VLADIVOSTOK, RUSSIA or why I want to escape the Far East (VLOG)

  • Vladivostok is a city in the Far East of Russia, on the shore of Sea of Japan. This city is famous for its unique vibe, hills, the sea and traffic jams. In the video I will show you a little bit of the downtown, some outskirts, graffiti, the local lore Arsenyev State Museum and the Pacific ocean.
    However, I'm concerned about future of this region because Moscow treats the Far East a colony and takes all the resourses, giving almost nothing back. The federeal government can do whatever they want, as it was with the arrested governor of the Khabarovsk krai, Sergei Furgal. Given all the unfairness of the Russian juridical system, people in Khabarovsk don't believe the accusations and they have been protesting in support of their governor for more than a month already. But Moscow doesn't seem to hear this. (Watch the video with explanation of protests in Khabarovsk here: • PROTESTS IN KHABAROVSK... )
    About myself My name is Natasha, I live in the Far East of Russia in the city of Khabarovsk, but originally I'm from a small town Spassk-Dalny. Currently I'm studying Linguistics in a university in Khabarovsk. I like languages and learning about different cultures. Among my videos this one about Vladivostok is the most watched. Is it because this city is so popular with foreigners? Interesting observation, so here I can say that Vladivostok wins over Khabarovsk. (5 times more views!). But the video about Khabarovsk is interesting too, just saying.. :)

      Russia is not a bad country but also, far from what is possible in term of administration and infrastructure aso.
      If you come to America, you need to be strong. If you are not, this country is no place for you.
      If you want to become strong however, you can just visit most of the wealthier parts of Europe or Japan and see how different systems deal with this issue.
      They all have their problems but the USA is a country that has embraced selfishness and greed as some of her highest ideals and most people outside of the US will agree, that this is a rather strange basis to form a society above.
      That’s not to say that all US-Americans think that way but enough to give the statement merit.
      And while the USA boasts a huge market that has a very similar jurisdiction and few companies that would have to fear actual competition, the world is already catching up as the US fractures along her partisan politics, slowly loosing her international influence.
      While nothing is written in stone, nor everyone has to live in a shitty apartment in LA if they leave their country to make their luck ;)

    Sorry to hear from your money troubles! Since I live in the poorest region of Spain, I can definitely relate to your issues - we have here the highest unemployment rates, around one fifth of all employable people, so to speak... but among the young adults (say, 25 years old or less) it's far more tragic - more than half of them are unemployed! I consider myself to be very lucky, as I managed to find (and so far, keep) a good job, but I have so many friends who struggle day to day to earn some money. That's why so many people in my region depend on some kind of Goverment subsidies to simply keep on living, and many young adults cannot leave their parent's home to became truly independent.

      But still, I wouldn't dismiss other people's struggles, or call it just play lazy or pickyness, just because I happen to not being struggling in the same way - which I'm not, since I have a good job as stated before, but alas, I can see the grass is not as green for everybody else, and is not always entirely their fault...
      But you're right that some people have the luxury of choosing to be lazier or pickier than they would be in another countries, just because we have a quite nice safety net of Goverment subsidies...
      So yeah, what you said is definitely true in some cases, but it is no in many others, and judging everybody by the same measure is doing a disservice to these others.

    I’m American and I’ve been to Vladivostok twice. The first time I thought that it would be dull and boring, but to my great surprise, I actually had a wonderful time. It was great! I always tell people that of all of the places that I’ve been to, Vladivostok, surprisingly, is one of the places where I had the most fun. Though there were some sour people, most of the people were actually really nice. Good memories...

