That's the beauty of Star Wars. You can enjoy the simple stories as a newcomer, and enjoy all the rich, expansive lore (Legends or canon) as a longtime fan. Something for everyone.
Because the game is ongoing and because Disney has yet to give us an alternate backstory to the entire SW franchise, I have personally accepted this as canon...for now. Otherwise, SW would feel pretty damn empty without all this lore, history and backstory.
I don't get why people get so worked up about this. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but why can't they just be two universes. One is what Disney call cannon, for those who aren't so dedicated to lore. The other is a fan made universe built into the same world as the movies too !
I have probably watched this timeline over 20 times by now and I still can't get enough, I really hope the Old Republic Era never dies. This will always be canon for me.
It's crazy how an hour long history on star wars doesn't even go into the fine detail about the universe. There's just so much, and that's why Iove it! Great editing too btw.
Without doubt the best Star Wars history piece on TH-cam. Well edited, produced and perfectly narrated. Excellent work. Thank you for putting time and effort into this.
I'd like to let everyone know that I welcome and enjoy any and all feedback, both positive and negative and I will allow all comments no matter how harshly you judge my work. However, course language and personal attacks against myself or any other commenters is completely unnecessary and will not be allowed. The entries of those exhibiting such behavior will be deleted. I also will delete any responses to such entries even if those responses themselves are more restrained because I don't believe in letting arguments with chat trolls continue. Let's keep it civil please.
This actually gave me insight in things I hadn't learned yet, I really appreciate you making this! Love how you've edited this, was really enjoyable to both watch and listen!
Actually Drumm, Darth Malgus isn't shown dying on Alderaan vs. Satele, he's only badly wounded (neither he nor his body is shown after the end of the battle, indicating it's possible he escaped). At the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, he returns wearing a mask because of those wounds he received on Alderaan and indeed also appears later multiple times in the game itself (always wearing the mask) which is set years after the attack on the temple.
This is excellent! It's a shame they didn't do entries for KOTOR II at the time, as those are momentous events with three of the most fascinating Sith, Traya, Sion, and Nihilus in play.
I love how the Sith are always portrayed as evil but when you see things from their perspective of the end of the Hyperspace War, their "revenge" is 100% justified.
This is all infinitely better than the new canon. There’s so much ambiguity in the sequels that it’s almost like they’re trying to start the whole series over again just for the kids who haven’t seen any of the previous movies. I absolutely love how detailed and expansive the histories of the republic and empire is in this.
I know this video is now 3 years old, but damn! Well done good sir. Absolutely loved that it was in chronological order. The editing was great. So much lore in the game and in the universe, not to mention some awesome in game movies. Well done, and thank you!.
Braden Allman better to have a both. A movie to start the series off and then right after start the series. Pretty much copying what they did with star wars clone wars.
God this was fun to watch! Some of you guys really go all out on these videos. My TV has TH-cam on it with surround sound, so this was like watching an unofficial Star Wars movie! Great stuff man!
MNanme1z4xs The Hundred Year Darkness SHOULD be it's own Movie & have Darth Ruin as the Starring Villain Role, It'll Only achieve TRUE Greatness, IF The Mouse Acknowledge it.
Holy crap, does someone knows the name of the soundtrack playing a the end of the video, please ? (59:13) It's very impressive how well it fits both Star Wars, as an universe, and the Old Republic/Sith Empire thematic context. By the way superb work with the video ; the editing is flawless. [EDIT: Nevermind, i found it. It is called "Clash Of Destiny" for anyone wishing to know.]
You did a fantastic job of recompiling this lore. I enjoy it greatly and consider this to be the best of the old lore for Star Wars. You should work on other compilations as well. Thank you for the time you spent on this.
Currently.., those of us who unconditionally love "Star Wars: The Expanded Universe", are like the "Reconstituted Sith Empire" waiting in the shadows, growing exponentially, to take revenge on Disney. 😎
Well a year later we won, the rule of 2 has been redcon and now officially there were other sith on that era with Palpatine and darth Vader as the rulers, same while it was Palpatine and doku making any other sith that was made into legends because of the rule of 2 kinda cannon, darth vader could have had many other apprentices like the legends say same as Palpatine.
