The Steve story reminds me of my past. I am convinced that these toxic people really look for vulnerable people to leach on. I had a steve like friend when I was younger, and like the narrator here, I was too weak and low self esteemed to see past the obvious red lights. Luckily, after I went to bootcamp and returned i was more confident in keeping my distance from him. He threatened me but did actually never came back. Otherwise I am sure I would have been stuck in a toxic relationship for far more longer than I would have wanted to .

Steve sounds like all of my worst thoughts and impulses. The kind of gross stuff you learn growing up with a narcissist, and then spend the rest of your life going "oh wait no don't do that, that is what assholes do",. We become the anti-Steves. We become able to see through the Steves. As I am listening I am like "Oh yeah that sounds like (childhood friend). Ah, yeah that is exactly like (narcissistic parent). I remember when (friend raised by narcissist) did that when she was young,". And man, there are a lot of Steves out there.

Well it's not fake one bit. How old are you? Im that woman it happened too. I thought he was my boyfriend and I had snuck out of the house. I had no idea what happened, except a few memories here and there. I remember that morning waking up in my bed so confused and wondering how I got home. I was young and dumb. I wasn't going to tall my dad what happened when I had snuck out to be with an older man. It was years later that I had a memory of walking down that road I'm the middle of the night. I know they both where touching me, but I really think they thought they killed me because he packed his crap and I never saw him again.
