Sonic's Biggest MISSED Opportunity...

Sonic Generations is a game I love dearly, as it's my favorite sonic game of them all. However there is one thing about the game that I really feel should have been done better, that being the game's lack of content. This along with other things could have been entirely improved and fixed with dlc, it's just too bad Generations never got any.

I surprisingly agree with this. Sonic Generations had so much potential for DLC. We could've gotten so many levels brought back like Ice Cap Zone or maybe Aquarium Park (my personal picks). The DLC wouldn't be canon to the main timeline, but that doesn't mean that this shouldn't have happened. I would've liked to see a Sonic CD stage like maybe Metallic Madness since Stardust Speedway was kind of taken by the Metal Sonic rival fight. For a Dreamcast Era level, I would've liked to see Red Mountain or possibly Crazy Gadget. For the Modern Era, I'd like to see Savannah Citadel or Starlight Carnival. If we do get any DLC or a possible remaster, I'd like to see them add at least one new stage in each era. The biggest problem with this game is that it lacks content, but there is so much potential for DLC stages that it kind of disappoints me that they didn't go through with the idea.

Sonic Generations was planned to have more DLC.
Around a year or two ago I got to see rafaknight (a 3D modeler who has worked with sega and Archie for a decade at this point) talk about what happened behind the scenes. From my memory, it has to due with mismanagement and the loss of team members who worked on the game.
It’s very clear that the team who worked on generations are no longer in the current one for frontiers, hopefully frontiers does something different.

A lot of the level designers behind Unleashed and Generations were nicked by Nintendo after Gens was released, and I believe they went on to work on Odyssey. It's likely why ST abruptly decided to change Sonics formula again in Lost World and why Forces turned out so tepid and bland.

The transfer of Sonic Team devs to Nintendo is GREATLY exaggerated. No level designers left for Nintendo, it was actually mostly field artists and the like. Key people that were responsible for games like Unleashed and Generations did leave SEGA, but not for Nintendo. The director of Unleashed for example, left to go to Square Enix and then founded his own company after that.

No. The amount of assets to create and design a new level and sell it for $5 wouldn't make sense for Sega. It'd have to be $8-$10 to make sense but that's a rip off to the consumer.

Generations really did need dlc stages. One thing that I complained about the game is that the stage variety was kinda lacking. Even though they chose the most voted stages for the game, the problem was that almost all of the stages were city related.

I think they still had those devs at the time. It was either the Unleashed or Generations director that worked on the Mario and Sonic Sochi 2014 game.

I have several times and my conclusion is the same, the boost here is worse than generations but the levels have a different design philosophy that makes them really fun to play. However the werehog is pretty boring and uninteresting to me, the hub worlds are average, and the tornado levels are pretty mediocre
