as a 14 y/o girl with adhd and autism, learning to crochet about a month ago was the best decision i’ve ever made. it’s the only thing i think about and it makes me so happy to finally feel like i have a personality but most of all to learn a skill that makes me feel good and keeps my brain entertained. i swear i’m addicted!! so far within less than a month i’ve made a cardigan, a sweater, a tank top, wrapped my charger (vine charger trend), and made two pairs of fingerless gloves (one for my sister that was all black, and a colorful one for me based off of the kit gloves from coraline). i thought it would just be another hyperfixation, but i can genuinely see myself sticking to this, as it also doubles as a pretty good coping mechanism!!
As a 22 year old with adhd and autism, I feel the same way!! The low risk/high reward process (it's easy to start over from mistakes w/o needing to buy more materials), the endless possibilities of stuff to make, and the repetitive nature of it relaxes me so much. I love being able to pick up a project and feel accomplished. Solidarity with you friend!! Sending lots of love!
4:50 just don't, roving is not yarn, it will just turn into a mess as the roving pulls apart, because the fibres are shorter than those stitches and it attracts all the dirt, and it can't really be washed, because it can turn stiff and become felted if you're lucky, if not you just have chunks of felted unusable roving.
I’m so happy to see so many young people knitting and crocheting! It’s far less time consuming (and often cheaper) to buy something mass-produced, but there is nothing better than handmade :)
I'm only just now finding that crochet and knitting are trending. Its nice to see more people getting into it. It's a great destresser. My mom taught me to crochet and I'm trying to teach myself to knit. I'm in my early 20s currently working on a temperature blanket that I started in 2017.
What she didn't show you is that that roving blanlet disintegrated, gathered dirt like a magnet and can't be washed. Don't use roving, it is not yarn and it is not meant to be used like it.
Me: oh my gosh I should make a blanket with a million multicolored hexagons Also me: if I have to weave in more than five ends I will throw myself in the garbage with my project
Decided to make my daughter a rainbow blanket for her full sized bed and bought all the yarn. One row takes 20 minutes LORD HELP ME I HAVE MADE A MISTAKE 😭
I have never used more than one yarn in a project but I haven't done much crotchet. I blame that on the fact that the only person I know in my family who knows crotchet instead of only knitting is long gone and otherwise I only know a froend of my mother who has some crotchet experience but no real ability to talk with her about it.
Wow, that granny square blanket at 1:55 is amazing! Also pretty cool to see the clock in the background and how long it took her to piece everything together.
@Alina Alina Any kind of Super Chunky or Chenille yarn should work fine - they're super soft and plush and give projects like this lots of volume without too much weight. Plus they're machine washable in most cases. Hope this helps!
The chunky yarn is awesome to do it with, but people using wool roving to make hand-knit blankets hurts my soul (not to mention this is a crochet compilation but THAT ISNT CROCHET)...y'all do realise that it felts in a lumpy and uneven mess within weeks right? Make awesome big blankets BUT MAKE THEM WITH BIG YARN, not something that will ruin your hard work
@@marnoon wool roving is yarn that hasn't been spun. It is very fragile if you crochet it. If you crochet or knit something with it, it will literally fall apart. Plus, it's so expensive that you'd be a lot better off using thick yarn. I would hate to see someone spend all of that time and money on making a blanket that won't survive longer than a month. Loved the video though!
i agree, that will literally fall apart in a few weeks. yarn like that has very little fiber memory and especially hand knit blankets leaves a loose tension that will eventually felt the blanket and make it fall apart into just a bundle of sad yarn lol. better much invest in big, jumbo yarn!
@@marnoon that's not the problem, the problem is people thinking they can use roving like they use yarn. You can't. It's going to disintegrate, get dirty as hell, and look horrible very quickly. It's like cotton candy.
Are there no washing/ironing instructions on yarns in your country? 😨 I just had to grab a yarn and yes, there was the washing lable and all, cotton, delicate 60, no chemical wash, no bleach, dry horizontally, iron on two dots and I don’t remember what the P stands for but I have no means to do it anyway.
I love blanket editions!! I sincerely hope that whomever you made the blanket for, whether it be for yourself or someone else, is proud of all the hard work that went into it. Bravo to all for a job well done.
I made my dog a baby blanket. I love how she snuggles up in it. It taught me a lot of patience and it was very relaxing once you got the hang of it. I want to make another one 😫
I love making blankets the most with crochet because, depending on the pattern, it can be an enjoyable challenge. Right now, for the holiday season, I'm working on recreating the magic carpet from Aladdin (cartoon, not live-action) for my dad because that's his favorite movie. Using the corner to corner method works best for that kind of thing.
People finger knitting with roving hurts my soul. Even chunky roving yarns, I spent $300+ on a bunch of chunky hand dyed roving yarn and make a sweater with it and it fucking sucked. It just pilled and matted and felted and got dirty, and it's not even warm to wear outside like people think, because the stitches are so big that the air just passes through the spaces in between the stitches. So please for the love of god use a felted roving, get a thick PLYED or even chenille (however you spell that) yarn, or hold yarn together if you want to make a chunky project. I took mine apart to hopefully make something else with the yarn, but I feel like there's no hope LOL
I've been crocheting for 6 years now, and I've never had the patience to make a full sized blanket. I've done an afghan 4 years ago, but I've never weaved in the ends...😂
Before getting new yarn, check out estate sales, thrift shops, garage/yard sales, and other second hand places. You might find all sorts of fun gems, and it helps cut down on all of the plastic being used!
So glad this exists bc i got the big blanlet yarn and tried making a blanket with single crochets and it was just way too thick but now i guess its time to get back into knitting and carpal tunnel :')
this video inspired me to make four more projects even though I have like eight unfinished ones just watching me start a baby blanket for my neighbors new born baby in spite of not saying a word to them the day we moved here
I've been crocheting for around 4 years, two years knitting before that (I'm still a teen btw) and this is my first time ever making an afghan. It's called the Old World Fisherman by Melissa Leapman (found the pattern in a book I got for Christmas) and I just started, so far I've made nine rows. Learned a bunch of new stitches too! But then I realized that the pattern is 238 rows and I'm still a student, gahhh wish me luck!

Ok so apparently you should NOT make the blanket at 1:49 because it will just attract all sorts of dirt and if you wash it it will destroy your washing machine. Spindles have a much lower starting cost for anyone trying to get into spinning, 5$ for the simplest kind I could never sit still fot long enough to spin on a spinning wheel but my spindle moves with me and you can get pretty fast with a spindle

I'm planning on making a blanket for my mom because when mothers day came we really didn't do anything but get her a card and spent time with her but I wanted to do more 🌼

The blanket is about 5'1 long and it took almost 1 year(mainly because I started to procrastinate and take month long breaks from knitting so really it took only 2-4 weeks).
