- In this video I show you how I went apartment hunting in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam what to do and what NOT to do. As a foreigner it's easy to find an agent but the actual housing process - it's quite the barrier especially if you don't speak the language.

In my experience living in a rental apratment, i think you need an apartment that has a window. It's very important to have a window in your apartment, otherwise, it feels like a prison💀
I have windows i never look outside.
Thank you for talking about the reality of Vietnam that no one else talks about.
I lived in Vietnam for 6 years ... quick tip ( don't rent in district 1,2,3,7) you can get a gaint 2 bed to bath outside thoes district for like 200 bucks a month, with balconies ( if you have a vietnam gf or friends, have them help you thats what i did when i was new, saved like 300 usd instantly ) in 2015. Im back in america 🇺🇸 now ( tan phu and tan binh districts are literally hell holes dont even visit )
I know it's hard not being a insider and trying to get going in a foreign land , I'm happy you had success .
just stumbled upon your channel. Im out here in Vietnam as well, excited to see what else you got coming my dude!
More to come my dude
It's great to see more content from Viet Kieu (like myself). Keep up the hustle, man.
🙏
Great video, I also watched your other video about making the big move. Several of my colleagues from work are also Vietnamese, but i'm Cambodian-Chinese American. I'm considering visiting Vietnam in the near future.
All mini apartments over here look new form the outside but they are dangerous for any long-term stay because they are all closed-space, lack of safety systems such as smoke alarm, fire extinguisher, evacuation passages, and so on. So I think we should move a little further away from the center areas and rent a small house in a typical alley in Saigon. There are plenty of such homes, including some truly apartments, within $300 budget in D5, D6, D8, Tan Binh, Tan Phu district, I suggest. All of them are just under 30mins riding from Ben Thanh Market. I, myself, are living in District 6 and my neighborhood is just safe enough.
Yeah that's so true . You have to look at different places before you rent the place you want .
I came across your video needless to say, I had the same experience like you have.. moving in and out of apartments in saigon is such a pain in the arse. 😅
Came to Vietnam month ago too, struggle with a same problem
the poster of this video looks better than in
the past
Moving to Ho Chi Minh City in 6 months and also from Canada. What kind of visa are you on? I was thinking of just doing 3 month tourist visa, leaving the country for a few days and coming back on another 3 month one.
There's a visa exemption for people with vietnamese ancestry that gives them 5 years of visa exemption. But each entry is only 6 months. But you pay for it once and then you no longer have to do any paperwork for 5 years.
I just subscribed. Where did you live before coming to VN?
good shit
How much is your electric bill for air conditioning?
And I am paying for a very small and cramped for about 1000$ in one of the most expensive cities in the world where you used to live for the most of your life. Enjoy the pace of life in Vietnam which may help you understand who you are and why you are living in this life, bro.
Just started watching your TH-cam and i completely understand how you are feeling. Im living in the us but thinking moving back there. However i am living with my bf and i cant Leave him with 2 dogs that we just adoped 1 yr ago. Still struggling with the idea that i wish i were single now so that i can move the ASAP
Is that an enclosed balcony specifically for drying clothes???
Yep!
that's a steal!!! is the area safe?
I'd say so
Do you have to sign a long term contract? The place my friend is staying at is in district 3 Vo Thi Sau and he had to sign a 6 month contract and it’s around $500-550.
My friend and I rented a different place in D3 for a month. The guy charged us 11M for the place plus 2M for electricity and 400k to do laundry. He pretty much kept most of the deposit. I was livid but lesson learned. I don’t even pay that much for electricity in the US and I did 2 loads of laundry!!!
Usually 6 or 1 year, 2m sounds expensive for electricity
@@brokethehabitdefinately 2mill is too much I pay 500k a month electricity I'm Viet kieu but my Vietnamese is decent after living here for 16yrs I pay 3mill but it's not self contained more like a large hotel room in a family home
Just watched Ken Duong channel the other day he interviewed Vietnamese American Kevin Bui I believe he burned out all his savings and failed many times before became a millionaire now owning many bars and restaurants and become famous
What district is ur apt? I m new to sgn too, Vietkieu, living in Phu Nhuan, bordering D1/D3. We should have coffee sometime. I can give u some pointers for ur videos, though I m not a content creator, I just watch lots of videos. Here's a hint/comment, have a script, u forgot to disclose in the conclusion to the original point in the beginning of the video re cost. (But it's in the title, $300)
Tbh I'd rather not meet someone that offers unsolicited advice 😂
@@brokethehabit No worries man. Perhaps I came off too straight forward, just trying to help :) But Good Luck to u in ur journey.
Also D2 is not “touristy” depends on which side your on.
Not touristy, I mean more foreigners residing.
Did you speak English or Vietnamese to them?
Vietnamese 🙃
The place is not too bad my boi
Usd or cad
Usd
You could get an apartment with 300$ so much better than this!
I want to work with you to make Eating videos around Vietnam.

You are not a foreigner, want to admit it or not you are still a Vietnamese for all purposes my friend.
Ngta còn chả phải quốc tịch Việt, rồi còn chả sống ở đây tới tận bây giờ thì chả là foreigner chứ còn gì? For all purposes nữa mới ghê 😂 nói như kiểu ngta cố chấp trong khi bạn đang cố giãn cái nghĩa của "foreigner" ra để nói v
I love vietnam weather, everything is cheap and the girls are pretty but there’s alot of bullshit that happens in vietnam
The renting price there is so high 😮
yes hic
Thanks for sharing. Hard pass for me to live there. That would make me jaded to constantly wheel and deal and think five steps ahead.
glad to see your not balding post 7 years from that video 🤦♀
Look closer
You got ripped off for that unit 🤦♂️
after surveying locals, its quite the average for my district
This is indeed the average for the center of hcmc. I was looking for a place for months and I think I went through this one like his, has a price of 9.5mil just like the other rooms in that district
I think you should add more music background
Imo, I think it's a rip-off for what you get. Then again, I'm viet kieu living in D11 with double the size apt., two rooms $400USD. I dont know which district youre in though, but i can understand paying more for location ig.
@cefnylls where in D11 specifically ? is it a residential tower or renting a room from a home owner ? I am planning to go to saigon this summer, any information you can offer is greatly appreciated. a few years ago I was renting a room in a love hotel in D7 Truong Son for $300USD a month, so $400USD for two rooms sounds great.
Over paid for that place by 200$
Yep
I don't think he is interesting about that 😂😊
What? Scams in Vietnam? Are you kidding? Nah 😀 I'm just being sarcastic.
