    Justin Sledge is the host of the popular Esoterica channel, devoted to an academic and historical approach to kabbalah, gnosticism and other religious and occult topics. It is less well known that he is also a committed Marxist and knowledgeable about continental theory (Bataille, Deleuze, Meillassioux etc). The focus of our discussion is the relationship between esotericism and materialist critical theory (he insists that there is none), but we discuss other topics like the practice of doing philosophy and pedagogy online as well as his love of black metal (he’s a Liturgy fan).
    Justin is an extremely important contemporary philosopher in my view. His channel isn’t just the best source of esotericism content on TH-cam, it is like several orders of magnitude better than any other. The range of his knowledge amazes me, and recently he’s begun to promote Cordavero’s (rather than the better known Lurianic) approach to Kabbalah. I hope more people begin to produce this level of content online (or anywhere).

    Loved this conversation! Justin is one of my favorite content creators in the academic study of religion space. If you’re looking for others to have on the channel, it would be cool to see you talking to some of the other creators in that sphere, such as Filip Holm from let’s talk religion or Zevi Slavin from seekers of unity.
    On the political economy front, Cordelia Belton is someone I find really interesting in the sort of post-Althusser Marx reading space.

    Best crossover episode! I think I remember Dr. Sledge mentioning being a fan of Liturgy at some point, which makes it even cooler that you had this conversation!

    lines are theoretical;
    fractals are where the fair's at;
    therapy always opposed with wounding;
    and vice versa;
    the emotions suck relentlessly;
    conscious and subbed;
    always at the same time(s){S}

    i would imagine the highest level philosophers that currently exist (thoughtforms included) are able to appreciate this post modern mass produced-feely esoteric parable that encapsulates and delineates all most important critiques able to be given to all of you all individually packaged (cause you are all very special... obviously) to rapidly unshittify this countryside that turned into an unending field of unremarkable gg lories.

    Its worthwhile to consider the events that sparked the current constellation of world religions - they were overturnings of older gods that were seen as corrupt, by the philosophically literate.. Moses, Christ, Mohammed, they articulated/ elaborated ideas of universality against the clandestine editices of thought of their times.. they edified themselves in due course. But they originate at sites of struggle, persecution. That leads to deeper searching. That searching is like weaving an ethical fabric. Maybe even a gradual recognition of the immaterial fabric of reality, which could be god by another name

    Nice podcast! A bit long, but listening time well spent. The music of Hildegard von Bingen might interest you. And the mysticism of Paul Celan. Sledge was a great interview partner. He might be a hard act to follow. When in Cologne you should visit the Dom. A great spiritual location. Let me know if you need support. Will see you at the concert, I hope.

    I think we should rewind to the Omega of Ancient Egypt and keep sacrifices to the Internet while structuring them to benefit this collaborative process of deciphering the extra-terrestrial (it's time to draw on the dome!)
