I got the 65 a84l this week and finding it hard to fall in love with it because I feel the hdr 4K dvds I have look dim but I’m messing around with the settings. I have the A9g master series which I love which looks brighter
S90C VS A80L in 77inch. Ultimately these are the 2 TV's I am considering. I like the Brightness and gaming modes more for the S90C, but Sony is a beast with processing, especially in low bit rate TV, which I do a lot of. I do worry about the brightness of the A80L or am I just nit picking? I went to Best Buy and side by side with the A95L, I thought the A80L held its own just fine in brightness...Any help or opinions would be appreciated.
I'm in the same boat, I love everything about the Sony other than the peak brightness. I think it's somewhere around 600 nits, the LG C3 is around 850 and the S90C is over 1000 IIRC for reference.
@@Daywalker78 so I ended up purchasing a Samsung S89c which is 77 inch Best Buy exclusive that was $1799. It is QD OLED and it is glorious. I am thoroughly enjoying this TV and glad I purchased.
Looks good and should make a great addition to people’s living room this year. I myself ended up purchasing two tvs between Oct 2022 - Feb 2023 and after considering Sony there was one big reason why I couldn’t buy them. Since I run everything through my AVR’s I’d constantly have to be going into the menu and switching back and forth between Dolby Vision and VRR every single time I game. Only the soon to be upcoming A95L is capable of running both at once and that was why I ultimately chose a NeoQLED & LG G2 instead of a Sony product. I’m sure by the time I need another tv that Sony should have this issue figured out.
Interesting review, thank you. May I please ask that the music volume be knocked back a bit, as like others I do not have perfect hearing, in my case rather loud Tinnitus, which can make vocals hard to hear, especially when there is an equal level of mid-tone music? It all becomes a bit of a mushy experience sound-wise.
One thing about this tv vs my old one is the remote controls everything my blu ray player my avr Apple TV etc it’s nice to have a all in one and cec actually works correctly
Looking to change my LG 4K ultra HD has it's not turning all channels i also have LG sound bar with sub woofer not wired can still use the sound bar with the Sony tv. I run it on the ARC port
I would currently pay the same or even less for the LG G3 than the Sony a80l so is it better to get the LG G3 than the Sony a80L without thinking twice or not?
Go with the HTA 3000. I went with it on my 55 A80K. Sounds great, especially using the A80 on a center channel. Can only imagine the audio on a 77 with the 3000.
Thanks for the video, since a few days I can now call the XR77A84L my own. I think it was a good choice, I was lucky to get it very cheap (only a little over 1000 € incl. wall mount) :-)
Great review but to be honest I saw the A80L in store just the other day and I saw very very little difference between the A80L and my LG C1, Yes the Sony processor is a tad better but not enough for me to replace my C1 with it. Not to mention Sony once again provides only 2 HDMI 2.1 Ports. For the money you pay all ports should be HDMI 2.1. But again great review.
I got the 65 a80l the ht5000 soundbar sw3 subwoofer and sr3s rear speakers. In one sentence, money well spent. I can hear tones and instruments from songs I have listened to all the time that I never could hear until now. The base is not overpowering and the 3d audio just dials everything up to an 11. Like he said Sony knows what it does and does it well.
@@evidencebased1 off hand I do believe you need the soundbar to connect the subwoofer and the rear speakers. Unlike the soundbar which doesn’t need the other two to function. I would recommend the soundbar anyways because it works with the tv speakers to enhance the overall sound quality if it’s a newer Sony tv.
@@justussmith8971 you mean the tv speakers can work while the external speakers work at the same time? I kindof thought it was one or the other. You probably are right though … it is hard to beat a good external setup. Thanks.
@@evidencebased1 normally you’re correct that the tv speakers would turn off but with the A80L and Sony ht a5000 sound system it uses the tv as a centre speaker so you don’t lose the functionality of voices coming from the exact location they are on screen. (A function the A80L has).
Crap hate remotes without the number pad. That's means all the money for a good tv then have to go buy a remote on the way out the door or order one a week a head of time online
I don’t think that the tv can be used as Apple Home hub only Apple TV and HomePods can be used as hubs. But it can be added to the home app and use it in automations.
Do not buy this tv (XR65A80L). I have had mine less than 2 months and already have burn-in from the roku TH-cam app. I have a 10 min screen saver and shut the tv off when I leave the room, so it's not like I am leaving a static image all the time.
What’s with all that plastic in the back. And why is it so thick. My A90J is thinner and the back side feels so much more premium. Even my A80J was a nicer looking TV. I know it’s the back, but still.

If you use TH-cam TV or watch TH-cam a lot on your tv, this tv is terrible and picture quality is horrendous. Makes videos super grainy and doesn’t upscale. I wish reviewers would include what TH-cam/SlingTV/TH-camTV and sports look like. If I would have known that this is only good for gaming and movies, I wouldn’t have bought it.
