Just changed the rear shocks on my 2007 tundra thanks to you Excellent step by step video... you provided wit, wisdom, and humor! Keep up the great work!
Awesome, one of the best. I actually think I could do this. My 07 tundra has 192K and never had the shocks changed. I may keep her for awhile, runs like a top.
Good video thanks. Liked the tips and tricks for the rust belt ones. I wish I watched your video before I started! I’m having trouble with the top bolts and my vise grips are slipping, will keep trying
@@DIYJIM I ended up finishing them last night thanks to your tips. The extra wrench for the top bolt gave me more leverage and the bolt came off. It was a bugger, but eventually came. Thanks!
Thanks for the video brother 👍 I'm replacing the rear shocks on our 2013 double cab today. This video was super helpful! Next -- transmission drain and fill. Thanks 🙏
Great work! Thank you for the detailed video. I have an 07 Tundra with only 47K miles, unfortunately it's getting very rusty underneath. Good tip on penetratingly oil a few days prior to removal. I'm about to install Bilstien 5160.
Thanks for the video and tips.If the undercarriage isn't rusted and everything is in good shape (I'm in North Texas so no salted roads) do you need to replace the rubber bushings? My replacement Bilsteins only came with new locking nuts.
Very well done video I watched your transmission fluid change as well both were well done thanks for the safety tips and done in laymen terms so anybody can understand again thanks
Best video I've found for this job, thank you for posting this. One question, how important is it to torque the bottom bolt? I do not have a torque wrench and I just did it by hand.
I’m going to guess most people do not have a torque wrench. I’m sure you will be ok. I think I put a link to one I’m my description to one that does not cost to much if you want to check it out. Thanks for watching
Great video. About to do this with my 07 CM tundra. Original Shocks @ 200k km. Only thing that upset me was you didnt turn and give your good girl millie some pats when she snuck up on you haha
If you get a seized nut on the top , a diablo carbide tip saws-all blade cuts the top shaft off clean right under the nut... im a small guy - not a mechanic - and 60 yrs old and it was super easy. no fire needed.
Thanks Jim. I have a 2005 Tundra and I think your video will help. I'm the kind of guy who loves to do the simple mechanical replacement repairs. I've replaced the shocks in the past and your video, even thought it's says 2007-2013, seems pretty much the same sequence. Thanks a lot. In the past I never "primed" the shocks like you did. Is that really necessary? Thanks again.
Not really sure but all the research I did before making this video. I figured it was a good idea. Sorry can not give you a better answer. The shocks were easy to replace. I also like to do the easy repairs and upkeep to my vehicles. Thanks for watching
Just wanted to follow up and say that I was able to put a set of these on my Tundra and it makes a huge difference. To be fair, the shocks that were on there were in bad need of replacement. Also, I was having trouble keeping the lower part of the shock lined up with the bracket in order to put the bottom bolt back in place. I used a smaller jack that I had and got it real close to be lined up, then used a small pry bar to finish the job. Also, be sure to only get the jack on the shock because at first I was getting it close and when I was almost there, the outside surface of the jack was catching the bracket and then all I was doing was lifting the truck off the jack stand.
You absolutely need the metal spacer on the bottom of the top set to secure it ......just installing the rubber without the metal spacer is a huge mistake....do not do this.
