Supposedly there is a difference, but we use 596521 jet in every one we get in the shop and it always works. I think they are all the same and work exactly the same.
Agree with you on the copy carbs, they are dreadful. I managed to drill the jet out just enough to stop the hunt but a new jet is the way to go as the brass used seems to be super hard and breaks the micro drill bits with ease. They should all be the revised jet with a slightly larger hole too now. Well worth the extra money, lot less hassle.
A trick sometimes suggested for a part-blocked carb is to rev the engine (possibly overriding the governer) then fully block the air intake. The engine will soon die but in doing so will pull a good vacuum through all parts of the carb which can help shift blockages.
Interesting the carb mounts are identical here in Canada. I don't mind these carbs (I almost wrote crabs LOL) actually. When they get brittle in 15 years who knows. I just read these cartridges will fit from the 450 to 550 engines.
I've got one out back just like that and I went to clean it , used gunk spray and when I went to put it back together it was tight going in ! I think any carb cleaner is just to harsh maybe swelling because of it ? I will replace that and thanks for the tip !
How's she goin'? Hey there Riley Boy!!! Nice fix on the surging Mick. I have a Kohler 17HP that hunts like crazy at high speed and runs smooth as silk at low speed. There is a brand new carb on it that came from China. Adjusting the hi speed jet is usually the way I resolve this, but the new carb has a fixed hi speed jet. No access to it all. It was a cheap carb and I guess now I know why. LOL Thanks for sharing and take care!!!
Hey Mick's mowers I have a Briggs and Stratton 450e series engine that hunts and surge's. I have bought a nock of carb and it is still running rough. Can you help thanks
Do not buy the "who flung dung" copies. However there are other videos with micrometer drills out there suggesting you give the carb a little bit of a fettle. It worked for a mower I had previously +20 thou up the main jet and it cleared it just fine.
Didn't realize the plastic things were different. Did you ever drill one out? Rileyboy is looking good. I think he would like a wife beater tanktop and some of those tattoo sleeves that you can wear for halloween. Nice live chat yesterday. Bob
Thanks for popping by my friend.. hell yeah Riley boy with tattoos and a wife beater.. does it get any better.. yeah I have drilled them out in the past with some mixed results
Hey Mick, was there any reason you didn’t just pull that brass pilot jet out and then have the same thing as what you brought? I popped my brass pilot out and I’ll report back after testing.
@@themowerman doing a video on this mower and I literally just recorded an extra clip to mention that I’ll try this, watch this space lol. The only thing I don’t know is, if your new cartridge drilling is the same as the one in the old style with the jet. It may run pig rich lol. For a reference, the hole under the brass pilot is 1.2mm on these old cartridges, I’m not sure if they are that large on the new ones or if it’s a tiny very fine hole like a typical pilot jet at 0.35mm? From your video the hole looks quite large. Either way, I’ll let you know in the morning.
@@themowerman Hey Mick, just did a video on the mower, if you have some time to watch it and share advice on the subtle popping it would be much appreciated! Also, yes, just twist in a small screw in the brass pilot jet and pull it out, works perfectly without it. Cheers!
Good one But what is going on with the old cartridge why are they going bad one.... I have literally been swapping engines over then mess about with these ... I'll give it a go on the next one I find
Hi Mick, i have a McAlister same engine as the MOUNTFIELD. Starts no problem but hunts, removed carb and cleaned it out, no difference, fitted new carb today, no difference. its got a new filter spark plug and primer bulb and starts on first pull. any idea where i can go from here. Thanks.
@@themowerman It had PAT PENDING moulded in the body as the cheap ones don't have this anywhere, so yes i assume its original, so now the time has passed and this mower has been fitted with three carbs all with the same result so now the owner intends to bury it in his garden. Without the handles.
Hi Mick. Here is a question for you. I have a new Allett Kensington 14k (kawasaki engine). Only done 2 hours work. Last night I went to cut my lawn and it was hunting like mad. I put the mower back in the garage with intentions of looking at it today. I started it up and there was no hunting. Engine running like a Rolex. What do you make of that? . Thank you.
Hi mate.. could be a couple of things.. could be the fuel tape was off, running low on fuel, some dirt in the carburetor that passed through.... Water in the system..Is the air filter ok..
Gary if you’ve watched Mick’s channel for any length of time you’d know how special Mick’s son is to us. That young man is an inspiration to us all. If you don’t like it that’s your business but there’s no need to post comments on here about it. Mick’s son is one of a kind and we wouldn’t trade him for anything, we love Riley and nothing or no one will ever change that.
Gary, Riley has a heart of gold, what you may not know is he has additional needs which can affect him in ways that other children don’t experience. Mick and his wife do an incredible job and know what they’re doing raising him.

Thanks mate..
Always a pleasure to see Riley Boy happy and working with his Dad. Dave in WarsashD

Works every time. For the price it’s a no brained. Good one my friend.
Tidy fix and we'll cheap. Nice to see Riley happy

I believe the one I have used is for a 4 to 6hp engine
I usually just drill them out a bit and clean it really good. Riley Boy looks like he has had a growth spurt. He is getting tall.

Hi Mick and Riley. Love your shirt Riley, great colours. Excellent vid as usual. Cheers from Aus. Stay safe.
Never doubted it Mick, nice fix
Mick, you didn't even have to get down and dirty on that repair! 👍

Ok thanks so I wonder if you can get one for the 3.5 ones
Thanks once again for the top shelf info....
I installed a fuel valve years ago and still no issues. Still running the original carburetor.
Another fine job Mick spot on 👍👍👍👍
Nice work, good fix.
Done and done once again, Mick.
i just bought a whole new carb 8.99 posted to scotland
That's not genuine.. you may regret it. The copy one can be crap..
Love watching you Mick, and wee riley boy. Any chance could you send me stickers for my son who watches you and loves riley, he thinks he's class.

Yes but if you drill it too big it will run on choke.. so for the cost of a set of micro drill bits you may as well get the jet cartridge
