Just a note - there are multiple routes of the Camino de Santiago. The one you walked is the Camino Frances. I have also done the Portuguese, Norte and Primitivo routes. I would highly recommend the Norte if you like the coast and beaches, and Primitivo if you like mountains. The Camino is always a special walk, no matter which route you take!

Great list Hank!! - I've done a few of those hikes including Everest, Mont Blanc, Torres del Paine O circuit and the Camino, but I'm really keen to do John Muir and Rim to Rim hikes. Hopefully I'll get to them in the next year or two. Love your work! :)
@@HankLeukart My favourite hike would have to be the Annapurna Circuit. Add to that the Inca trail, and a few in New Zealand like the Routeburn and Tongariro Circuit perhaps. Question: How heavy were your packs for the last 10 days of the JMT? - That's probably the thing that's scaring me off from doing that hike, carrying all that food... Scenery looks breathtaking :)
I have done like about 6 hikes, but only in the Himalayas. I’m so happy you put out this video and now I want to travel the world doing all these hikes.

What a great compilation of the epic hikes you've done in your past. Makes me want to get back to Iceland, Torres Del Paine, Nepal, the Alps and so many other places. What's next on the list? Maybe something in Africa-the Rim of Africa or the Red Sea Mountain Trail in Egypt. So many options-can't wait to see your next video.

I absolutely agree with number 10 on your list of best hikes, more o less you said "In adventure, you plan yourself into de backcountry, honestly, for us, those were the most rewarding trip so grab your map and compass we have your GPS and map your self into... In my own words: Geography felt and learned by the feet enriches me as a person. Walking makes it easy to feel part of the whole, it intensifies your senses of observation. To know unknown places, to feel the territory, the air, the rain, to see the horizon and the land that surrounds you, is to live the geography in its purest state. Thanks for sharing.
Loved, loved, loved this video! You guys are awesome! I've done some of this stuff; summited Mt Whitney, Half Dome and Kilimanjaro, crossed the Grand Canyon (one way), did the W in Torres del Paine, Inca Trail and planning EBC this fall. But you guys are way more hard core than our little hiking group. You might check out the hike to the base of Mt. Robson in BC. Emperor Falls along the way is pretty stunning. Great video mate! First one of yours ive come across. Plenty of good inspo for planning the next trek! I did the Alta Via 1 in italy this year. Just wondering if youve done the AV1 prior to this video or since, and how do you think it compares to the rest of your top 10?
Really enjoyed watching this video. Some great perspective on some epic hikes so thank you for sharing. I completed the WCT last summer and would say that 11 days would be a stretch from a duration perspective unless you are planning to spend multiple days at one location or another. 7 days is plenty for actually being on the trail and provides plenty of time daily for hiking, sight seeing and general 'camp site' time. Could probably do the whole thing in 5 days if you extend each day by a few kms but to be honest, most groups seem to complete the trail in 7 days so there is some daily continuity and friendships that get built along the way which is pretty awesome. Again, great post and hopefully get to check some of those off my bucket list in the years ahead.

Your points about the WCT definitely make sense -- we had two very bad weather/storm days during our WCT during which we didn't hike much at all, so I suppose we technically completed it in 9 days of hiking. And, yes, we were going slowish because we were trying to savor our time there -- and the trails were particularly muddy and difficult due to the storms when we were there. Also, we did the hike in the east-to-west direction which may be a bit slower for some people because it puts the hardest part of the trail first when you are carrying the most weight. But, yes, doing the trip in 7 days is definitely possible, especially if you hike it west to east, and would also allow you to save food weight, which helps! Where do you plan on hiking next? -Hank

Great video guys! Inspiring. I guess I was one of the "tourists" doing the W in Torres del Paine this past January, but it was AMAZING and has fueled a desire in me for more adventures. I also got to hike in the Mt. Fitzroy area out of El Chalten, Argentina on the same trip, and WOW, so beautiful. I'm from San Diego, CA, and Yosemite is one of my all time favorite places. Awesome video, guys, really enjoyed it even though hiking is my secondary objective while travelling due to time constraints (work obligations. shorter vacations of up to maximum 2 weeks etc.). Loved your video from Spain too. Anyway, I also wanted to suggest another trail, "Via Adriatica Trail" in my home country, Croatia. It starts in the nortwest of the country and goes all the way down to the south (at almost all times you can see the coast and Adriatic sea), 1100 kilometers (683 miles) in total. I believe you'd love it, only 4 people have done it so far, took them 37-44 days.

Just found this video and enjoyed it. I have EBC via Cho La pass this fall. In 2023, I am planning on trekking Mt Kenya (Lenana Point - Chogoria route), the Camino Francais and Laugevegur. IT will be a great year if I can get all those in. After that I'm looking at the UK Pennine Way.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. in 2019 I hiked the Camino de Santiago's 540+ miles, and also spent 10 days hiking the mountains on Isle of Skye, Scotland. In 2021 my friends and I are doing the Everest Base Camp hike :)

Yeah, there will be more of the New Zealand adventure but the edit process is extremely slow due to the amount of time I have outside of my actual job to do the videos (and I film videos WAY faster than I can edit, so there's a big backlog). I haven't been up to Berg Lake, but I did go hiking on Vancouver Island in Strathcona this summer and loved it. BC is amazing.
A place I went to in Spain was camilito del ray I am 100% sure I spelt it wrong but it was beautiful it’s a long walk in like what I think is like a gorge it can get super hot there I would definitely recommend if you are ok with the heat it’s around 80 degrees farrenheight

