- So... you're staring at the MechAssault mech selection for the first time, having no idea what any of the names mean and wondering what's competitive and what isn't. You may be wondering why so many people choose certain mechs like the Ragnarok, yet the poor Raven right next to it never sees any actual play. Wonder no more. All these questions will be answered here as I give an introductory breakdown of every mech's best role in MechAssault.
Welcome to my first 'high quality' video ever, it does pretty much what the title says.
If you've already played this game for a while this'll probably be nothing new, but to the new people here it'll hopefully help them figure out what they like.

Man, I'm in the verge of digging out my Xbox and playing the game again. I used to play this game and was pretty good
Man i absolutely slaughtered with the catapult back in the day
The Catapult is very powerful, despite its size and cons. I ended up destroying 288 mechs on Grinder in River City with the Catapult.
I just tested out all the mechs last night in survival mode and replayed the campaign. The levels are fun enough that it makes me wish so badly we could replay them with our choice of mech. NewGame+ kind of options would have me absorbed constantly in this game, lol.
There is mods for Xbox emulator to do just that, plus extra lives, and tons more.

I have all the Battletech novels and played Mechcommander and Mechwarrior series,you should read the novels to get a good feel for the universe
I've done a little digging into BT lore but not much, mostly just around the mechs because that's what interests me.@@fabianmok2206
man for 2001 the graphics still hold up it still a very good looking game, i wish i didnt give away my mech 1 and 2 physical copies man i was a young fool. its a good game.
grinder is the only unique survival mode for mech games, mech4 has waves but you cant make them change like in grinder mode. grinder is pretty innovative for its time and the maps look beautiful
for the atlas i thought it was iron man when it was red 💀
i think these mechs are very cool and i would like if they were made into action figures and model kits :3

Grew up playing this, would give everything up just to play co op survival online 😔
@Knight-Sgt. Reyes I had to uninstall that mod because the foot animation noises gave me sensory exhaustion. So much clatter for turning two degrees left 😩 Other than that, I definitely had my fun with watching 40ft tall iron giants sweep the battlefield in all their destructive glory.

dam...yall beating me to this idea Dx looking forward to the full/in-detail video guides for each mech though; mine's definitely gonna take a looooong ass time. I finished the script to part 2 in my video series at the beginning of May...although recording my commentary and footage i'm just trying to muster the time and energy for, as well as edit all of it together >.>
Yknow Bigta1k and I are doing a collaboration video with that, he was just the other day saying he may want to bring some other people in. You may want to ask him, I'd be on board with it.

how the heck do you have 60fps im locked at 30?!
The video was recorded at 30, maybe I rendered at 60? It is possible to make the emulator run at 60 fps but none of us really use it because it's unstable and crashes a lot.
I have this for the Crmu emulator, can tweak the res way fucking high. Runs great looks great. Such a perfect great game.
I use xemu, can get it running well enough during 3x resolution. So happy XBOX emulation is consistently improving.

I thought about it before, thing is the mechs in mech 2 are very situational per map and a general guide like this wouldn't apply as well. Also, I can't record mech 2 so, sorry no.

One thing I've been wondering since I've been getting into Battletech lore lately is is the Ragnarok in Battletech or is it a Mechassault exclusive mech?
The Ragnarok is strictly a MechAssault thing. There's actually very little information on it other than the fact that it was stupidly OP because it was created with tech from a hidden cache of Lostech.
Man as a Mechwarrior/Battletech guy thid gamr always seemed wacky to me. I picked up a copy a bit ago at a local store, I'll give it a try sometime.
My two favorite mechs are the Vulture and the Ragnarok

Does Bowman do more damage if it's all the way charged?
I'm not sure I know what you're asking, all weapons do more damage when leveled up. If you're asking about the random damage stacking, what we've termed 'critical hits' they do more damage at higher levels but I'm not sure if the chance for them to happen is higher. I may be wrong, someone can correct me, but I don't think the chance of it happening changes.
Or do you mean if the clock in the reticule is all the way full? In that case no, it's just a delay timer.
The hellbringer is not DLC. At least for console players. You don’t get the raven though until the second.
That's for mech 2. In mech 1 the Hellbringer and Raven was released later as DLC.
Mechassault 1 it was DLC along with Loki, its variant. Corvus and Raven were also DLC as well.
MechAssault 2 however all four of these mechs are playable from the get go depending on what maps you find them in.

We play online via a service called Xlink Kai, which is basically system link through the internet. You can play on an OG Xbox (ideal) or an emulator. If you're interested check out the MechAssault Reborn server, we have regular gamenights there.

I wasn't planning on it to be honest. #1, In MA2 it's map/game-type dependent. #2, I don't have a way to record MA2 so... thanks for the suggestion but it probably won't be out soon, if ever.
after playing mech assault 2 and bein a clan wolf fan boy I'm kinda upset about the names of the mechs especially the Timberwolf..... Like is it that hard to just call it what it is?

Yep, we have a small but vibrant community going. We play on a regular basis and continue to mod the game to this day.

Two reasons why I respectfully decline that; first I don't like mech 2, and second, since mechs are set by map they are highly situational. There's no 'average' matchup it's always dependent on team comp. and gamemode, which would make a simple overview like this impossible.

In vanilla definitely. The Ragnarok almost equal, the Bowman is not quite as OP but is definitely frustrating to play against as once it gets a streak going it's really hard to stop.
new fans? i thought you cant get this game on anything but original xbox?
Nowadays we have emulators that run on PC, and software that lets us link together for online games. Although a mudded Xbox is still the ideal I'd say the majority of people coming in nowadays do use emulation.
Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries is better
Honestly I think of them as two different things. I don't see one as 'better' just different. I like them for two different playstyles.
