanging out if i can go out there and find a nice woman ill be perfectly fine
Damn my my small town in nc looks like it has more people and things going on than okc
July during the day; I bet everyone is inside hiding from the heat. It livens up a little at night
❤👍
How many traffic lights does this city have?
Too many 😂
Trust me, it drives me crazy daily 😂
I've been there. It's too spread out, not walking and rather boring. An dense urban core would be more interesting.
3:58 nice Lambo
Growing
Is this on a Sunday? Its looking very people-less
Yes, this is what it looks like on Sunday morning. If it was Saturday morning there would've been many more people, and if week day the streets are crowded with cars and pedestrians.
In weekdays there’s like 3-5 more people.
Saturday afternoon
Fun fact. If the city looks like it's devoid of pedestrians, it's because they're most likely in the underground tunnel network.
Sadly to say there's no underground subways/metro 🚇 in this City
@@TheStreetFoolosopherMr187 It's a pedestrian tunnel system. Oklahoma City isn't dense enough to support a metro system.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is empty, very depressing city.
I’m from NC but this looks nice and big just boring like it feels like theirs no activity
Downtown OKC is more for night life and not to many people live downtown so mid day it’s dead I suspect that will change with all the high density developments planned over the next few years
It's a Sunday morning - not much going on as would be the case where you live! Plus there are probably more people out and about in this video than in many other city videos by this publisher.
@@toomuchthunder4215 OKC is always about to finally arrive within "the next few years" and never does. The thing is, OKC is what it is and that is a car oriented city. There's walkable places and districts but they aren't as lively as in other cities, especially if it isn't a Friday or Saturday night or if there isn't a Thunder game happening. That's fine though. While OKC may be less lively than other cities on the surface, it is a lot more accessible. Ironically, the city I live in now has a lot more to do, but I did a lot more when I lived in OKC.
Love this video but where is the traffic lol where is everyone
A weekend in July. Everyone is probably at the lake. Lol
Is always like this, is depressing.
That might be one of the most depressing places I’ve ever seen.
Downtown is pretty empty for being the largest city in the state.. also without that one building (that actually looks out of place there) wouldn’t be much of a skyline at all…
The lack of people is troubling
There’s no lack of people, this is most likely very early on a Sunday morning
firstthing you see.... a man with a coyboy hat......
uh yeah it's Oklahoma
at start it looks like a war zone
insanely badly zoned and laid out city for the population size. Cool to see though.
m’ m m m
Looks depressing.
Where are the people? Clean city...but looks like a ghost town...boring for a city...😮
It's most likely 110 degrees outside when he filmed this. Everyone is indoors.
@marcbayarea1980 Oh! I totally understand that! Thank U for explaining! Nice, clean city!!
@@patricianorman209Yes, it is! I love OKC! The city is actually larger than Los Angeles in size(not population), so there are many business and entertainment districts scattered around the city many miles away from one another , which gives the feeling of multiple downtowns.
go back and observe many people, especially in Bricktown and near the two parks. In the CBD, not so much but that's true for most big cities during off hours, not exclusive to Oklahoma City. And, as was mentioned - this is July (the hottest month) where temps get above 110 F and humidity above 50%; not many will be out during the height of this climate regardless of where it is, let alone a Sunday.
this place does not exist.
this must be a sunday drive, because The City is very active. The homeless population is live and well through out the city. alone with stray dogs of all kind juss roaming lose. The city is spacious.
I guess all the homeless and stray dogs were at church during this drive
