In the day time it is fancy dress party, unfortunately. People use it as an excuse to play Halloween dress up. Majority of it was literally just Halloween costumes. Making a mockery of us. However, it's still the same in spring time too. I've seen a few people around my age though (16-25) that are goth though, which is very promising. All the goths, like my mates, are actually hiding till night time to the actual goth music events.
I am 59 yrs old and i am GOTH since i was 17. I dress goth all year evey year. I use Whitby to go Victorian I love it and don't care what the haters think. I AM WHO I AM
looked more like steampunk than anything else, easy to spot the Amazon/Camden Market assembled fancy dress. Nice to see folks 60+ embracing it though, perhaps they were goths back in the day who knows
It's a shame the goths don't go any more but it's their loss and you have to think the event would have died if it had been left to them alone. There's some real gems there and it's great to see the variety of costumes on display and the hard work and imagination that goes into them.
I could spot maybe a handful of who appeared to be genuine goths. Other than that it's just a fancy dress party. Really sad to be fair, that these folk take the event away from the ones it mean so much to.
Definitely costume! So fed up with people using it as an excuse to wear Halloween outfits. Proper Goth festivals happen in Leipzig, Hildersheim (Mera Luna) and Koln, it's also warmer in Germany too for those events.
Every year it gets crazier, I saw more photographers than goths, it’s just a big fancy dress competition now but it’s still always a good weekend so does it really matter if you are a real goth or not
I'm old enough to remember when we all wore black to save on trips to the launderette. Do other subcultures have to suffer this colonizatrion by clowns, piss-takers and daytrippers?
It's our fault for not attending, it's the biggest fest we have twice a year ,the photograph comments ,I went to Mera Luna few years ago that's all everybody there does .pose and photograph so it's commonplace.
Steampunk,cosplay,fancy dress,exhibitionists on the whole.
cosplayers, steampunks, photograpthers, goth spotters and gorpers have really ruined it
any real goth would cringe and get embarrassed if someone asked to take their picture...

I am glad I dont go any more fancy dress brigade have ruined it.
To be fair, we saw the highest proportion of proper Goths up at the Whitby Brewery. Keeping out of the way of the purple top hatters.
Whitby fancy dress weekend. Goth in name only.

They still go, but at night when the actual goth events are on!
