This includes my pet hate arguement "All of us are concerned by these issues".... the problem is people who make these statements do NOTHING about that concern. They drive the same, eat the same, travel the same, work the same, buy the same, vote the same.... so all that concern means fuck all if its not reflected in action.
It's like saying "we call care about animals"... I just like to eat them. Or "We all care about health" whilst smoking 50 cigerattes a day...

It's still shocking to me to see this level of intense, close-minded hostility directed at XR. I mean, just slowly enunciate the words "extinction rebellion" and really think about what that means and why they chose that name. I admire their courage.

In 1982, Nasa/Sandia Labs published their Magma Energy Project report - demonstrating the feasibility of high temperature geothermal, and yet the assumption of 'Limits to Growth' persists, and is presumed by the entire environmental movement, the general public, government, banks, industry to be an absolute fact.
It may have a Malthusian and Marxist appeal; but Thomas Malthus mathematical logic was proven wrong by history. People invented trains, tractors, fertilizers and refrigerators - multiplying food resources far ahead of population growth. Resources are not a fixed and finite quantity - but in fact, are a function of the energy available to develop them, and Earth is a big ball of molten rock!
Given boundless clean energy from Magma - we can meet human energy needs carbon free forever, plus have surplus energy to desalinate, irrigate, recycle and capture carbon. That so, there are no bottlenecks in the foreseeable future.
The irony is in how many times, as a Citizen, I have explained this to Extinction Rebellion, and how little it has changed their behaviours!

I consider this event a success already in that Etienne's words about the crisis have been broadcast, regardless of what other b****cks is said. Because national and global supply chains are going to collapse, insurance, the foundation of private property value, investment and lending is going to collapse (GFC on steroids), how long can the municipality survive on the resources within its territory only? How does the community provide food, water, energy, housing, clothing and the tools to produce them all without recourse to a national supply chain?
Questions relevant to the consequences of climate change validate its reality and confront people with the reality dealing with the world as it is becoming and will continue to change for the foreseeable future. By reasoning in terms of local sustenance, a community reasons how to step off the hydrocarbon pathway. It is both protest and action to do the very thing every humanity *must* do.
Climate change is your house, school, city washed into the sea or burnt to the ground, and rendered worthless, it's your last cup of coffee, bar of chocolate, banana, fish, bowl of rice or corn and much else, because all of these things are struggling and are passing away, now slowly but with increasing ferocity. Confront people with losses they can reason about..

Parleying this level of mendacity takes particular care, but in one sense, their response is entirely predictable. My question would be, can they be thwarted or made to look absurd in advance?