This is awesome !!! I love the narrator and the presentation. To me this is canon. Screw what Disney say. They have no clue what their doing with the canon.
Bravo man, was made pretty well and is actually on a timeline, the other histories kinda worked backwards then front again, very confusing especially when they take a lot of time to talk about the dark jedi wars that distract from the main conflict.
Really appreciate this. I was getting lost in the original presentation style. I'm new to this "universe" that I had no idea of. I was 10 when the first star wars moive came out and to me the only history was that. Although I knew there were comics, books, cartoon, etc...I never gave it much thought. Shame on me. So interesting to hear and read..just no time now. I wish they would do a CGI movie for the Old Republic. Those cinematic trailers are AWESOME!!
They missed lots of information around Revan: - The Jedi sent to Malachor V were not his greatest supporters. Revan then activated the weapon (The Mass-Shadow Generator, a gravity enhancing machine, built by a Iridonian called Bao-Dur) killing the Mandalorians and his critics at once. - Revan never fell to the dark side. He pretended to be on the emperor's side and secretly left the military installations intact of the planets he conquered. In some cases he even built more underneath their surfaces (Telos IV and the HK-50/HK-51 factory). - The many simultaneous deaths on Malachor V created a wound in the fabric of the force. One man survived, but felt an enormous hunger and began draining the Force of entire planets. He became Darth Nihilus - Lord of Hunger. - Revan did not give the order to destroy Malachor V, it was a female Jedi named Meetra Surik (but Revan would have done the same. His shuttle was held up, from fighting Mandalore the Ultimate). Meetra Surik was almost killed from the wound in the Force, but cut herself from the Force and survived. She returned to Coruscant and was exiled for following Revan into the Mandalorian wars. - An Old woman, a former Jedi called Arren Kae had become the Sith Darth Traya and had begun training Sith students on the dead remains of Malachor V (including a near immortal man, named Darth Sion - Lord of Pain). - (Revan is redeemed as stated in the video and returns to confront the True Sith) - Darth Traya is betrayed by Darths Sion and Nihilus. Sion attacks and kills most Jedi during the first Jedi Purge. The Jedi masters want to see an accurate vision of the future, to see how they could stop the Jedi Purge and gather on Cathar with many Miralukans. (They see a vision of Meetra Surik). One of the Jedi Masters, named Atris thinks that no Sith could overwhelm this many Jedi Masters at once, and so she informs them of their location. Darth Nihilus appears and consumes all life on Cathar. (Atris flees.) There is only one survivor: A Miralukan Force-sensitive young woman, called Visas Marr, who is taken as an apprentice by Darth Nihilus. - Darth Traya renames herself Kreia, finds Meetra Surik, establishes a Force-Bond, which causes Meetra to feel the Force again. - Meetra goes on adventures to gather remaining Jedi Masters, from around the galaxy and becomes powerful enough to kill Darth Sion, Darth Nihilus and Darth Traya - the Sith Triumvirate. She establishes the new Jedi Order (because even the masters were killed) and then goes to join Revan on Dromund Kaas. (The military installations Revan has left behind; Mandalore the Preserver and his Mandalorians; Admiral Onasi; the republic's droid army, provided by M4-78; and other factions are prepared to face the future Sith, when they attack 300 years later)
I have watched this video numerous times over the course of a few years and find the stories and lore in this video to be far more engaging than all of the Disney sequels. It's a shame that these stories and lore will likely never be explored for the big screen, I still hold out hope but it's unlikely.
Do you know how many times I've watched this video? It has to be close to a hundred. I love that you spliced the cinamatics and put all the entries in chronological order. I love this. I hope they don't see a need to change this.
This is awesome! As someone who can't play the game, it explains a lot that I've been missing. Of course the only downside is that now I KNOW what I'm missing....
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no fear; there is power. I am the heart of the Force. I am the revealing fire of light. I am the mystery of darkness In balance with chaos and harmony, Immortal in the Force.
