Thanks to Xue for joining me! I see your guys' feedback on the react videos. In general, I think react content can have its place. Especially for highly technical content, e.g. reacting to whitepapers, blog posts. IMO it makes it easier to follow the papers and easier to learn. That's the type of content I personally enjoy making the most because I get to learn/teach as well.
The manager who told him that he doesn't have to quit is the same one who told him not to ask seniors anything. I'm skeptical about the manager's perspective including @NeetCodeIO's interests. I think you fumbled a bit, Michael my brother. But maybe I'm just pointing that out to make excuses for myself, because I'm not carrying my boats. I do invest into the comfort stat. I don't want stress for sure. Unless it's something I choose because for a reason that seems good to me (fighting the good fight)
As a person going through some bad things mentally, I saw the amazon video a few months ago and decided on staying consistent with something which lifted my mood up a lot and it helped me regain some control. Although my situation was not as bad as yours but thanks for the advice neetcode.(sorry for bad english).
Please, please be sober, you need to just sit through the difficult times without help from anything and let your mind and body adjust to the current situations. Try not to form any addictions during that time. Wait for yourself calm down and reset. It might take minutes, hours, days, months but the best thing is to give yourself time to recover. Then slowly build yourself up again by doing small talks and grow back into the person you were without all the negative feelings. Above all do it as a natty, you will be set for life.
I'm so glad to see Prime react your video and you react to his reaction video. It was so exciting for me when I saw him clicking on your video in his reaction subreddit during his live stream (yes, I posted your video on that subreddit :D ) Both of you are my favorite TH-camr!
I get the obsession part. Sometimes it’s hard for me to do many things at once and succeed at them. But if I almost obsess about one thing then I succeed in it. And it’s also that I want to obsess in it, I think about it all day if I’m not doing it, and when I am, I’m happy to do it. So for me obsessing over it is good and helps me a lot. I don’t want to do anything else. This should be done while also having a healthy lifestyle though
This video by EastShade studio talks about how he built is first Indie game company after quitting his job. He pointed out a period during development where he'd obsess over his work to a point where everywhere he looked, he'd wonder "oh this could be in eastshade". Despite all financial difficulties, it seemed like a very happy and exciting point of his life. It made me feel happy just listening to it. Perhaps, you really got to love what you do to obsess over it in a "healthy manner".
I like Prime and I like you, but I think Prime was a bit too hard on you here. Or rather -- he was saying things that have worked for HIM and not necessarily understanding that different people have different needs. Like, me -- I refuse to stay in a hostile work environment. I know I can't be everyone's best friend, but if I walk into work and my stomach starts hurting because I hate it there -- real talk -- it's time to find something else. The world is not just one place -- and things CAN be better (it's a lie to think that the same thing will happen everywhere). There's the saying, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." Listening to Prime it sounds like the correct thing to do ALL THE TIME is to stay, tough is out and figure out a path forward at the job. And that is correct -- sometimes. Other times the best thing to do is LEAVE. Love and respect what you do, Neetcode. Let's go!!! :)
he literally said " stay for a bit, tough it out... then move on to another job if you need" not at all what you just typed for no reason, maybe listen better next time
Xue has a great question. Obsession over a subject can lead to success? Do you have to be obsessed? Well, the bigger the Dharma, the bigger the D. When you have kids, you're obsessed with treating your kids right. And that's what makes a parent successful. Obsession of doing the right choices. Yes, being overly obsessed is not healthy at all, both for a kid or the parent. But in a general perspective, the parent is obsessed with their kids. They literally call them their life, their purpose, if that's not obsession, what is? Same with every other aspect in life. See where @NeetCodeIO is coming from now? Obsession comes in different spectrums. It's not black or white. There's healthy obsession. And unhealthy obsession. Being obsessed with going to the gym or eating healthy food, I don't see it as something unhealthy unless it imposes unhealthy impacts on your mental health and daily life. Vegans are literally obsessed with ... not eating non-vegan food. That is their lifestyle, it's an obsession. Some vegans are overly obsessed to a point where they are unhealthy for them, for the whole vegan community and the rest of us. It's a spectrum, it's not black, nor white. You don't see CEOs not being overly obsessed with how their company is going that month, because if the company ain't doing good, their stakeholders are gonna be very angry. And who's going to hire a CEO who just had to fire and ruin many people's lives, company's assets, ruin stakeholders' money etc? They're obsessed with their company as much as anybody. You don't see good programmers not being obsessed with performance, with how their tools work, how everything under the hood works, and having good problem solving skills because they have solved that problem before, because they had to out of obsession. The last time a performance ticket was being abandoned on Jira because a co-worker got bored of it and couldn't make it, I took it out of obsession to prove that it's not that hard to just ... fix this performance issue. I even made a whole presentation for the thing and the whole team got a bonus that year for very good performance, it was my first year at the company, and I didn't even take a bonus because "at this company at first year you don't get bonus". Yes unfair. But it was that obsession that afterwards the manager of the other company saw and hired me from the consultancy company that had me working for them. Obsession to a healthy spectrum is what drives successfulness. You don't hear good guitarists not practicing every day. You don't hear good parents practicing how to be as good with how their children grow up every day as possible and not doing mistakes. You don't hear good programmers being good programmers without being obsessed with their job.
