Technically, Metallica formed in 1981 when Lars (drummer) and James (guitarist & singer) met. But they technically existed to the public on June 14, 1982 when their song "Hit the Lights" appeared on the Metal Massacre compilation album (where their name was misspelled as "Mettallica"). Their album debut was a year later with Kill 'Em All on July 25, 1983. So, the band is over 40 years old. And the guys in the band are all over 60 or turning 60 this year.

Yup sometime in November 1981. I use to have a few anniversary shirts were the date is written on.

Metallica has been around since October of 1981, so 42 years. I just saw them play live in Phoenix with my guitar teacher on their current tour for their latest album, "72 Seasons". Thye have been playing different sets on two nights containing a mix of songs from previous albums as well as some songs from the latest album.
"72 Seasons came out of a book I was reading about childhood, basically, and sorting out childhood as an adult. And 72 seasons is basically the first 18 years of your life. How do you evolve and grow and mature and develop your own ideas and identity of self after those first 72 seasons?
"Some things are more difficult than others - you know, some things you can't unsee and they're with you for the rest of your life, and other things you're able to rewind the tape and make a new tape in your life. So that's the real interesting part for me, is how you're able to address those situations as an adult and mature." - James Hetfield "Papa Het" on the inspiration as well as the meaning behind the name for the latest album.
"Spit Out the Bone" is also the last song from their previous album, "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct".

Rob and James are both singing. The deeper voice doing back up and occasionally other lines of lyrics is rob im quite positive. Partially i think done to give more power to the vocals when live and also because rob has a cool voice too.

Thanks for nice reaction video. Here are few recommendations to go for. I pick up some live versions to try, as you seem to enjoy them. These will give nice mix of some of their musical skills and variety. I hope to see more of these reactions, thanks!
    - Fade to Black. Heavy and beautiful ballad with deep sad message, one of their classics. For example live from Brazil 2022 is some nice recent version of this.
    - Master of Puppets. This is concidered on of the best pieces in heavy metal genre, legendary. Fast and electric, with deep message in lyrics too.
Manchester 2019 show is good option as live, watch them doing their stuff in hard rain.
    - One. Classic reaction song in youtube. Also has good changes and transitions of different types of feelings, and tells very tragic story. Has many good live shows, for example Ireland 2019 is a good recent choice.
    - Battery, live from Seattle 1989. One of their fastest songs, example of their trash style when they were still young.
    - And Justice For All. Angry song, which has strong lyrics commenting on society. Seattle 1989 show is again an amazing choice.
    - The Day that Never Comes, Live from Quebec Magnetic show.
    - For Whom the Bell Tolls, absolutely the Cliff'Em All -version. This one shows their old basist, Cliff Burton, who died in tour bus accident early in their career. But he was very talented bass player, as you can see from intro in this song.
    - Seek and Destroy, live from Quebec Magnetic. Quite funny show this one.
Plus many more amazing songs and performances.