This was very well done, I love the fact the the cinematic was incorporated into the video, and in the right places. I wish I could play the game, especially after this video, but alas, I have a crappy mac
Great work David, nice editing. I watched the original but prefer this because of the chronological order. The original release was somewhat confusing. Thanks!
Everyone should stop worrying about what disney says is canon or not canon. All the stories we love are still here for all of us to enjoy. So enjoy it before the dark lord of the sith Kathleen kennedy and her sith apprentice Rian Johnson destroy the everything we cherish.
It’s amazing how a movie in 1977 about some space farmer kid with magic powers and an oversized glowstick blows up a massive moon sized ball of death evolved into this and so much more
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! This video has helped me so much! I was always confused about the timeline of swtor and now thanks to you I have a clear understand of what goes on! :D
Everytime I watch this I visualize how it would be in a theaters or tv series my goodness get that Mandalorian team or people that know what to do and hou got something beyond Gold!!!!
Really great work on this! I have only one tiny nitpick. The voice overs from the cut-scenes aren't the original ones, but the later ones, after they changed them for some reason. I personally prefer the text of the original versions. But of course that's just my opinion.
The mass shadow generator was the weapon. This weapon created Darth Nihilus.... And the name of the Sith Emperor??? DARTH TENEBRAE, LORD VITIATE, HIGH EMPEROR VALKORION...
The only real problem i have with all of the old republic, are all these people walking around in robes and cloaks and ornate Ancient roman/persian style costumes. They have hyper drives, they have laser blasters, holograms, capes are fn impractical, its why modern militaries only use dress uniforms for ceremonies. Also, considering how far apart the hyperspace war is from the Sith War....from the clone war....they have clearly not advanced far enough in technology. If you have hyperdrives....4k years later its reasonable to assume you would have transporters or something. We are talking an unbroken civilization, no mass collapse.
+Bigbudd0045 Agree, but technology did advance a lot, for example Lighsabers had external power source wich means there was a cable that goes into a battery on back of the wielder. They were not really practical so a lightsaber was invented wich drained darkside of the force from the user wich was mosty used by some sith not Jedai. It was Revan who created the first fully functional Lighsaber with an inside fission battery and a focus crystal. Than it was used by Jedai and ofc Sith. Ik i got off the topic but yea technology did advance to some point...
David Hammer good work on reorganizing this. It sums up what happened before the beginning of the game, and helped shed some light on how some of these events happened.
This game is by far the greatest source of history in the EU. Before it so much was left empty and we knew only a fraction of what happened before the Revan. Thank you, Bioware. Thank you.
The more I listen to Hackett narrating this, the more I wait for him to say "Because war.. War never changes.". Ok, different franchises, different narrator, but Fallout's trademark motto would fit well in here somewhere..
What is the class of the ship they are getting away in @ 33:38? It looks like a YT-1300 but it is a bit different. It holds cargo in the front like a YT-1300 but it seems smaller and the thrusters are different yet the interior looks the same and the gun turrets are very similar???
+HaloofCurls I didn't change any voiceovers from the original videos as presented by Bioware. All I did was rearrange the videos into chronological order with some splicing here and there for coherency. I also added some music from Bioware's soundtrack to help with transitions.
the swor is endlessly confusing, thanks for helping to make it somewhat more manageable for someone like me, all though I fear I am still hopelessly lost trying to understand its chronology
Darth Malgus survives survives the battle of alderaan, he even single handely killed a few patrols with Moderately life threatening injuries on his way back to the empire
All this, just from a simple story about a farm boy learning space magic and joining a rebellion against an evil government
That's the beauty of Star Wars. You can enjoy the simple stories as a newcomer, and enjoy all the rich, expansive lore (Legends or canon) as a longtime fan. Something for everyone.
best describing of star wars i ever read
We must thank George Lucas for giving us the greatest sci-fi story of all time.
The Dank Lord Of The Sith the empire isn’t evil
That’s the root of the Star Wars tree, yeah.
Malcolm charging Malgus with nothing but a knife was simultaneously the most badass and tactically stupid thing I've ever seen.

