I bought the book Capablanca by Winter that Antonio did & couldn't put it down. It was so interesting I skipped past most of the games so I could read about Capa's life.
Not to mention any time someone wants they can just freely skip them, mouse over until you see a piece move then mouse back. Whether I skip or not depends on mood but it's a nice touch for the channel.
Ofc you should tell stories. It's the charm of it. You can almost picture Capablancas and Laskers faces when they realize they just spent a long time listening to this random player talking nonsense xD GJ once again.
@agadmator maybe you could put a time when the game starts to the description or comments in every game? That way anyone who wants to skip stories can do so
Olavi Särkilahti this is a fine suggestion but it is also very easy to just scroll forward until you see the first move on the board. People just complain because they like to do so.
Thank you, not just for your exceptional chess commentary, but also for making the world of chess come alive with the stories you add. You are an excellent youtuber.
I often listen to your videos while driving, and while my chess knowledge is not fast enough to imagine the board as well as I'd like, your little stories are wonderful for my driving
I like to sit down in comfy house cloths, tie trout flies and listen to him. It seems that his content is not only entertaining for many of but also soothing.
Hi, Agadmator. This is the first comment I ever write within this plattform. I just wanted to say that you are really great. The reason I think so isnt't only that your content is absolutly nice (interesting and cultural but doing it with so 'apparent' simplicity and clear fair explanations that you make it available and enjoyable to every single mind), but also that you always talk and act with so much humility, which approaches you directly to us. Also important is the enviornment, I mean the community I always see around in your channel. Almost everybody is encouraging or congratulating you, or commenting the games, or maybe just making fun. I don't think this happens, generally, in other youtube channels. So, I don't think this is any fortuity but that we want to correspond your manners, and to enjoy as much as you do. At least this time, someone gets the followers he deserves, I guess. Sorry for the extension. Once again, congrats.
Another Capablanca story: This game started with Marshall inquiring if Capablanca had a good view of the board. The comment is now used before virtually every single US sporting event ever since: Jose, can you see?
@@universauniversisveritas before every sporting event they play the American national anthem, "oh say can you see, by the dawn's early light". It's just a joke lol
While I really enjoy the games, I am mostly excited to hear the stories. It really puts the game in perspective and it makes the games more enjoyable to watch. Please continue your hard work I really appreciate it! (and I'm sure other excellent subscribers do too)
Agadmator, I love the lore of the great old masters and personally I believe that any true lover of chess would not balk to hear these amusing and intriguing anecdotes. I had to pause the video to throw that in, so now it's back to the video!
Hey Agad! I've been playing chess very casually since I was a little child, but I never really got past the basics or improved too much. Still, chess always seemed like something that I would like to learn more about. I just really wasn't sure how I would go about doing it, so my interest in it slowly faded away. It was only half a year ago, during the most stressful part of my life, that your videos really sparked my interest in chess again. Chess became a way for me to momently escape the distressing reality that my life was, since I could just focus on the game. It was like a coping mechanism for me. Now I'll be glad to tell you that I'm doing quite well, but my interest in chess and the history of it is greater than ever. :) I still watch and learn from your videos daily and practice the game constantly myself, and I made a new year's resolution to join my local chess club. I've also got some friends interested in the game now. Thank you for creating such amazing educational content and getting so many of us hooked to chess! Cheers, Leevi
Just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed both stories, and I am enjoying the Capablanca saga as well!! Thanks for the awesome work and content, as always! Best wishes from Texas✌️
I understand you apologizing, but The litle stories are quite interesting so you shouldnt say sorry, i can imagine that all of your subscribers enjoy them
Actually I pressed "like" when you start talking about telling stories in your videos, it is one of the best parts that make your videos that enjoyable plus it increases our vast knowledge :D Always keep telling us those cool chess history stories. keep up the great work
My dad grew up in Cuba in the 60’s. He started playing at age 11. Capablanca inspired him then and is still his chess hero at age 71. Thank you for this series!
I love the little stories you add during these saga series videos. It adds great background to the games, the players personalities, and their growth. Please continue to provide them.
My dude, your stories are what makes this channel so great. Every single game is quite a show thanks to your stories and your attitude towards the game. Thank you very much for your work!
I like to listen to you before going to sleep after I have already seen the video and always try to exercise imagining the positions. The stories always have this amazingly soothing campfire vibe to them and always bring peace at the end of the day. Love the stories, love the saga, I hope you enjoy doing this as much as I enjoy your work :)
The stories absolutely make everything! Your whole channel is amazing. Stories, you delievery, you personality, your descriptions of everything .. flawless!
The number one reason why I watch your channel is the stories. Chess has so many good ones it seems. Edit: Oh and I'd love if you narrated your own little documentaries to all of the incredible peoples stories more in depth. Just an idea though. Haha
The games and analysis are awesome as always, but the stories are what bring these series together! It's fascinating going through his life and chess history through these videos. The story is the best part! P.S. I've seen a LOT of your videos, but this is going to be the first full saga I'm going to watch all the way through! It's off to a great start.
I love when you tell stories. It adds so much to the video. It connects you, me, and the players. It makes everything feel even more real, and it adds to the context. Tell all the stories that you feel like sharing, and I'm sure those stories will be received well. We all seem to like a lot of the same things, and everyone loves a good story. Thank you for taking time to read the books and making excellent content. We all grow together (:
Love the stories! It really sets the mood for the game analysis! It would be even better if the stories were directly related to the game as that would make the whole experience super immersive!! Not complaining though, you really got me interested in chess, so keep it up!
I just found your channel and have binge watching them ever since. The main reason is the stories! I really enjoyed the Paul Morphy saga, mostly because of the stories. Great channel. I love it!
These stories are beautiful. Please keep them up, this is why I voted for you to cover Capablanca. The chess is wonderful, but the story of this man's life is just as important for everyone to hear.
I love the stories you share! Your stories are always interesting and gives us viewers some insight on the match which helps increase our vast chess knowledge. Keep the stories coming and thank you for all the amazing content!
I love hearing the stories. I am very new to chess, but the love for it has been growing. Learning more about a player from the Caribbean is great. Finding the finishing move was great.
The stories are part of what makes your channel great! If I only wanted to see the game, I could just look it up in a database. Thank you for sharing the stories!

Many people don't really have time to read up all biographies and background stories such as the ones you narrate. I've posted a similar anecdote in another chess site:
Judit Polgar told this story herself:
She and her husband were on the way somewhere in the countryside Hungary, they took the train.
On the main railway station of Budapest (Keleti Pu.) there are these hustlers playing chess for money.
Her husband started to play a game and after a couple of moves he said to the hustler:
Hey I got some business to do, but here is my wife she knows the rules and she can play a bit, let her finish this game.
The hustler said OK.
After a couple of moves the hustler asks Judit whether she plays chess often.
After yet a couple of moves the hustler scratches his head saying you must be playing chess at a club or something.
So eventually Judit crushed him but of course did not take the money, instead introduced herself to the old man and they just shook hands.
That would never happen to me because I would know Judit if she ever sat across my board and would immediately demand Queen odds.
Given this wonderful video, it is now clear: the probability of misclicking an upvote is evident here. Simply calculate downvotes/upvotes. Even Agadmator's vote differential is an opportunity to improve your vast knowledge.
