Gill is one of the characters that, it's sad they died too early to learn about them, but at the same time it was important for the next book, and I think it's a somewhat important plot point for Tsunami. I'm glad we got a flashback with him in Book 9 to flesh him out a bit more, and he's one of the characters that you don't think about often, but then when you do, you want to see a Winglet of them
Yeah, I definitely understand why Tui killed him off. However, I'd love to see more of his past. A Winglet about how Coral and Gill met and fell in love would be awesome! It could even talk about Gill's time in the arena and his descent into madness.
@@Dogloverlikesdoge Basically a Winglet with sad ending where by the end Gill give in into insanity due the thirst? I'll be honest it will probably scare someone and have same emotional impact as book of Darkstalker by the end, heh.
Gill spent his entire rule trying to do what was best for everyone, but he never got the results he had hoped for. He did everything he could to protect his unhatched daughters from the unknown monster that was murdering them. He assigned trusted guards 24/7 outside, checked the eggs frequently, and stayed alert. But he would always end up finding the female eggs destroyed just as the dragonet inside was about to hatch. During the SandWing War, he worked out a plan to potentially end the fatal struggle without more bloodshed. But he was robbed of that dream by an unknown force of dragons who had been playing the pieces and no one bothered to help him salvage it. His wish was shattered right before his eyes as he tried desperately to keep it together. But it was out of his control and his allies chose vengeance over forgiveness. When he was captured by Queen Scarlet, he refused to fight anyone in her arena battles, knowing full well he was risking his own life in doing so. And for a while, it actually worked. His opponents backed down with him and he managed to keep himself alive without staining his own talons with another dragon’s blood. But he was living in a world that simply didn’t allow mercy. At least not for him. At least not then. He was starved and dehydrated for trying so hard to be merciful, and ultimately deprived of all sanity. Maybe his morals and kind nature were drowned out by the desperate will to survive and the unimaginable pain he endured. Or maybe he simply had enough of trying to be a hero in a world full of greed, and he just finally reached his breaking point. And so he died doing what he had always stood against: inflicting pain on others without remorse. Gill did everything right. He always chose peace, he cared for those around him, and he never gave up. But despite his best efforts, it was never enough. He couldn’t save a single one of his daughters, he couldn’t end the war peacefully, and he couldn’t escape the SkyWing queen’s arena. He tried over and over to do the right thing no matter how many times he failed before, but he just couldn’t succeed with using peace. Pyrrhia simply just didn’t want to be saved yet. All of his heroics… had been for nothing.
I don’t think wings of fire is a kids series literally drinking your own blood to survive,killing someone as a child , snapping your fathers neck,falling into lava,chocking out your blood, wow a kids series indeed
So, the idea of Scarlet knowing Gill and Tsunami were related isn't possible. Gill wasn't born into the royal SeaWing family, he married into it. So he doesn't have the patterns on his wings. Only Tsunami and her other family members do.
Well, regardless of my error, she knew she had imprisoned the SeaWing king. I'd bet that Scarlet knows about the SeaWing royal pattern, since she would probably have studied Coral and her family as much as possible. Plus, it's not too hard to tell that her wing pattern is entirely different.
Gill may have had his flaws as for how his anger affected Turtle, but in his defense he did think he had failed to protect his sisters and his friend, as soon as he found out it wasn’t his fault he instantly felt guilty and regretful and was going to tell him the truth and that he was sorry. So I’d say he was a great king, husband, and father. R.I.P his sanity and his life, he will be missed
Tui didn't know Gill was Tsunami's father?! That's crazy! And really good on her part to make that connection in setting up Tsunami's character arc. I loved your analysis of grief and its impacts too - great video!
Thank you! And yeah, Tui revealed that she didn't even know Gill was Tsunami's father. It was an element she added into The Lost Heir, and fit in surprisingly well. It was just as much of a surprise to her as it was to us!
Gill is a good character and I wished he didn’t die and ended up living to actually have time with his family. Although he is a good character I did not like when he yelled at Turtle when he didn’t really let turtle explain . When he went with Tempest to meet with Blister he actually felt bad for tempest when she died and mourned for her. I feel like Tempest should have survived though because she seemed like she would change a lot in the series :(. All in all Gill is a better character than most or some dragons in the series so he can get mad but actually notice what he did wrong at the end (Ex. With Turtle) Maybe if Gill survived in the Arena or if he killed Tsunami instead would he see his family again, it makes me feel sad for him :(. Awesome vid btw! I love every how you explain their backstories and add more details to hook the watcher in ! Have a good day/night!
Gill is most definitely an interesting Wings of Fire. And like many other characters are forgotten. And Poor Turtle I am sure Gill didn't mean it he was just mad about it, but it's no excuse. And we can add him to the "need a Winglet" list. That's why I sympathies Turtle because of his poor life.
Gill could've been such an interesting character it's a shame he died only in the first book. I also think that the trauma that he caused Turtle is disturbing. I couldn't imagine being in Turtle's position. Gill really shows what grief and sorrow can do to person/dragon.
This is just another example of how Wings of Fire has the same effect as people saying "Avatar is a kids show". Maybe there could be some sort of multi-POV book like Legends: Darkstalker on Gill and a couple of other dragon fathers (like Char and Malachite) or just something on the dragon kings of each of the Pyrrhian tribes (save for RainWings and MudWings). The dragon kings are almost never talked about. Besides Gill and Char, our knowledge of them is basically zero. P.S. If the Wings of Fire Netflix show wasn't cancelled, I'm confident it could've reached Avatar: The Last AirBender levels
A father Winglet would be pretty awesome! I've never thought about it before. We don't see many male POVs in the series, so it would be interesting. It could center around the different kings and their lives, or even just regular WoF fathers.
I've got some ideas What if Stonemover never put the stone scales enchantment on himself? What if Kestrel threw Peril, into the river instead of Sky? What if the IceWings never lost their animus magic? What if Blaze became the queen? I hope you like these ideas!
2nd comment you should do a discussion sky 1. What is your opinion on perils sibling sky. 2. How did sky tie in to the main plot of arc three. In my opinion your videos are awesome and you could probably make something out of this.
in book 14 in the glacial pov visision she said she would step down as queen if 1 of her dauthers challanged her for the throne so i wonder would coal do the same
As far as I'm aware, she didn't tell anybody. It would make sense if she told one person in her life (like Starflight because she knew he wouldn't judge her), but I don't know of anyone
Gill was a bystander. He never told Coral that she was being an awful mother, and never truly did anything for his sons. He just kept on going with Coral. They should’ve killed some of their sons, too, because their life on Phyrria was awful. Also, could you make an AU where the statue of Orca killed all of the royal dragonets?

Do you think anyone knows Tsunami killed her own father? There's a hint in book 4 Star flight might know, we never see Tsunami tell anyone.