Awesome list, but wait, you took 11 days to do the West Coast Trail??? Isn't the average 6 days and many do 5. I met someone on the trail that was going for just 24h on trail!
whoops, when i said 11 days in the video, it was a mistake (not sure how i got confused). we completed the hike in 8 days (and one of those days we didn't walk because there was a severe rainstorm). anyway, yes, if you pack light, i think most can finish this in 6-7 days no problem.
Nice movie Hank. My prefered movie was the Camino de Santiago. If you keep hiking, make you're way to Corse (Corsica) in Southern France and compleet the GR20. It's the hardest GR trail of Europe and i finished it last year.

Honestly, this has more to do with the fact that the audio recording of their video call was really bad, and less to do with their accents. That said, Andy's accent is especially hard to understand with bad audio for some reason 😂
No Kili or Machu Picchu? Loved the TMB, a pretty challenging trek. Iceland is beautiful. And you need to work on those Spanish names on the Camino bro. ;)

We haven't done Machu Picchu or Kilimanjaro, mostly because both hikes legally require hiring a local guide, and we strongly prefer to do unsupported trips as a matter of principle (my brother and I did all of our trips alone and didn't use huts except for in Nepal). The classic Machu Picchu Inca Trail hike is also too short for us to have seriously considered it for this list of longerish-hikes (it's only 40 km), but maybe we'll try one of the longer, alternate routes in the future and make a video. I'm sure someday we'll do Kilimanjaro, but there's so many other trips that we could do unsupported and would probably enjoy more. -Hank

Honestly, the great thing about outdoor trips is that there's essentially a limitless supply of great adventures -- it's hard to even know where to begin on a bucket list. Off the top of my head: more sections of the PCT, AT, and CDT; continue my cross-New Zealand South Island trip; a Banff trip (Rockwall Trail?); The Wonderland Trail in Washington; more Utah; California Lost Coast; a harder European Alps trip; and a whole slew of stuff in Australia. I also wouldn't mind going back again and doing any trip I loved! Which trips are you hoping to do?

Actually, I have completed the entire MacLehose Trail there as a continuous backpacking trip and it was was fun (and quirky) time. Some of the sections are super beautiful!

A place I went to in Spain was camilito del ray I am 100% sure I spelt it wrong but it was beautiful it’s a long walk in like what I think is like a gorge it can get super hot there I would definitely recommend if you are ok with the heat it’s around 80 degrees farrenheight

Awesome list, but wait, you took 11 days to do the West Coast Trail??? Isn't the average 6 days and many do 5. I met someone on the trail that was going for just 24h on trail!
whoops, when i said 11 days in the video, it was a mistake (not sure how i got confused). we completed the hike in 8 days (and one of those days we didn't walk because there was a severe rainstorm). anyway, yes, if you pack light, i think most can finish this in 6-7 days no problem.

If you keep hiking, make you're way to Corse (Corsica) in Southern France and compleet the GR20. It's the hardest GR trail of Europe and i finished it last year.
The GR20 is definitely on my list. Can't wait to do it! Any good tips?

Do it from north to South. It's hard, but doable. You can easily do it in 10 walking days.

Honestly, this has more to do with the fact that the audio recording of their video call was really bad, and less to do with their accents. That said, Andy's accent is especially hard to understand with bad audio for some reason 😂
No Kili or Machu Picchu? Loved the TMB, a pretty challenging trek. Iceland is beautiful. And you need to work on those Spanish names on the Camino bro. ;)
Thanks for watching! We haven't done Machu Picchu or Kilimanjaro, mostly because both hikes legally require hiring a local guide, and we strongly prefer to do unsupported trips as a matter of principle (my brother and I did all of our trips alone and didn't use huts except for in Nepal). The classic Machu Picchu Inca Trail hike is also too short for us to have seriously considered it for this list of longerish-hikes (it's only 40 km), but maybe we'll try one of the longer, alternate routes in the future and make a video. I'm sure someday we'll do Kilimanjaro, but there's so many other trips that we could do unsupported and would probably enjoy more. -Hank

Honestly, the great thing about outdoor trips is that there's essentially a limitless supply of great adventures -- it's hard to even know where to begin on a bucket list. Off the top of my head: more sections of the PCT, AT, and CDT; continue my cross-New Zealand South Island trip; a Banff trip (Rockwall Trail?); The Wonderland Trail in Washington; more Utah; California Lost Coast; a harder European Alps trip; and a whole slew of stuff in Australia. I also wouldn't mind going back again and doing any trip I loved! Which trips are you hoping to do?

Hank Leukart I’m doing the Everest Base Camp trek in May for my 50th birthday. That is how I found you. I also live in Hong Kong and remarkably there are some fantastic day hikes here so going to do more of that.
@@mirandalegg7170 Oh cool. I imagine you'll really enjoy the EBC trek, even though the altitude can be trying at times. I love Hong Kong! Actually, I have completed the entire MacLehose Trail there as a continuous backpacking trip and it was was fun (and quirky) time. Some of the sections are super beautiful!
