Honolulu City and County life guard went out and beat all the pros lol
Winning while on the clock lol Congratulations Luke
That wave feels like the embodiment of Eddie would go. Huge, closeout and scary.. still he'd go for the hell of it!
Right winner imo 💪
One thing I noticed about Luke Shepherdson, is when the biggest sets were marching in, he caught them outside the ledge where it was not so vertical and he rode them with smooth control, a solid style, and excellent judgement. Nevermind the long ride to the shore break hail Mary. He was focused more on the biggest feathering walls out to sea, and riding them really well. He was clearly ruling with good style.
What a legend! Secured his place in history, with his legendary performance, at one of, if not the most legendary event. Not to mention doing it old school, with the absence of any impact/flotation vest/suit. Crazy to think about, when you hear some of the hardest charging big wave guys, talk about how they can’t imagine being without them nowadays. It must bring some level of security, in such an extremely vulnerable situation.
This is true and he definitely surfed the biggest waves with the most control, but I was surprised judges didnt care about the whole "Steep, deep and underneath" thing. If you airdrop or not, if the wave isnt the biggest of the day, you arent winning...

Congrats champ!
Lifeguard went out & won. Not only that in a way hes a hero for saving ppl lives when on the job. Congrats Luke!!
I saw Waimea when it was closed out, all white. It was a fearsome sight and the thundering of the waves was kind of scary. I saw this from the overlooking bluff, where the heiau is, because I lived way up Pupukea Homestead Road. And yet, my first experience surfing was at Waimea, when it was a lot smaller!
Unreal!🔥🔥🔥
The force was with him
Huge respect to all Eddie competitors. And congrats to Luke, absolutely charging on that fearsome wave. Worthy winner.
Haven't seen all results, must've been close between Luke and Mark Healey.
Eddie would go...and so would Luke! Nicely done, congrats.
We appreciate the life guards and so does the ocean! Enjoy the gift brudda! What a privilege to watch this live in South Africa - thanks!
Wow,,,, looks like big fun. ..

He charged for sure but I thought Healey would have gotten the W today
Luke and Healey were pretty much neck and neck, imo. Insane to watch