SWTOR is cannon. its one of the best if not the best starwars story I've ever heard in the starwars universe.
Yes!
All hail the Revan !
So Is Nihilus Canon?
Growmatt _13 No
+Logan Baxley For what it's worth, it used to be cannon, but after the Force Awakens started being made they said it was no longer cannon.

+David Hammer Thanks for the upload!
+David Hammer Well done. Now I'm interested in someone created a series out of this entire series of events.
This is the most educational video about the roots of star wars I have ever seen!!!! WOW!!! GREAT VIDEO!!!!
Feel free to make more, if you do I suggest making another video on the next some thousand years, or however long, up until episode 1.
Not sure what you mean by finished. I used all the "historical" videos that Bioware put out before SWTOR launched. This is as finished as it gets.
God dang it. These are the movies and tv shows we should be getting. This whole video was so epic and amazing, I can’t get enough of the old republic!
Lets all give Di$ney a huge round of applause 4 getting rid of this great history!
This actually gave me insight in things I hadn't learned yet, I really appreciate you making this! Love how you've edited this, was really enjoyable to both watch and listen!

Read "The Decieved" written by Paul Kemp :)
Best 59 minutes of my day; thx alot :)

Oh, dear Lucasfilm, please let Bioware make their own Star Wars film. Or why not tv show?
Yes a movie
Braden Allman better to have a both. A movie to start the series off and then right after start the series. Pretty much copying what they did with star wars clone wars.
God this was fun to watch! Some of you guys really go all out on these videos. My TV has TH-cam on it with surround sound, so this was like watching an unofficial Star Wars movie! Great stuff man!
Editing here is so good! Love the way you integrated the cinematics with the timeline records. Thanks for making this!
I love how this leads in directly to the game's class story starting points, especially with the music at the end.
Thanks David for putting together the Timeline and adding the video scenes, Brilliant job.
Now I feels like Disney's acquisition of Star wars IP means someone get a PHD, and enrolled in kid garden afterward.
+MNanme1z4xs atleast The Hundred Year Darkness is Re-canonized.
Conrado Javier That is good news. But canonized or not, the EU is an amazing epic saga on its own.
MNanme1z4xs The Hundred Year Darkness SHOULD be it's own Movie & have Darth Ruin as the Starring Villain Role, It'll Only achieve TRUE Greatness, IF The Mouse Acknowledge it.
Conrado Javier I don;t want a cynical reboot, I just want Star wars to be what it is.
+MNanme1z4xs This is Star Wars
Holy crap, does someone knows the name of the soundtrack playing a the end of the video, please ? (59:13) It's very impressive how well it fits both Star Wars, as an universe, and the Old Republic/Sith Empire thematic context.

Maybe I missed something, but I feel like they left out a good chunk of history concerning the Exile and other events from KOTOR II. No ?
i want Disney to make Star Wars The Old Republics movies before i die !!
please make it
+crumcon not likely
The games are being remade, the first game remake is in Alpha.
+Samuel T. White What is an Alpha? Unfamiliar with that term...
Albert Radmacher When you make a game, it has 3 stages, Alpha, Beta, Game. So basically it in its early stages.
There is no death - there is the force
You did a fantastic job of recompiling this lore.

Yes
Can tell you worked hard on it. Good job
Nice compilation and editing.
This is awesome !!! I love the narrator and the presentation. To me this is canon. Screw what Disney say. They have no clue what their doing with the canon.
This is a really well done video. Thank you from a fellow Star Wars fan.
Bravo man, was made pretty well and is actually on a timeline, the other histories kinda worked backwards then front again, very confusing especially when they take a lot of time to talk about the dark jedi wars that distract from the main conflict.

Fantastic video! Crazy that none of this is official canon, it's so brilliant
that was great! I love how you included the cinematic trailers for SWTOR!!
I have watched this video numerous times over the course of a few years and find the stories and lore in this video to be far more engaging than all of the Disney sequels. +WildHorseFantasy ik its a late reply but why cant you play the game its free to download...
REALLY ENJOYED THIS. HOPE YOU CONTINUE...
Would love to see an updated version, that was really good!