      A Brazilian look at the Russian economy and people. The Russian people are strong and warriors, this is the real reason why the Soviet Union has survived for so long!
      Modern Russia is divided into two: European Russia and Far East Russia (Its people still live in the Soviet Union, but pay taxes to support Moscow's vanity).
      Russia centralized power over the state; the State Government is a big mafia organized to benefit its members (It doesn't matter the country - The State is a mafia). The United States, Brazil also suffer from this problem... But as in every family, a good father (government) and a good mother (fair social laws) each country is heading towards prosperity!
      Halloween? The first settlers arrived in the Americas, learned from the natives the herbs that heal and kill the body; but the Baptist Church USA, said: Only Jesus can heal! Burn the witches, understand? Religion, The history of settlers in America, The land and its natural wealth, cultural diversity... You can have 1000 Nobel Prizes in a country without government support, natural resources the country does not grow... Brazil is second Richest country in the Americas, but with an unfair distribution of income!
      Brazil is the third largest producer of commercial aircraft in the world (100% Brazilian technology - Currently it has entered into a partnership with Airbus Americana in the production of executive jets and helicopters). Largest mining company on the planet (Bought the 2nd Australian), largest food producer in the world; Brazilian currency is worth 15 times the value of Russian money. 73% of all potable water on earth and has all the elements of the periodic table, 3 times the raw material production compared to the USA. GDP USA 4.3 Trillion, GDP of Brazil 4.8 trillion.
      What is Brazil's problem: Too many thieves in power (Governmental Mafia) is what kills Russia and Brazil. 10Kg of Tio João brand rice is sold at Walmart USA for $2.70 dollars and in Brazil $1.00 for 1Kg knowing it was produced in Brazil! The working hour in the country is less than that of Thailand (75% GDP less than Brazil). The Brazilian is dumb!

      1 After every revoliution there would be economical decline. It takes time to change rulling and economical system. It takes time to normalize countrie after revolution. And economy hates instability.
      2 Ukraine was super depended on Russia. Its wasnt a bad thing to be fair. I mean every EU member depends on each other. Problem is when those ties are broken.

      Yeah, Vladivostok looks like almost every Port city England! What she calls "Soviet High-rise Apartments" we just called "Brutalist architecture" and pretended that we were enjoying the fruits of capitalism. It's amazing how much I believed the official government line before the internet came along (I probably still do, but not to the same extent).

On one hand they were and are affordable housing which is in short supply here in the US. On the other hand they functioned as warehouses for people more than homes. But compared to sleeping in tents and garbage bags on the sidewalks and under bridges, I would prefer more of these high rises.

    Vauxhall actually is a name of the southern distric in London. When Tzar came in to visit british monarch he thought "Vauxhall" is literally the way british do call railway station; hence this term is used in russian language till today.

      Kind of makes sense, seeing as it contains the word 'hall'. Vaux could be train.

    • @yumallah
      @yumallah 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      That's a myth, the reason why the Russian word for 'station' is 'vokzal' is because the place where the first Russian railway station was opened was near the local Vauxhall Gardens (at that point emulating the actual Vauxhall Gardens from the UK was popular among European countries), and the name just kinda stuck from there on.

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I've heard a totally different story and I think it's more plausible (I'm not sure that the Tsar ever visited England, just for a start): in the 19th century, Russia was a VERY backwards country compared to Western Europe, like still almost medieval in many respects while Europe was at the height of the Industrial Revolution, but the Tsar wanted to modernize the country. Russia was building its first railways and the Tsar sent a delegation to England, which was the superpower of the time, to study their railways. London had just opened a new train station at Vauxhall and it was the most modern of its time. The Russians were so impressed with it that they couldn't stop talking about it when they came home. Since they wanted Vauxhall Station to be their goal of excellence, the name ended up sticking.

      Vauxhall was an entertainment garden in the Kennington area of London in the late 1600s, 1700s and closed in 1859. It featured various performers including tightrope walkers, sideshows, musicians, plays, and almost any type of entertainment. Lots of new venues picked up the name and it's spread to unrelated functions.

Also, if i keep listening to you, i might learn the Cyrilic letters and the proper pronunciation of Russian. Thank you so much and keep up the good work. I think that Vladivostok is a wonderful fusion of all the cultures that surround it, but it was wonderful to see your eyes on the ground approach and see the cultural people and little byways and things and the discussion of the political climate which a student would have concerns about as it is also part of the future. And i liked the theme music on this presentation.
