For as long as back as I can remember to childhood I was bullied constantly into High School. They couldn't have destroyed my life any more completely as I ended up doing drugs being homeless and ending up in a shelter. It got bad enough for me to want to change as I've been in Chelsea Manhattan resident since 2004. But I came to the realization that anyone who had a problem with me then who has a problem with me now has the problem as I realize that the children that we once were we're no longer as we have become adults and I forgave them as I attended my high school reunion and was told that I was the most gracious person there and that being an outcast wasn't by choice.

Inspirational. Shows anybody no matter their race, appearance, disabilities, sexuality, gender or differences is equal, and capable of achieving their dreams. The music, the absolute heart and emotion put into the vocals, the lyrics, the choreography is just perfect. Nobody starts caring about them or seeing things differently but they stop caring that they don’t care. Every actor put their all into every second of this song and I am so proud of it. One of my all time favourites.
To each their own interpretation of course, but this is absolutely not what the song is about. They are fed up from being bullied for their differences of course, but the song is not about being equal... It's about standing UP and go on.
"And I know I deserve your love. There is nothing I'm not worthy of" This part really hit me. Damn. Also "I'm not scared to be seen , I make no apologies" Powerful stuff man
I always thought this movie was obscure or underrated but I'm realizing now that more people recognized its absolutely amazing talent, magical choreography and breathtaking songs.

The line "there's nothing I'm not worthy of" just breaks me every time. I've always had this voice in my head telling me I'm not worthy of anything, that I'm all alone etc. But this song just spoke to me and made me realize that I'm not alone in having those feelings, and yes, even though I have a hard time accepting it, I and everyone else, are worthy of love and anything else. So if anyone is reading this, just know that you are so loved and deserve every positive thing that comes your way
When Zendaya's character is giving Zac's the stink face during "I'm not scared to be seen, I make no apologies, this is me" girl I felt that from here!!!! 👏👏👏👏
His is literally a movie about slavery and exploitation made to look brighter. They could’ve done an inspiring story that wasn’t about, a bad story. You feel me?
My nephew is autistic and was at first non verbal but I played this song and got him to start singing it with me, I showed his mom what that he was singing it she was so over joyed due to it being his first time speaking (singing). I will always love this song for it and getting him to start speaking.
I've spent my whole life feeling unworthy to be loved, and as somewhat of an outcast among my peers. I literally cannot finish this song without crying.
No it's more than that. If you study the dancing in the scene carefully, it's a haka for people who are different physically, mentally, or psychologically.
They’re only freaks *_because_* that’s what people choose to call them. But I’m happy that in this song, they accept their title and treat it like a gift. Because they found themselves. Because they found who they’re meant to be *_instead_* of what they want to be.
@Bridson David dude you obviously miss the entire point of this song. Nobody is a freak sure people look different but that doesn't mean someone doesn't love them. May you find the knowledge to know the difference one day
The point is they're not freaks. They're human beings just like everyone else, despite the discrimination they receive for what they look like. Different doesn't mean not human. Different and equal and no apologies for being human too, for existing.
This is one of the best songs written for a musical in a long time. Everyone can relate to this on some level. Beautiful song. I cry every time I hear it. It is truly moving 🥲

@𝕄𝕚 • 𝕝𝕠 Sorry for the late answer but… Some conditions can cause facial hair/excessive body hair in women! It’s called hirsutism/hypertrichosis & it’s usually caused by increased level of androgens. Some conditions (such as endocrine issues, genetic mutations, PCOS etc) can cause hormonal imbalance & excessive hair growth in women. The characters in this movie are based on real life. “Bearded ladies” were popular circus performers back in the day. Some parents sold their children to circus because they were born different... I think that’s just horrible & sad 😔 Google Annie Jones Elliot, she was a famous “bearded lady”! I want to note that “bearded ladies”/women with hirsutism are not trans or male in any way - They’re just women that have beard/lots of hair! ♥️
Damn right you are worthy & deserving of happiness and love!! ♥️♥️♥️ Remember that you are beautiful inside and out, I hope your days are filled with happiness 🌼♥️
PCOS? I saw an interview (I think it was) with a woman with PCOS and let me tell you, she was gorgeous - beard and all. Like, whoa-gorgeous. You are beautiful so get it! Flaunt it! Show it off!

