I was annoyed that the state gave the Orioles $600 million, but at least part of the reason is that Camden is owned by the Maryland State Authority. But Busch is owned by the Cardinals. They can foot the entirety of the bill if they want improvements.

Fellow St. Louisian here. I agree with everything you said! So let's get this right, 2022 sell out every home game for the farewell tour with pujols and molina and then also sign a billion dollar contract with bally, drop players and make 1 significant signing in the 2023 season then make 1 significant signing this year and now you want the city to foot the bill because what someone can't manage money, the extra private jet needs new tires? If the city has to foot the bill then needs to b publicly owned since they are paying and let's see the books then let's find out why money is needed
The blues just got a massive upgrade, Enterprise is about 30 now. but the city actually owns the arena, so they had to buck up for some of it, but the Blues came in on them. CityPark was totally private, minus expenses for roads around it. but some were already being worked on for the new NGA facility, so they washed.
The Blues asked for donations and they easily raised the revenue within a year. It's easy to get money from the people who love the team when you ask politely and spend it on the team.
I'm a St.Louis native. No we should not give 600 million dollars for anything. Without any reason why or see what kind of updates are needed. It might be for phase 3 of ballpark village. But really they need to do some updates on the field play with the team 1st. It been a while since the cardinals won a world series!
This is really unfair of the Cardinals. They are asking for money from a city that doesn't have it when their fanbase is representing of many cities in several surrounding states. I think MLB needs to do what the NFL did with the Niners recently. Give them a loan for stadium upgrades.
@@tommybotts when the Niners got it from the league it was at a lower rate than a bank and there was no prepayment penalty. It's like people who get loans from family instead of the bank.
To be fair, The Cardinals and the Dewitt family have done A LOT to revitalize downtown St. Louis. Ballpark village and Busch Stadium bring in a lot of traffic that otherwise would NOT be there. However, it’s becoming really frustrating when the Cardinals organization seems unwilling to change their ways. If they were still winning championships or at least contending every single season it’d be one thing to ask for public funding, but they aren’t. They’ve done the bare minimum to just win their crappy division for basically a decade.
To add a casino ! Missouri is going to put the sports gambling on the ballot in November and the Cardinals want to cash in with a casino either at ballpark village or add it to the Stadium.
St Louis City is NOT a part of the County. If the City can’t fund the stadium then it has to turn to the State. I think ownership is asking for its grab of state funds before it all goes to KC.
Both KC and STL want money to add a casino to the stadiums or ballpark village. You realize that sports gambling will be on the ballot in November in Missouri?
I go to about 15-20 Cardinals games a year and baffled that they are wanting to do this. The stadium is great and not needing any work done...I feel this money should go more towards building the team itself tbh
Brodie, get in the game ! These sports teams are asking for money to set up Sports gambling in or around their stadiums. Missouri will vote on sports gambling in November, KC and STL is getting their ducks in a row for legalization of sports gambling. Why do you think the Raiders and A's are moving to Vegas ? @@wandtvdougwolfe1 It isn't rocket science, what do people think all these teams are wanting public money and the add sports gambling, are people blind ?
I'm highly skeptical about downtown being improved by Busch 3 and Ballpark Village. Sure, Busch and BV do well, but everything around it (outside of parking) is dead. If anything, it seems like BV killed all the mom & pap bars and restaurants. If the city of STL wants to revitalize the area, buy the vacant lots around Busch and offer small business loans/grants to inject some non-corporate local flavor to make STL a genuinely unique experience worth traveling to 365 days/year. Having people come directly to Busch and giving all their money to the Dewitts is not revitalizing downtown.
The Dewitts want this money to build a casino either added to the stadium or Ballpark Village. The sports gambling will be on the ballot in November and KC and STL are looking to add revenue by sports gambling.
@@AV57 The DeWitts aren't hiding this ! What do you think will take 600 million to renovate to renovate at Busch 3 or Ballpark Village ? This whole thing may be part of a plan by DeWitt to move the team. First, he puts together a team that stinks, and attendance goes down. Then he asks for $600 million in upgrades. When he is turned down for that he can claim he has to move the team because attendance is down and he can’t get the upgrades he needs to stay in St. Louis. Just one opinion. Time will tell if I’m right. I sincerely hope ai am wrong on this one.

