I am an Environmental History graduate student. Masters Candidate, hoping to go the next step to PhD, and hopefully for the US environmental Protection Agency. I study Posthuman environmental history, moving beyond the role of human based environmental change, because that’s the next phase I argue of its historiography. Videos like this fill me with rage at humanity, sadness at the destructive force humanity possesses, and downright disappointment that people think because that these beautiful creatures have no say on their lives, that they can just take and burn and kill at our own volition without fear of the consequences that this destruction will do.
This video is why I chose environmental history, to educate the public about the dangers humanity can do, and the power to control how they see fit. That while they tear, and turn to shame, they can still comfort, and turn bad things right again.
Humanity is a powerful being, and only through more socially conscious populations of the natural world, and how humanity has shaped these changes, can we, together, fix past mistakes, and make this beautiful planet a beautiful planet to live in.
But how many will answer the call? I can not say. But I know we can do it. Together
What I don't like is how people just depress themselves even further by calling the human race cruel and disgusting. Animals and nature are not forgiving, they drive on instinct. We have the capabilities to know right vs wrong, and sometimes we do a lot of terrible things to benefit ourselves. But we CAN do better, and we ARE. I'm all for respecting creatures, but it's us or them. Eventually, there's going to be a line that needs to be crossed where we'll work harder for animals and not ourselves. I'm not looking forward to that.
I so agree with what you say. I am also filled with rage at how we treat other animals and the environment. Sometimes when i sit by myself and look around at humans in daily life or even at events, i see how utterly selfish we are, littering, poisoning lands, clearing land for buildings, roads, farms, orchids and other wealth driven activities like mining and ivory and stupid stupid things like poaching threatened animals. How dare we do that. Is this really progress? William Smith, maybe a drive to stop the poachers in Africa etc would be good for you to do. My work is in trying to improve waste management on behalf of human health and environmental protection. Just thought i'd share that.

I’m a person that doesn’t get emotional very fast but this hit me hard. This reminds me of times I want to do something to make the Earth a better place, like recycling and picking up plastic things outside, but my mom says that I can’t make a difference. That made me so sad. I keep thinking: “what are we doing to this precious world?!”

DR Fan 4 ever think about it this way, you are just a single person. You pick up like ... a few plastic bottles recycle them, that saves like what, a couple fish. Maybe a dolphin. Okay that aint bad but compare that to companies dumping their waste from factories into the ocean, i dont think you or even a hundred humans can stop that from happening, and i doubt you will go right to africa to stop poaching, sure you dont buy products made from endangered animal skins or horns, but at least 50 rich guys are chowing down on tiger meat rn. Cant stop the rich guy, cant stop the poacher, so what good was the point of saying you dont buy those products? Basically, the point im trying to make is, any effort you can spend to change things does make a change, but you gotta accept the fact that change is microscopic in the grand scheme of things.

Something we can do to make a significant difference is stop paying people to do this. Meat is the leading cause of deforestation. If you feel bad for the animals in the video, who are separated from their parents and slaughtered think about what's on your plate. We can make a difference.

But statistically, the majority of deforestation occurs in order to plant the incredible amount of crops necessary to feed livestock. Cows need to eat a lot more food than we do and in the end provide only a small amount of our nutritional needs that we could be getting from other healthier humane sources.