After being bullied, abused, talked about im not scared anymore this music does something to me everytime I listen to it. And since i love singing so much im gonna sing this song my My FREEDOM. IM NOT SCARED ANYMORE THIS IS ME GOD😭😭😭
Whenever I listen to this song, it always reminds me of the group of people I volunteer with who have special needs who need support from the people that they work with and how much the help they get impacts them throughout their lives ❤
They should make this the anthem of every school ❤ so no one ever feels bad for being themselves from any bullying and gives them courage to reach for the stars and follow their dreams
This song has moved me in a way that I can't even explain, it's been something very surreal and happy. It gives me strength, encouragement and enthusiasm.
This reminder me of the time we're in right now. God is good. He's always got me with us and we all have to live together. We're all the same no matter what color, what Creed we are
And these scars are our stories. To be told by only us not by them. We are definite and we are broken but every shards will shine on the right time. Hang on. Glory days will come. :)
A grown man, and this song has always touched my soul in ways I didnt think possible. Want an even more powerful performance, look at the rehearsal. I am not ashamed to say that every time I hear this song, I tear up. Every Single Time. Such a powerful song.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song. My wife and I were watching the movie in the theater and I was in tears the entire time. I’ve been a large man my entire life. I blame no one for my obesity but myself. But I’ve been laughed at, verbally mocked, ostracized, and told that I’m worthless every day. Every. Day. I’ve never heard a voice that spoke directly to my soul like this one.
My daughter has vitiligo and this song got her the same way. We watched it home first, and bought the cd, so she listened to this over and over for days until she had it memorized. Several months later, we had the pleasure of attending a sing-along at our local theater and her singing along to this had ME in tears because it was like she had found her anthem. I made her a shirt for the occasion with the phrase "I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I'm meant to be- THIS IS ME." She belted out those words with all the fire she could muster from her little 9 year old body, and it was very moving. She is proud of how she looks and tells everyone "God made me this way, so why would I change it?" One of the docs in our pediatrician's office criticized me for not making arrangements for her to have laser therapy to attempt to even her skin tones, starting at the age of 5 or 6. When she was ln 4th grade, she wrote a piece for her school's Reflections contest about her struggles with being made fun of and dealing with "being different" and she won for the school and got 2nd place at the county level. She was picked on by several kids this year, her first year in middle school, but thankfully, it was handled swiftly. I said all that to say, from the mom of someone who has faced those hateful words, we send our virtual hugs of support to you, and say "don't let the haters get ya down!" ❤
Hey man I also been through that but well other ppl word not affect me,and i do motivate myself to lower my weight that time (not because other ppl because idc about them 😂)i do this because i miss my old body that just so so and yea after all it's ur body 😄
This song literally delivered me from the darkest point of my life. Physically abused by my father and my mother doing nothing and siding with him despite me reaching out. even now, when i hear the line "another round of bullets hit my skin, well fire away, cause today, i won't let the shame sink in", it empowers me and reminds me that I'm ok.
I have a lot stitches on my face and black dot on my forehead and makes me feel ugly, but I just realized that my friends love me who I am and knows who I am, but they don’t judge me
@@younggriff4703 and it also received more hate then it deserved, just because people don’t like to be reminded of the dark past of things that still exist, like the circus. (Which yes the story is darker, but the circus wasn’t a bad place for disabled people, its cruel to say that Barnum wasn’t the monster, but the real monsters were the people that paid to see disabled people and laugh at them)
@@bobraekevelt7953 It's fair criticism. It whitewashed atrocities by Barnum. And I feel this could have been fictional instead, leaving out his name and just being an fantastic empowering musical with the story tweaked to avoid obvious Barnum similarities

Great comment. We are all equal thanks for noticing 😇
To each their own interpretation of course, but this is absolutely not what the song is about.
They are fed up from being bullied for their differences of course, but the song is not about being equal...
It's about standing UP and go on.
I agree except white French guys should absolutely be discriminated against

I loved it since it came out, but everyone was talking about it for so long, it was never really underrated.

They’re only freaks *_because_* that’s what people choose to call them. But I’m happy that in this song, they accept their title and treat it like a gift. Because they found themselves. Because they found who they’re meant to be *_instead_* of what they want to be.

@𝕄𝕚 • 𝕝𝕠 Sorry for the late answer but… Some conditions can cause facial hair/excessive body hair in women! It’s called hirsutism/hypertrichosis & it’s usually caused by increased level of androgens. Some conditions (such as endocrine
issues, genetic mutations, PCOS etc) can cause hormonal imbalance & excessive hair growth in women.

@WickDogeV That doesn't count
When I’ve watched this movie for the first time, I almost cried during these songs. It’s so powerful and so beautiful!
Yeah😭🥺