25:30 yes and no. If you want to get a stable job, you don't need to obsesse. It's all up to you. If you wan't to climb to the top of programmers, you need to give up everything, if not someone else will and grab that spot. It's more of how do you define success and how far do you want to go than if it's ok to obsesse about something.
Amazon does not fulfill its delivery promises. No supervisor at Amazon can change this. I've canceled my "membership" and recommend everyone else do the same.
I'm a late bloomer, trying to get hired at 37. I sat at the PC today and just couldn't code. Watched this video and was so inspired. I have watched your LeetCode videos, but never knew anything about you. You definitely earned my respect. Thanks for being genuine and real. That goes to @ThePrimeTimeagen too. Big fan. Everything is hard, if not at the beginning, then definitely eventually at some point. But if you can push through that, then you can't imagine how much different and rewarding your future will be. Much love
I like what you said that "If you stay at that place, you become worse that you are and then you stay worse!!" I know that and have experienced that. I stayed in my last job and i was just bunch of waste of time. I should have left earlier but i got lazy and I am paid heavy proce for that. Stilly paying it because that gone time is not gonna come back and i regreat it!!
I remember my first job after my undergrad, working in one of the Tier 1 banks in the US as a software engineer, my manager said quite a similar thing in the beginning, we have a production issue going on, and they are kind of busy at the moment.
I would caution people about taking psych advice from any compsci guy. Despite good intentions and maybe some right takes, probably go to a professional for stuff life this.
9:02 that is why you have to develope the art of do not care, the art of zero fucks to give, the company isn't going to crash down because you can't do shit, just forget about the stress, forget about the "I have to prove myself to the boss" forget about the "I don't wanna be fired" just focus on the first task, make your todo list for your every day, make your routine that will help you to stay on top of things, pick a wake up hour that allows you to read all the details that you are going to be asked in the stand up or meetings, and where you at on each of your stories, etc. stress is caused do to uncertainty so if you prepare your routine, your check list for the day and you know what you have to do, you will remove the uncertainty and you will move forward.
Hey, in regards to the cringe comments: 1 - You can have a friendship with a woman, I have one since 6th grade, I was best man in her wedding, we treat each other like brother and sister, nothing happened between us and never will. 2 - My wife was and still is one of the most important friends I ever had and our relationship changed naturally, we started like you guys having a lot of conversations about things of our lives, work, not only about "fun", we grew closer without noticing, so if it happens, it happens, just don't fool yourselves if one side is alone in how they feel. 3 - Don't bother answering those comments and putting text saying you're not together, people will be curious and inconvenient the more your channel grow.
i mean i kinda disagree with prime. yes you can grow through challenges, but like she said, there’s situations that you can come out better by cutting stuff off. cause things can make you worst off. if he went through all of that after 2 months, we’ll never know how better or worst off he would’ve been. and tbh, seeing where he is now, he did have to fight for it, and it seems like leaving at that time was the right choice. i’m sure prime went through a tough time, but everyones life experience isn’t equitable and straightforward as prime is making it seem
You are watching a video in which someone makes a comment about your video. Haha. If thePrimeagen watches this video again, it would result in a recursive loop of feedback going back and forth.
nah for sure the thing about training by failing is just not true. It's good to hear at best, and not even that for us cynical enough to jsut go "bro." I'd assume if there's something amazon is not short of is money, so they are fine with spending some money on HR and some interns just to try luck. That's pocket money to them. You would assume these companies make x10 the money they make, but they don't, cause they don't care, they just higher managers who say "don't ask questions" and that's good enough. Hi bro,
I have phone interview in few days for SDE role at Amazon. Can you give any tips?

Bhabhi ji ko pranam bolna 🙏
reacting to a reaction is too much noise. We have too much going on. Just react to the original please
honored to be here

Love you both. If I end up killing it on my Amazon internship interview this Monday, it’s because of you two
I hate one of you

Ah, we have you to thank for this experience.
Thank you 💪🏽
It's not cringe ... U taught newcomers a lesson... I'm also in this industry for 3+ yrs... Thanks bro ❤️

True, not everyone is the same and as long as there is introspection and positive growth, there's no need to play the "what if" game.

nah for sure the thing about training by failing is just not true. It's good to hear at best, and not even that for us cynical enough to jsut go "bro."
I'd assume if there's something amazon is not short of is money, so they are fine with spending some money on HR and some interns just to try luck. That's pocket money to them. You would assume these companies make x10 the money they make, but they don't, cause they don't care, they just higher managers who say "don't ask questions" and that's good enough. It's a shame because if only one of these companies decided to pay their employees proportionally and not dump their money on boiler plate roles or publicity every other company would raise the stakes as well and the world would become straight up richer.
Sorry guy but I don't think bad of of co-workers and they don't think bad of me. We actually care for each others. This guy is just projecting his own behaviour so he can rationalize it.
