This seems like a great idea. I might try this and slit another bottle to cover water spout. Wishing you great success. Please follow up to let us know how this worked. Thank you for taking the time to share!

This year is only my second year gardening and I’ve graduated to raised beds, but my first year I grew everything (tomatoes, peppers, etc.) in milk crates. They were free, so it make my first of gardening super cheap. 🤑

Yes, I do believe the rope is enough and I will follow up on this video. I will be checking moisture levels in the soil regularly after planting.

I like the wooden spacers. I was wondering about the gap between buckets. Did you seal this gap? I would be concerned about mosquitos, getting to the water supply. Were the stands of rope lying on the bottom sufficient for water wicking? I hope you do a follow-up video and show how they performed.

No didn't seal. I will keep a check on that for sure! Didn't even THINK about it.

This is inefficient and a waste of money to buy two buckets when you can do it with just one. That's why the project was so costly. You could have used the tops of the buckets to make a false bottom, they're like a million tutorials and examples on how to do it

wouldn't that turn their 5 gallon buckets into more like 3.5 - 4 gallon buckets when it comes to soil capacity for the roots to GROW in? sure its not a ton but if somebody was already doing something and didn't mind spending a lil more to MAXIMIZE.. I just made myself my first self watering bucket and went with the single bucket method. I couldn't think of any other reason why someone would do this two bucket method other than perhaps max out root space. I'm a total noob and was on the fence about doing double bucket method but didn't think the extra soil capacity was worth another bucket, but heck who knows, maybe it pushes out a few more of those one bell peppers???