Don't you get it ? It's about sports gambling. Look at all the teams wanting upgrades all of the sudden, it's about putting gambling in their stadium or Ballpark Village. The sports gambling referendum will be up to vote on in November in Missouri, why do you think KC and STL is looking to add casinos to their Stadiums or just adjacent to it. No and helll no, they generate tons of cash! More than their cheap asses are asking for. I get it, yes all the money they make and have made is tied up in other investments, but pay for it yourselves Cardinals! I prefer watching the games from home where the beer and food is cheap!
I couldn’t even fathom the thought of the Cardinals leaving St. Louis, MLB would probably step in if it ever reached that point. It’d be like moving the Packers from Green Bay.
This isn't about moving , it's about sports gambling. They want the money so there can be on site sports gambling at the stadium or Ballpark Village. Both KC and STL is getting ready for sports gambling to be voted in Missouri in November and these teams want to get a jump on it !
St. Louis, owned by yet another trust fund baby billonaire. But at least this one knows what a baseball looks like...Okay, so I've argued this ad infinitum, that the local governments who are bought into pro sports facilities should and must charge a set aside tax for future maintenance - on top of whatever sales and/or seat taxes they already charge. So let's use the Cardinals' 40,000 average attendance. A set aside of $10 per ticket gives you $400k per game, at 82 home games it gives you $32.8m per season, and at years 10, 20, and 30 you get $328m, $656m, and $984m respectively. This, combined with the investment value of the money held in a fiduciary controlled escrow account with compounded interest should cover any kind of maintenance needed, up to and including a rebuild...This does not happen because these entitled owners will bitch, and carp, and threaten to move if they have to share ANY part of their ticket sales with the Great Unwashed (meaning we the public). And yet they are none too shy about any kind of scheming from planting rumors to outright extortion to get into the public's back pocket...This horseracing model of pro sports ownership, billionaires (fake or real) with egos a lot bigger than their pockets, are destabilizing and ruining all of sports. Look at the Green Bay Packers, folks. They ain't goin' anywhere. They will always be competitive. They will always be answerable to the people that own them - their public stockholders. That is the way that pro sports should be...MLB is in a mode of abject failure. The Monforts are next in Colorado - bank on it. And now that Peter Seidler is gone, odds are that the Padres rollercoaster will start up again in San Diego. I would suggest that the voting public in each baseball market that feels sompelled to do so, put a pre-emptive question or iniative on their ballots saying either, yes or no, we will or will not finance a public stadium for a private sports enterprise, now or in the future. Answer the question before it even gets asked. Force MLB and all the other leagues to plan responsibly and self-sufficiently. If not they will be like the 28 year-old post-grad whose mother comes to campus everyday to let him suckle her teat...
How about this " STL gives us 600 million for a casino to bring in more revenue for the city of STL and Missouri. " It's no secret that the Dewitts want to build a casino at Ballpark Village because Missouri is going to vote in sports gambling in November. If STL and Missouri are going to benefit from a casino revenue , shouldn't they pay for it. KC is doing the same thing for the Chiefs and Royals, these teams know sports gambling is coming to Missouri and they want in on it !

No and helll no, they generate tons of cash! More than their cheap asses are asking for. I get it, yes all the money they make and have made is tied up in other investments, but pay for it yourselves Cardinals! I prefer watching the games from home where the beer and food is cheap!
As a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan who doesn’t live in Missouri. Give them anything they want.
America's fascination with constant expensive upgrades to buildings and facilities.
God that's such a boring city and a boring stadium and a boring team
I just went for the first time yesterday. As an outside, I’m curious to know why the hell it needs an upgrade? The stadium is gorgeous
they want to add a casino, sports gambling will be voted in Missouri in November.
