"...and running about on the ground with a peculiar bandy-legged trot like creatures driven to alien forms of locomotion." This passage got right under my skin and this video perfectly conveys the chaos. Good work!
Yeah, the book can sometimes go straight into impressionistic horror poetry. It really captures the sense of strangeness that must have overwhelmed the kid seeing this massacre - and the future ones.
Agreed that it's one of the best paragraphs of that novel (or any, in my opinion). So much of Blood Meridian is powerful and hallucinatory that I'd have loved to have picked other passages as well, or made this longer, but animation is hard, and when the Judge starts talking, he talks a while. :) Thanks for your comment AB. I love when other people appreciate Blood Meridian as well.
Thank *you* for your brilliant, beautiful and funny animated short. And, how can anyone *not* appreciate Blood Meridian, am I right? I'd say it might very well be the greatest novel from 1975 to this very day.
" Only when the existence of each last disliker is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth. " - The Judge about dislikers lol.
@@zirconencrustedtweezers Ha, that's funny. I forgot I made this comment. The thought was, "if I don't compliment the video myself, no one will". Luckily, every once and a while, someone finds the video again. Like you. Thanks for having a watch!
Damn, that's the nicest thing anyone has ever said. Yeah, it took like a month in After Effects. Layer, upon layer, trying to match ever word to the millisecond. I kinda felt like a fool after a while, but knowing someone occasionally stumbles upon it makes my day. Thanks!
Lol I'm being picky I know. But you got typo at 1:04, it's spelled fletching. Someone probs already pointed it out. Cool video, its also one of my favourite novels of all time. Nothing else like it. And this was the first exposure to overwhelming violence in the book, if I remember correctly. Such a crazy passage
Oh man, you're right! I never noticed. Yeah, worked forever on this and seen it a bunch of times but never noticed "fleatching". That's so funny. Good catch.. And it's one of my favorite novels as well. No other novel I know, including the other McCarthy novels, has such a sustained, brutal, hallucinatory, poetry. It's a one-of-a-kind gem.
Oh wow, it was a while. I'm thinking it was like a month and a half. It's a good thing I'm passionate about Blood Meridian, otherwise I wouldn't have put so much effort into it. I just love this audiobook so much.
@@JoaoVictor-rg5ix The two that came to mind were the making of gunpowder story, and the killing of the other Jackson. I remember them both being pretty long. Would love it if they were a solid 2 minutes, but they were like 10 plus.
+Ulm Wurttemberg I know! Isn't it great. It's the audio book reading of "Blood Meridian", one of the best books around (if you like blood). The whole book is this poetic and awesome. :)
yeah, I know where it's from. just wasnt sure if "kinetic text" is slang or the technical term. a non-tacky rendition what they "savages" were wearing would be interesting. Or the home-made pee powder part. but yeah, this is awesome. words. I swear.
+10thEngine "kinetic type" or "kinetic typography" is a pretty common term for this form of visualization. It was a bit of a fad 5 years ago. And yeah, I would love to have done the pee powder part but when I timed it, it was something like a 12+ minute story and that would have been too much. I was also thinking about the showdown between the two Jacksons or that time Brown wanted his shotgun sawed down. I would have done the whole book if it wouldn't have taken me forever.
Just saw Word Crimes. It's pretty well done. I can imagine the time it took them. And my math is showing 12 minutes is a whopping 21,600 frames at 30fps. A lot of space to fill.

Best book I've read yet.
Yeah, it's amazing!
'...a little white faced pony with one clouded eye...' this line alone is so memorable from BM.
Ace.
It's so good. The whole book is a poem. I love it.
Great. Probably the greatest paragraph from the novel, so imaginatively and originally illustrated.

This passage is like an assault on the senses, and thrums in your subconscious long after reading.
My subconscious is still thruming, even now. The run-on nature of the writing is musical, and stays with me like a favorite song.
@@LukaBelle So many memorable lines. I keep coming back to it. Thanks for the video, mate. Much appreciated.
@@goodyeoman4534 Any time. :)
great work, haunting passage. Nice finish.
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you got a chance to see it. :)
One dislike is from Judge Holden lol
"The freedom of youtubers is an insult to me. I'd have them all in zoos" - The Judge probably.
" Only when the existence of each last disliker is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth. " - The Judge about dislikers lol.
No, I'm certain he would *love* this.
@@WillShakes423 You are probably right xD
This is beautiful. Please do more. Please do more from Blood Meridian.
Bless you! I'd love to do the story of the two Jacksons, or the Judge making gunpowder someday!
@@LukaBelle please do the gun powder. That would be amazing!
Davey brown in the ferriers
I want more of these. Hell ... You could do the whole book like this and I'd watch it.
Bless you. So many people have asked, I'm tempted to. I'm glad you can dig it.
Epic work here, Luka.
Thank you D Beck !! Thanks for stopping by. :)
Please make a video like this on Judge making gunpowder.
Truly epic writing
My favorite modern novel, by far.
Beautiful passage. Beautiful work by you.
Your a good man for saying so... I only wish I could write like that passage as well. :)
Luka Belle Me too. I doubt anyone can!
Holy crabs, this is great!!!
Oh my bobbins, thank you Alex !
Great job Luka! I like the part with the blood. It was hyper-realistic.
Great video but you don't need to complement yourself like that methinks.

how did you make these awesome text effects? must have taken ages - still rewatch this epic video often

who's the reader?
I believe the narrator is Richard Poe. A truly great performance.

Looks like the end of Chapter 6, if I'm not mistaken.