Love your video man, as a fan of SWTOR this is a treat.
Good stuff fella, excellent viewing, much appreciated.
damn star wars this is the longest history i've ever seen but DAMN this is cool
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no fear; there is power. I am the heart of the Force. I am the revealing fire of light. I am the mystery of darkness In balance with chaos and harmony, Immortal in the Force.
this music score is everything!!
This was very well done, I love the fact the the cinematic was incorporated into the video, and in the right places. I wish I could play the game, especially after this video, but alas, I have a crappy mac
Must say, very informative for all Star Wars fans. Love the history, stuff I never knew
Excellent editing. I am extremely impressed and love this!!
Great work David, nice editing. I watched the original but prefer this because of the chronological order. The original release was somewhat confusing. Thanks!
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I just wish it were longer.
(slow clap) Dave...watching this during the final weeks before Episode 9 ....this was great. Hope you do a part two.
That one jedi that fought malgus and his master was a badass
My goodness I want this on the big screen someday. I love watching this no matter how old lol!.
Awesome video on the history of the Star Wars!
this is absolutely brilliant. is there a part 2? what happened after the jedi relocated?
Baldev Singh Gill You have to play the game to find out ;)
Everyone should stop worrying about what disney says is canon or not canon. All the stories we love are still here for all of us to enjoy. So enjoy it before the dark lord of the sith Kathleen kennedy and her sith apprentice Rian Johnson destroy the everything we cherish.
Wow now this hole timeline actually makes sense to me now THANKS!
wait? but in KOTOR you play as the person that defeats Malak and destroys the star forge?
Great video man! Thank you for the work you have done to put this togother.
41:40 thats why republic Trooper is my favorite class that ambush charge is just so epic and awesome
Brilliant video that does Star Wars itself justice. Top job!
I wonder if the Galactic Empire formed by Darth Sidious is an Incarnation of the ancient Sith Empire!
thanks for the upload. the narrator sounds like the guy who played Raiden in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
Excellent job David Hammer, YOU ROCK sir!
Thanks for making this ! :)
Well, this is a very good story, and also, David, you did a good job on editing it, i subscribe and like!
Is that Lance Henriksen doing the Narrative?
The mass shadow generator was the weapon. This weapon created Darth Nihilus.... And the name of the Sith Emperor??? DARTH TENEBRAE, LORD VITIATE, HIGH EMPEROR VALKORION...
David Hammer well done, I hope one day a movie is made based on these stories of the Old Republic, I would be willing to spend $20 to go see it.
This was an amazing listening. It's great re learning all this again
Amazing job. Simply amazing, sir!
Such a fantastic short film.
why didn't you make more of this :( this is amazing, with a great voice too. There's a lot more Star Wars history to cover
5000cz I didn't make any of the content. I used all the Bioware created material I could find.
David Hammer good work on reorganizing this. It sums up what happened before the beginning of the game, and helped shed some light on how some of these events happened.
I really enjoyed this vid! Thanks so much! 😄
This game is by far the greatest source of history in the EU. Before it so much was left empty and we knew only a fraction of what happened before the Revan. Thank you, Bioware. Thank you.
This is a really bad video with horrible editing
Said no one ever
It would be cool to have history of infinite empire and gree~!
Best explained timeline vid of swtor ever made
The more I listen to Hackett narrating this, the more I wait for him to say "Because war.. War never changes.". Ok, different franchises, different narrator, but Fallout's trademark motto would fit well in here somewhere..
Ikr. I completely agree
What is the class of the ship they are getting away in @ 33:38?
It looks like a YT-1300 but it is a bit different.
It holds cargo in the front like a YT-1300 but it seems smaller and the thrusters are different yet the interior looks the same and the gun turrets are very similar???
It seems like they've changed the voiceovers on the trailers so they fit with the history. I remember them being different.
+HaloofCurls I didn't change any voiceovers from the original videos as presented by Bioware. All I did was rearrange the videos into chronological order with some splicing here and there for coherency. I also added some music from Bioware's soundtrack to help with transitions.
+David Hammer Bioware, not you.
