As mentioned at the end of yesterday's video ( • Autistic Teenager's FI... ), the second day of our London trip was ruined by Amy getting robbed outside The Rainforest Cafe on Shaftesbury Avenue, Central London as we were heading for dinner. She was obviously very shaken up by the whole thing, and we ended up with a double problem as of course this incident disrupted all of the plans we'd been preparing Andy with all week, and he ended up having a meltdown while I was on the phone to the police. On the whole, not a great night...

ABOUT KEVIN CHAPMAN
I'm a 37 year old TH-camr from the UK. I've got a cracking beard and I'm currently going through the autism diagnosis process. I started this channel back in 2017 and by the time I left my full-time job as a Computer Science teacher in July of that year, my partner Anna was trapped in our house by our son Andy, who is autistic and had refused to go to school for 18 months. Our daughters Lucy and Amy and our dog Dave hardly saw me because I was always working to try and solve all our problems! Today I'm a full-time content creator and always at home when the kids get home from school (all our kids!) and Anna has been able to return to university. Genuinely crying over Amy.
Having a panic attack is never something you need to feel bad about, you were not overreacting. It's a natural reaction to thinking someone was attacking you. Lucy did amazing to stay calm and comfort Amy.
Kev did really well managing to help his distressed daughter, whilst dealing with the police and trying to help Andy through all the stress.

Last words for Amy; don't be scared this might happen again. It probably wont. Never ever let this accident ruin you going out and do stuff anywhere you want. You did good lady!

I'm so sorry, and I hope that Amy is ok. I had exactly the same thing happen to me on that very road in practically the same place, luckily I never have my phone in my pocket (I'm an untrusting Londoner) so they didn't steal it. but it was still so violating and really shook me... For anyone who visits London especially in and around China Town please remember to keep your phone and valuables out of easy access, I always have a small bag that I keep inside my coat that I use especially when I know I'm in those ends!
Sorry this happened to Amy. Lucy, it sounds like you were amazing. Very understandable that you would want to deal with the nasty individual who took the phone. However, please remember that these people are nasty. Please never confront these people. They are violent, look after yourself. Let them have what they want, they can be replaced, you cannot.

Just wanted to add to what others have already said. It's an awful thing to have happen at such a young age. Unfortunately it happens far too frequently these days. On the bright side it was just a phone that was stolen, things are easily replaceable, people not so much. The main thing is that everyone is OK and you don't let ruin your trip. You should all be proud of the mature way that Amy has been able to deal with what must have been a terrifying experience and that is testament to the great job that you do everyday. Keep up the amazing work you are doing.
Wow just wow... if nothing else life lessons for all and those watching sadly in this world some people will take whatever is not bolted to the ground and then some will even go for the copper on old railway lines. The exact same thing happened to my friend outside a shop called Irregular Choice which I believe is around the corner from where this happened to Amy. I know when it was reported she was basically told that it happens a lot around there and there's not much they can do. It's such an awful and scary thing for someone to go through. I hope Amy is okay and that you can get somewhere with the police.

I love london but its a sad part of it these days :( I was robbed by a guy on a mobile about 2 minutes from my front door walking to my local shop in the middle of last year, I'm a big guy and like to think I can take care of myself but just froze with the shock of it. Like you said the most important thing is it was just a phone and no one was hurt. I hope you enjoy London in the future and don't let this ruin the great parts of it for you
Even if it was just a phone, its an extremely violating feeling.. I had my purse snatched in NYC and I am a grown ass woman and it seriously shook me up.

I was flashed by a man in the woods when i was 16 and my mum was walking ahead of me. we called the police after not getting through to
101 and they went to search but didn’t find him and i didn’t make an official statement at the station because I wanted to stop thinking about it . sorry this happened to u amy! it’s understandable how shook up you must’ve been.

I can't see how people voluntarily WANT to move there, especially considering everything is incredibly overpriced!!
Plenty of reasons to want to move to a major city higher pay, the night life, more job opportunities, everything is either in walking distance or public transport is accessible, you meet all walks of life, no matter how "odd" you think you are you'll find your niche, lots of events and activities, etc crime happens everywhere city life is great but its not for everyone

joshTEAM this happens everywhere. My mums purse got snatched in Truro, Cornwall. I’ve lived in the east end of London for 10 years and I’ve never had a problem. Maybe I’ve been lucky.
Indigo Dandelion Maybe you don’t own/wear a lot of designer. I wear very expensive coats and shoes (£1000+ a piece) and I have to look over my shoulder every other minute and cross the road as soon as I see suspicious people.
I was in London on Sunday, and I always hate it because of how busy and manic everything is. And you find that crime is in abundance in certain parts of London and so it is a place I feel on edge more than any other place in the uk.
Why you have got to be careful in London. Advise: get an anti theft backpack/handbag and keep your belongings safe. And make sure your handbag is zipped up.

If the phone is covered under insurance surely the best option is to claim through that? Spending money you don't have when you don't have to seems like the wrong course of action.

I cannot imagine what you guys were feeling while it was all happening. It just freaks me out thinking about all of the people and everything going on. So sorry that happened to Amy, so scary! I hate crowded, busy, noisy places! For the future I recommend not puting anything in back pockets in places like that. Also, if you’re wearing a Backpack, Wear it backwards, so it’s in front of you. Same with a purse etc.. Phones can be replaced, I’m glad they weren’t trying to grab her!
